Yep, it's the simple law of energy balance - if your calories burned are greater than your calories consumed, you will lose weight. Tracking your calories honestly, and taking note of how your consumption affects your weight will become second nature after a while. Check out the success stories section to see people that…

My first question would be 'how much are you eating'. If you're getting in 2 hours per day and not eating back your exercise calories, it's possible that your body is telling you that you're doing too much. Also, I'd suggest having some protein and low GI food (like a peanut butter sandwich on wholewheat) 1-2 hours before…

Starvation diets are never the answer. Don't give into the temptation to do it the unhealthy way - sounds like you're doing just fine to me.

Also, losing your fat is going to be 80% diet and 20% exercise. If it's not coming off as quickly as you like, maybe have a look at your calorie intake and see if there's any room for adjustment there?

My first was Bon Jovi in 1995, when I was 16 or 17. Was a very cool concert, although I didn't drink at that point so it was very restrained :) Last band I saw was 30 Seconds to Mars I think - pretty good, although my favourite live show was Metallica, followed closely by Rammstein and U2 (both of whom put on spectacular…

Agreed with Hroush - it's far better to plan a day where you have a higher calorie meal. Still log it in MFP as per usual, but don't be too concerned if you go a little over your calorie allowance. A full cheat day can undo all the good work that you do for the rest of the week. The way I look at this, is that it's a…

The MFP calories are usually over - the gym machines are most likely going to actually be monitoring your heart rate, and so will give you a more accurate estimation of calories burned.

It's absorbed slower when you use milk, but to be honest, unless you're getting to fitness model / bodybuilder levels, the difference is negligible enough for it to not really matter. Just use what tastes better to you.

Machine Head, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Pantera, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, The Haunted, Arch Enemy - all of those get the legs pumping :)

It's not really worth it - your calories burnt are an estimate, and taking away the 50 or 100 calories that you would have normally burnt during that time isn't really worthwhile. If you are concerned about it, eat back only half of your exercise calories to ensure that you're catering for any overestimations.

Nope - I think that the concept that the movement of stars millions of light years away can somehow compartmentalize you into one of 12 neat little boxes is completely ridiculous. People read into it what they want to and will say "yes, that's exactly how I am!", ignoring the fact that the descriptions are incredible…

Great, thanks very much

The problem with the article linked to is that it comes across as being written as an attempt at fear-mongering and contains a whole lot of unsubstantiated claims with no citations to any sort of scientific studies that back up the claims that are made. While there may be some truth in the claims that he makes, the overall…

Hey all, I just started on SL 5x5 today, and really enjoyed that first workout. However, I'm not confident that my squatting form is that good. Is there any chance that I could post a video when I next go to gym and people could give me some pointers on what I could do to improve my form? Thanks Steven

That works out to less than a pound a week, so very achievable, yes. I'd start with setting a goal weight loss of 1 lb a week, and drop it to 1/2 a pound a week when you get closer to your goal and taking that last bit off becomes more difficult. Good luck!

I agree, it 's completely today with your training program and your diet. Anyone, male or female, is not going to get big and bulky just by doing circuit training with light weight, or doing 50reps with 2lb dumbbells. However, due to the increased levels of testosterone, it is easier for men to build muscle though. In…

There are a couple more episodes on there - also worth watching as well

Nope, not at all. MFP has a very conservative protein intake by default (15% of calories consumed)
-
Just a pair of dumbbells and a stationary bike. Joining the gym and moving onto barbells next week however.

Sounds like another very low calorie diet (probably 5-700 calories per day) and not a healthy way to eat.

From my perspective, it's about being the best person that YOU can be. It's not about comparing yourself to a friend, or a colleague or a movie star. Most of us are never going to be professional athletes, and we shouldn't compare ourselves to them - compare yourself to how you were a week or a month or a year ago, and…

One thing that I find helps is to try to stick to less refined food - so instead of white bread, white sugar etc, go for things like wholewheat bread, fibrous vegetables and lean protein. It'll avoid a rush of insulin release, and the associated crash, and should release energy on a slower but more stable basis over the…

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about the fructose from fruit. As long as you watch your refined sugar intake, a bit of fructose isn't going to kill you.

I'd suggest that you maybe start doing some proper free weight training rather than circuit training. Circuit training doesn't put enough strain on your muscles to cause micro-tearing which will make your muscles build up between workouts. See if you can find a program that will give you reps in the 1-5 rep range for…

Welcome to MFP! You'll find advocates for both sides of the argument of eating late at night on here, but there are no significant studies which show that eating at night has any positive or negative effect on your weight loss when you're controlling your calorie intake. This is a hugely supportive community though, so…

I'm listening to Artelligent by Headroom at the moment - some pretty awesome psytrance, and really gets the legs pumping

Every 10 lbs or so is probably a good guideline. Before that, the 50 or 60 calorie difference a day is going to make so little of a difference that it's really not something you should stress about.

In general, most of these abs machines offer negligible benefits, and any improvements over doing normal crunches will be minimal at best.
