  • If I could offer some advice, it would be don't just focus on the cardio machines. Strength training is so important. Head into the weights section of the gym and start a workout. Even if you aren't comfortable yet doing a lifting routine, start on the circuits (there will be a number of machines set up in a circuit that…
  • Am so impressed. You rock! Congratulations!!!
  • I know i'm repeating what others said, but please see a dietician, not a nutritionist. You need no formal education to say you are a nutritionist. I thought it was funny the other day that I received an email to become a "Personal Nutritionist", through an online course, for only $39. Imagine that anyone can do such a…
  • Same here. Have to have primarily protein at breakfast, or i'm starving an hour later.
  • What about people on shift work, should they not eat at night, when they are awake and working? Sorry, I really don't believe that time of day matters for eating. As long as you are eating at a deficit, it doesn't matter if it's day or night. If you could link to the recent research you mentioned, that would be great.
  • When I first started lifting, I gained the first week and then STS for 6 weeks. After that the losses started again. It's normal for losses to stall after starting a lifting program. Keep in your deficit and keep lifting, the scale will start to move again.
  • Start with your food first. Start counting your calories, and weigh everything. If energy is a problem, start with something easy, like walking, and just do what you can. Your body has gone through a lot, so don't push yourself too hard too fast. Good luck!
  • Yes. I eat back about half. I look at it this way, i'm given 1200 cals a day. 1200 is the minimum recommended for women to eat, for your body to function. If i'm burning any of that 1200 my body isn't getting what it needs to fuel my workouts (I strength train for 90 mins, 3 times a week, plus cardio (run/walk) alternate…
  • Here's one of my days. Not exactly 1200 because I eat back some exercise calories every day. It's copied from the food journal, so you're getting the macro #s as well. Breakfast Calories Carbs Fat Protein Sodium Sugar Laughing Cow (Canada) - Light Wedge, 2 portions 33g 50 2 3 4 290 1 Generic - Eggs, 2 egg 140 0 10 12 140 0…
  • My 2 cents :) First, you need to separate the eating and gym time. You don't have to go to the gym to lose weight. Sure it's great to get that time there (I love it as well), but you can't use that as the excuse to not eat well. Work on your eating habits. Eat at a deficit, you WILL lose weight (just make sure you are…
  • I'm 5'2, started at 224 lbs. down 66 at this point, with a goal of 137. Weigh all your food, measure liquids only Take baby steps- work on improving one thing at a time so you don't get frustrated/overwhelmed Realize there is no magic to losing weight. Eat at a deficit and the losses will happen. Don't give up after a bad…
  • @Itsonlymeagain But are you weighing everything to make sure you are only eating 1400 calories a day? If not, you are likely over-estimating what you are eating. Pasta, rice, etc are very small portions. Its ridiculous when I weigh out a very small portion, and the amount of calories it uses up from my day. Seriously until…
  • I eat pretty much the same as always, just less of it. I guess the one thing i've replaced, is for sandwiches, instead of whole-wheat or multi-grain bread, I buy protein bread. If i'm going to eat bread, i'd rather get the 17-18g protein that comes in the protein version.
  • Former Newfie, living in Southern ON the past decade and a half.
  • I have 3 kids and work full time as well. The activities I fit in are: Gym at night after the kids go to bed Walk or bike ride with the kids in the evening Gym over my lunch break when my work schedule fits Treadmill for the days I can't get a walk or run in outside Bench and Plates in the garage for when I can't get to…
  • Awesome, you look great.
  • Meat is a great protein source. As long as you weigh it, and track the calories for it, and it fits into your calorie counts, it's perfectly fine to eat every day.
  • Awesome!!! Can't wait to see those pics.
  • I buy both. I buy the treats they love, but also fruits and they know they are expected to eat healthy snacks and meals, in with their treats. Hubby is a different matter. He eats only junky food for snacks. If I don't buy it, he'll buy it himself, so there's always junk food in the house. That's fine though, he's an adult…
  • 5'2, 40 years old. 3 kids. SW 224, CW 159.6, GW 137. Down 64.4 lbs. I strength train 3 times a week, and alternate cardio between those days.
  • Start training yourself with the barbell. If you start doing it with the smith machine, when you do switch to barbell (and eventually you will likely want to), you'll see a big difference in what you can actually lift.
  • One of the first things to go on me during my weight loss was my butt. I've been strength training (squats, deadlifts, etc) for about 8 months, and today I had a comment that my butt was really "coming along" lol. It's still not where I want it to be, but as someone else said above, it's a process, it won't happen…
  • You are eating more than you think. Weigh your food, and enter the grams. You are going to be very surprised at the calories you are actually eating. For instance, for breakfast you entered 6 medium strawberries. What's a medium? That could be someone else's large. That is too subjective. Weigh it out instead, seriously…
  • I haven't had any FB friends try to get me to buy their crap, but I've had MFP folks try to friend me. I always read the profiles of those that send me friend requests, and if it says anything about promoting any magic program/pill/diet, the request automatically gets rejected by me. You might be the nicest person in the…
  • It's one day. I'd rather eat the food that my family lovingly prepared, than not. You can make up for those calories over the coming weeks. It's not the end of the world.
  • You just have to make time. I go to the gym over my lunch break (if my work schedule isn't too crammed), and I go at night after I get my 3 kids to bed. Sure this makes for a late night for me, I often don't get home until after midnight, but I'd rather get my workouts in, than not.
  • Don't cheat. Incorporate the food you love into your calorie allotment. So if you want wings, plan for a meal of wings once a week. Cut down your calories on a couple days, and save them for your wing meal. Eating food you love isn't cheating. I hate the word cheating to be honest, because it makes food seem bad. Food…
  • A bunch of things. Even though I had my 3rd child months before, people were asking me if I was pregnant again. I wouldn't willingly get in any pictures, I hated the way I looked and felt. I realized I was tired of being the fat mom. So no one specific thing, just got tired of it all and knew it was time to make some…
  • Obviously he has some issues, that do not reflect on you at all. You have the right attitude, lose the weight for yourself. Ignore his negative, hurtful comments (I know easier said at times), keep your weight loss journey to yourself, don't discuss with him. When you reach your goal, you can be proud that you did it on…
