I'm almost 50 yo and remember growing up hearing the Miss America measurement goals were an hour glass of bust x, minus 10 for the waist, and x again for the hips. Most of the times however hips were x+1.

33/33/33 What irks me is the whole percent thing. You want to meet basic minimums and not exceed maximums. Depending on your calorie intake and amount of exercise, protein should be calculated first as grams, not percentage. Then you need to meet a minimum of fat. After that you can divvy up the rest as your choice of…

I was the first one to finish the study. It won't be published for another couple of years. The recruiting website is: https://optin.northwestern.edu/ What was submitted for clinical trials is:…

In the past 7 months about 1/10th of what I used to. But even still it is so inconsistent. When I drank before it would usually be 3-5 drinks sometimes a few days in a row or there might be weeks in between drinks and the occasional more at a big party. The biggest change has been only having one drink instead of a few.…

I believe the only time I haven't weighed myself daily for over 10 years was when I knew I was gaining weight and didn't care. Like many have said, you can't think about the day to day, you want to look at the trend. I just spent 6 months in a diet study where I reported my weight daily. What was interesting was losing a…

Both of these times I was NOT TRYING to get DRUNK. I drank heavily because I was trying to simply enjoy a little buzz with no effect what-so-ever. As many have suggested, if I wanted to get DRUNK, I'd try shots of Tequila. Interesting thought about menopause although not the case yet. However, I can say some times of the…

I have never said that my goal in drinking is to get drunk. There are the rare occasions that might be my goal. We all learn from our mistakes. I'm not a yo-yo dieter. I have successfully lost weight and kept it off. I have also lost weight in my younger days the wrong way. I have changed my eating and drinking lifestyle…

Oh yeah. That's all flavor. If I drank enough to get drunk, I'd be 10 pounds heavier by morning. Luckily when I was on vacation a couple weeks ago I drank guilt free because I kayaked for 2 hours first and had walked over 35 miles during the week. I do think half the drunk from Mai Tais is the sugar buzz.

Arggg, I'm upset with that study. I study studies and I also am a participant in many clinical trials. The problem is a low fat diet! It's also a very low calorie diet. Just because you got fat or your genetics are against you doesn't mean you are destine to failure. Eat fat and eliminate refined carbs and high glycemic…

I lost 54 pounds and kept most of it off for years. Then one cookie or candy too many and it's the slippery slope for me. Granted, I made lifestyle changes and don't stuff myself until I can't move and I don't eat much cereal, bread or starch anymore. But the clincher was getting sick and bed ridden for 6 months. I reached…

My book is on successful and UNSUCCESSFUL eating. It is diary intended to make you think about how and why you eat. It's about choices.

I read a couple studies about this. Protein causes growth, whether it's muscle or cancer. If you have cancer and eat protein it will grow more. The same sort of thing with growth hormones. Taller people get more cancer than shorter people.

You were not insulting. I will say I never get hangovers. In the past if I had to wake up earlier than usual, I'd drink hard alcohol the night before because I wake up 6 hours later full of energy. I'm not a morning person. I'd drink wine for the opposite reason, to fall asleep. 60 Minutes recently had a segment on over 90…

Yes, I would think after not drinking hardly at all for 7 months that I would be able to handle less. Before the diet the wine would have had me slurring my speech and asleep before the bottle was gone. And I don't think drinking less than once per month constitutes a problem. I've always been an inconsistent drinker -…

The algorithm to calculate your calories is based on thousands (if not millions) of individuals varying greatly. Since you are just starting, don't restrict any calories until you know what you've been consuming. Just spend at least 3 days eating like you always have but weighing and recording the food to determine your…

That's not completely true, your body can tell time - it's called circadian rhythm. Northwestern Hospital University (and others) has been doing lots of clinical trials on sleep, obesity and circadian rhythms. I've been a Guinea pig in a several of them. Unfortunately, the most recent study that hit the news…

I think the biggest difference between eating early verses late has more to do with activity. Yes, I tend to hoard my calories for night too. But if I eat too many during the day, I have a better chance of burning them before bed than if I exceed my calories late in the day. I always seem to lose weight the day after an…

Congrats! It's so mentally tough going back and forth around the 200 mark. On May 11, I dropped down to 197 for a day, partly because I got food poisoning. For the past month I've been bouncing above and below. I'm on 3 days below 200 while eating over my daily calories, so I think I'm safe to say I'm under 200. Keep it…

Congrats! It sounds like you are doing great. It does depend on how much you have to lose. Also, don't expect it to stay this easy. Your body is rewarding you for eating better. Keep up the good work and make sure you get enough protein so that you don't lose muscle.
-
Sorry, I hadn't read that you can't do dairy. That makes things harder.

You look great! More importantly, I glad you feel fantastic! I must admit, I'm judgmental about some individual's appearances. Not all the time but when I see pain. For example, I cringe every time I see the one anorexic person in the locker room at my gym. I can't stop visualizing her frail toothpick bones breaking if…

What advice would I give others? Ask for help to keep you in check because yes it is hardest to follow our own advice. My coping strategy is if I'm going to binge, it's going to be on something nutrient dense and low calorie. If I'm going to splurge on calorie dense and nutrient poor food, I control the portions. My advice…

Don't drink them. If you want to feel full longer EAT protein. If you're going for the convenience of getting out of the house quick in the morning and still getting your breakfast, then make a Greek yogurt smoothie the night before and freeze it. Then spend time digging and eating it with a spoon while wearing arm weights…

It's the whole lifestyle change (over a decade now). Yes, I have issues with food and decades of literally stuffing myself. Now I can splurge on some unhealthy foods but when I want to stuff myself I do it with healthy foods. I'm really quite proud of myself, especially asking for help. Had I not posted last night, I…

Great news, I only gained .8 pounds AND I woke up HUNGRY. Normally after eating purchased regular crust pizza I'm at least 4 pounds heavier the next day. Of course we all know that's not true weight gain but no other foods up the scale more than pizza for me - not even salty margaritas and chips. I think the big difference…

OP, I feel really bad for you. I've only read the first 2 pages and will get back to read the rest later. My two bits of advice: 1) Look for specialists (WLS Diatitians) in other states that will Skype your appointments working with your doctor. 2) Don't take advice from people on a diet forum who haven't gone through…

I went to a training and deep dish and desserts was all they had. I normally make my own healthy pizza. I also had two cookies. I'm sliding down the slippery slope. It started with my hubby's bday cake on vacation. Cake every day for a week was fine because I was swimming, walking and kayaking like crazy. I come back home…

Earlier this evening I went for a bike ride after eating my bowl of ice cream 3 hours earlier than usual. Then I had air popped popcorn. Man, I just can't stop today. Slipping up and having deep dish pizza for lunch has really caused a relapse. I swear I haven't had deep dish in over a decade. OK, a couple minutes of…

I don't log or count my waters, so it's just a sign that I'm drinking enough water. I used to be addicted to pop and had to switch and force myself to drink water, it makes me proud to be successful. There are days that I'm bad and it's practically orange.
