Breathing during forms in wushu is really important and I get yelled at for it all the time. It's not necessarily rhythmic but is timed with steps in the forms and places that you get more rest. Also when doing movements that require turning quickly with your head off center, you're not supposed to carry your breath in…

I got another 50 min semi-private lesson after a group class last night and learned more of the straight sword. I'm going to a different wushu class tomorrow where the class is very small (usually the same 3-4 people) and one guy learns tai chi while the rest of us learn wushu. I'm going to bring my mom so she can try tai…

I've tried all sorts of massage and acupuncture. While they do help, nothing helps as much as vacation lol. At the very worst of my stress I break out into hives. Like @valsgoals I keep things in too frequently and maintain a very calm outside. Funny enough - what gets me more motivated to get rid of it is that it impedes…

last night I joined the kids group class (in order to let my teacher go home earlier) but he insisted i stay afterwards to learn more of my new form, so I ended up having a 40 minute private lesson after class. I can already tell that I'm going to love straightsword the best of all the weapon forms so far.

One thing I haven't tried is parkour. (There's an all parkour studio that I'm considering checking out at the end of the month.) Has anyone else tried and liked it?

tonight was a handstands and acrobatics classes night for me. I held a handstand for 12 seconds (a very long time for me! :D ) and in acrobatics we are doing back tuck flips. it was my first time being hooked up to a belt and rope and trying the back tuck flip from the ground. i was really scared, but i'm glad i stuck it…

I feel like even when I'm not stressed, my body can so easily snap back into these patterns. It almost feels like muscle memory. I've tried meditation too. Breathing exercises actually help a little - sometimes it even cracks my sternum. My chest cavity feels sore afterwards! I've never been on anxiety meds and I…

i went for a 2hr class yesterday - it was a pretty full class and i felt very challenged to keep up with the teenagers. i've been burning the candle at both ends for the last 2 months so i've been feeling pretty run down in general, but feels really good after class is over!

good luck @dory_42 !!

I went to class for the first time in almost 2 weeks. Had been moving and painting and working - was really tired but went anyway and ended up getting an hour extra private lesson after class. Feeling sore this morning!

I wish I had started when I was younger. For wushu I think the flexibility and jumping really is optimal for people to start in their youth, peaking I think in the 20's - kind of like gymnastics. I don't think however, that it's too late to learn - if it's just to learn something new and keep fit and have fun. I do find…

I have a really hard time motivating on my own at home, so I go to classes. I take a conditioning class (kind of like circuit training), flexibility, and acrobatics. If I didn't take classes and left it to myself to work on things at home I think I would epically fail.

the wushu studio i go to i researched. it's quite a drive from where i am. when i visited i was really impressed by the students there. the other one i tried at my old location was all about proximity. this one too - proximity from my house. it was very very different than my wushu studio and even the kung fu i tried in…

omg i hate the taste of them. i try to drink them a couple times a week though, but not every day for me. i'm such a picky eater!

on sunday I did a 2 hr class with a bunch of kids. it was hard and fun. my legs are so sore today. My first 3 forms are getting a lot better and more comfortable. But as a beginner - what I wish I looked like vs what i actually do is totally different lol! I also started on a poster design for my coach for trade of extra…

our warmup is almost the same each time. 1. jog light 10 laps around the room 2. conditioning warmup across the floor: - dynamic stretch low lunges (with elbows on floor) across the floor one way, same stretch lunges with added hamstring stretch on the way back across the floor - high lunges + jump in place across the…

@luizH lol at zumba!! :D I hope that you make it to karate kicking grandma. Just FYI - my mom is 75 and she stopped tae kwon do lessons 2 years ago because her knees hurt - but was kicking up until then!

yea another wushu person! :))))

congratulations!

awesome! I stopped here just to check in on how you did!

@vals maybe they are thinking - don't mess with that lady! :D :D

these are awesome ideas. i know in management workshops they call that positive-negative-positive criticism for those you're managing "the sandwich." lol. i also agree that learning comes in layers of detail - (kind of like chipping away at a sculpture). i remember as a kid too - that seeing other kids do things in a dance…

when in doubt - epsom salt baths lol

I had a private lesson last night that was awesome. I did offer however to come to the kids class before mine because I’m the only person in this class on thurs nights. Last year’s me would never have offered this bc I hate the looks the parents give me but this years me says who cares?I think it’s polite bc then coach can…
