I usually judge by how much the level of exertion was and how much will be required. A 80k coffee ride can be very different to a 80k training ride, even the coffee ride can vary depending on who is riding. Sounds like you think you can handle it, so just ride.

Much cooler this month, good riding weather but an incident packed month including seeing a friend fall on a group ride after being hit by the draft of semi trailer passing to close, nearly ended up under its wheels. Got a 160+Km ride in last Friday with 2500metres of climbing with several 10% climbs. 27hrs, 672Km and…

That sounds like a great holiday, would love to ride there.

Not any more, I used to use hr zones but I now have a power meter on the bike so the hr does what it wants.

Good stuff, you are heading in the right direction. Ultimately you just need to push yourself a little bit at a time to see improvements, however if you use the zones and have a bit of structure to your exercise you will see faster improvement.

Seeing you say you go over maxHR, all of your training is in the GREY zone. If you dont know your maxHR you cannot actually use zones as a training reference. 220-age gives me a maxHR of 162, ive just come back from a two hour ride where my averageHR was 153, so i spent 2 hours in the RED zone?

I had a bike fit done recently, the fitter said i wasnt using my glutes at all and gave me some exercises to do off the bike to 'activate' my glutes. What, if anything do people do on the bike to engage their glutes?

I didn't set the bar high this year as it was my first year back cycling. 600k a month and i should make that comfortably, 10,000k is too far away. 300 hrs so far so ill try for 365 hrs.
