  • You're surely kidding? Cornmeal and animal byproducts are appropriate? SMH
  • Well that's good to hear! A few months of less nutritious food won't harm her anyways. It's just for long term health (and vet costs) a nutritionally dense food will help so much. It will add life to her years and years to her life! They don't live long enough anyways :)
  • Oh and a lot of rescues come in with the "crap" food because they get food donated to them by those companies or the vet will donate the food. I think part of it is in hopes that you keep feeding the pet their food and help their profits. It does help keep rescue costs down quite a bit as well.
  • My .02, buy a small (4 lb bag if you can) bag of one of the more nutritious foods. Mix that in little by little and see how she likes it. If she doesn't pick around it, keep mixing the Purina and then switch to that food. And if the puppy doesn't take to it, either donate that food to a rescue/shelter or keep using it and…
  • http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/ Purina Puppy Chow is a 1-Star food, aka the lowest: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/purina-puppy-chow/ At least try and bump it up to a 3 or a 4.
  • I'm going to be harsh, but if you can't afford anything better than Purina Puppy Chow than you shouldn't have a dog. It is completely processed and full of junk (aka fillers). Without even looking at the label, I'm going to guess that the #1 ingredient is a byproduct. In the long run, feeding your puppy a good food will…
  • Honestly, maybe you should just give up eating altogether? Psych. Eat what YOU want, moderation is key. Eat what you love. Pasta is yummy.
  • My regular sneakers and I swear by SmartWool PhD running socks. I don't use anything for traction, even though I've lived in some seriously snowy areas and run through blizzards. Be a bada$$ it's more fun.
  • If you like it, drink it but the cost for me is not worth it. If I can run marathons and train for them without it, it's not a necessity. HEED is a fraction of the cost and has everything you need IMHO.
  • I only drink cheap beer if it's free after a race. Otherwise it's Sam Adams, Blue Moon, Smithwick's... 55 calories beers are pretty gross. Drink "real" beer.
  • I work full-time and have a desk job, and am training for a marathon. I run in the morning or in the evening depending on commitment and whether I can get up at 5:30 or need a bit more sleep.
  • None of us know what whether he doped or not. I also know that, no matter what the cost, I would not let anyone take my titles away from me if I was earned them honestly. You worked your *kitten* off for decades only to give them the upper hand in the end, admit guilt by association when you drop out. I've never been a fan…
  • Colour-wise it's fine, it looks silver to me. But yeah, keep in mind that it's short and you're going to be sitting in it. I personally don't like the dress, there are so many more lively, fun wedding dresses out there!
  • IMHO, you don't need the 15 if your goal is to finish and this is your first one. I would either substitute the second 13 miler or the 15 miler for a 10 miler. And just to clarify (from a running coach's perspective), the point on your coach running a 2:15 full is moot. It doesn't mean anything in regards to the plan he…
  • Please don't pass that along as universal advice. It only works for so long and it's certainly not the healthy way to go about it (especially if you're a healthy weight). If I never ate an exercise calories back, as an endurance runner I would ALWAYS be negative on long run days and be starving my metabolism…
  • Are you prepared to be low-carb for life? Because that weight and plateau is more likely to come back than not.
  • 5'3, currently 126. Want to get back down to 118, but really I just want to be strong, fast and get some more muscle definition!
  • There is no magic pill and if there was, Shakeology certainly wouldn't be it. It's all about the balance, if you eat a healthy and balanced diet you will meet all your macros and get all the vitamins Shakeology allegedly has at a fraction of the cost. You're better off spending your money on real food, a gym membership or…
  • Are you talking about a pedorthist? Not the same thing as an orthopedist. I used to go to a running store that had one. Not a doctor, just a certified footwear specialist (so to speak). She was very helpful however.
  • Exactly my thought. My lightest are 4.8 and my heavy ones are 8.6, ounces - not pounds. And I think by switching shoes, you're just avoiding the issue at hand. You need to work on form and stride. I also think you need to be checked out by an ortho or sports med doctor.
  • PR = Personal Record, often equated with PB, which is Personal Best. I distinguish PR as an official race time and PB as something you do in training. But I don't pay any mind to PBs myself. The average (as you can see) varies greatly, depending on weight, experience, training and a slight bit of genetics/natural ability.
  • I thought the question was PR...maybe not. My first (post-injury/high school x-c days) 5K was 29:45 in April 2010. In August 2010, I was down to 24.05. I've raced quite a few 5Ks since then and have only knocked 58 seconds off. Current PR is 23.03 and as I stated before, looking to go 21.xx by year's end. Once my marathon…
  • 23.03, looking to get a 21.xx before the year is up. My focus is marathon training, but usually the shorter distance PRs come along for the ride:heart:
  • This is just too much. As someone who works in research in the emergency medicine department at a well-respected Ivy League university, I am completely in awe of what just happened. On the other hand, I can go tell my boss that my work is meaningless and take the rest of the week off (with pay, of course?)
  • Everything. What stops me? Nothing.
  • I make mine in a similar fashion. Add 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and take out the peanut butter and banana. I use agave nectar as a syrup, a tiny bit goes a long way!
  • She's 3. There is no need to use that kind of verbage. The word fat is just not a word a 3 year old, or any child for that matter, needs to hear. Replace fat with unhealthy and explain why she wants to be healthy - at a 3 year old's level, not an adult level.
  • I'm far behind my goal, due to aforementioned injuries I was trying to avoid. 3 weeks off, 3 months of reduced load. Back in a (mostly) good position, but not sure I can reach my goal smartly as my body does it's best work on ~40 miles a week.
  • And for what it's worth, I burned 1630 calories running 20 miles over this weekend (and that includes a 20 minute CD walk).
