My estimation is that Cyclemeter app on iPhone is pretty close, when it comes to distance traveled and calories burnt. I have been using it for more than a quarter now. Its pretty useful.

Let me give you one example: 2 weeks back I went for a 200 km Brevet bike ride wherein I burnt over 6600 calories...I had to eat back a lot of these..otherwise I would have lost muscle and body fluids. I guess if you want to lose weight you should have some deficit in calories..even during maintenance one must have deficit…
