Brand is less important than what works. I have told folks jokingly..."I run in Asics, love them...until they make drastic changes I will buy them til I die. However, if Chuck Taylor's work for you...that is what you need to wear." It is whatever works and that is the most important thing.

Glad you are here. HOpe this helps you get back on track. Feel free to friend me.

queen-do not be self conscious running. Just do it. There are people of all shapes and sizes running. Most runners will welcome new runners. The people in their cars stuffing their faces with donuts are the one's who maybe saying something...what the heck do they know. You are working at becoming an athlete and…

A sub hour 10k is very feasible if you pace right. You are doing 23 minute 5K's and that means you have the cardio to run very fast. My PR is 24 minutes for a 5K and I have a 50 minute 10K. Start easier, slowly dial up the speed and and check how you feel at 4 miles then launch from there. We will want a report.

10K that is a big accomplishment. Good on ya!!! 1.) At the start look around...10k is where people start getting more serious. 5K almost anybody can do a 5K. A 10K is a line of demarcation. Look around...you have kicked it up a notch. You are a more serious runner. 2.) At the start talk to a stranger and wish them good…

It took me two weeks for the scales to move 2 pounds. I was getting extremely discouraged. We have three things we need to look at. 1.) the scales-they don't lie 2.) how we feel-when everything else ain't working...sometimes I got to feel my way through it. Do you feel better now? do you have more energy and most days do…

Sounds like Runner's knee. Runner's World and other sights will have that. Be patient with yourself. question is it soreness or pain. Soreness is muscles being used. Pain is serious. Get fitted for a pair of shoes. When you go to the running store find a person who has been there awhile. Don't get the 18 year old kid.

Glad you are here. Be gentle with yourself and don't 'should' on yourself.

I will have a Date and 6 to 10 almonds natural or tamarind flavored. I eat baby carrots. I usually eat 20 as a snack (a couple of books recommended that number) and it takes me so long to eat them that I am tired of eating.

First half, I wish I was you. The first half is awesome. I have done 10 marys and 25 1/2's. I eat a Clif Bar, water, and gatorade/powerade. I choose clif because it is made of rice, easier digestion. Diet Coke. :frown: My concern about your Diet Coke is that is a pretty useless hydrator. I used to be a Diet Coke fiend…

I got back on track on Tuesday. I reminded myself that it is not what I have eaten, but what I eat now that is most important. For me, I know I am going to have bad days when I use food as my coping mechanism but my goal is not to get too high or too low. If I have a bad couple of days...before I started that was a bad…

I drink green tea in the afternoon. I drink it unsweetened, but I grew up in a house that did not put sugar in tea. Sugar in everything else, but not tea. it has some anti oxidants and gives me a sense of mellowness. I channel my inner Japanese Tea ceremony. :)

That lecture is incredible. Really changed my view on things. I showed my wife how much sugar is in one of my kids sodas. Incredible. We no longer drink fruit drinks, except OJ when someone is sick and fighting a cold. The whole changing of the metabolism is scary. I think even the sugar in fruit is a problem, but it is…

Fruit is sugar, but it has the added benefit of fiber and other nutrituion. The good thing about the fiber provides a way for the body to use the sugar. I was talking with my nutrituionist the other day and she did not seem concerned with me eating 3 to 4 fruits a day which shoots my sugars way over the limit. I justify it…

First few days are hard, because the crutch that makes us feel better is gone. I am craving some empty carbs, give me some potato chips. However, remember what you will feel like afterwards...more stressed and more fatigued. That is the key to keep the eye on the prize. It sucks at times, but ultimately we begin to feel…
-
Keep your eyes on the prize...the prize is above the Milanos, so keeping your eyes on the prize keeps them off the milanos. :) Know yourself. Know when to be hard. Know when to be gentle. Be rigorously honest with yourself. Glad you are here.

Do I know those moments of being lonely and stressed? Sorry that you hit the Domino's, it is not worth bragging about because the next morning feels so bad. Try to remember how you felt before you gained the weight. Try to remember what you felt before you ordered Domino's. Which feels worse the hangover or the compulsion…

A few mental points. 1.) If you want to get faster...you have to run faster. 2.) To run faster hurts 3.) Passing people at the end of a race...makes up for the pain. :) 4.) it is your exercise, your workout, your run...run it however you want and if people complain how you do your workout...there is a middle finger. But if…

Absolutely right. You probably do need to lose the weight for your own health emotionally, physically and spiritually. But, you can't do it for him. This is all about you and it is alright to be selfish about it. he is not invested in you as you are, but who he wants you to be. You can't change him, but you can have your…

by pass the podiatrist and just go to a running store. Look for one with knowledgeable sales staff, meaning don't go to the pimply faced 16 year old. Read some reviews of shoes at Runner's world so you know the jargon. Pronate, Motion Control, Support, etc. Then get a pair of shoes that work for you, regardless of brand. I…

It is not any more unhealthy than any other form of exercise. Get the right shoes and keep easing our way into the program...it works. If you like it, then do it.

I have p90x. The program does not work for me, because I want to train for marathons. I could not do both. The nutrition guide is just as important if not more than the workouts. Tony is a great motivator, but he is a vegeterian and working towards Veganism, so it is part of the nutrition guide. Cutting carbs, eating…
