Mine does the same, however I ignore those "earned" back outside of my work-out period. So for example, during 30 minutes on the elliptical I will burn like 350 calories, which I log in MFP. The additional 500 or so that FitBit gives me, I don't eat those back - i only eat back the 350 .... so far it's been working for me…

I have been noticing this adjustment from Fitbit too, I don't log my food over there in Fitbit, and don't see the option to change it from Sedentary, etc ....I simply ignore the extra calories it gives me and only count the ones added in MFP for my exercise ...
-
Wow! Outstanding ! Congrats!
-
I made the mistake of doing both the first day, so I am going to try ONLY logging my exercise in MFP - supposedly by entering the start time it will not double count. I am personally a little weary about the "Calorie Adjustment", but I am gonna try it for a while and see if I still progress as I have previously...

Got my Charge on Friday!

Congrats on starting your journey and good luck! It works if you stick to it and are honest with yourself!
-
Welcome ! Best of luck in your journey. I just started about 100 days ago and have lost 31 lbs so far - feeling very motivated and happy with my progress so far. I log EVERY day!
-
Well done! Keep up the great work! :)

I guess from my perspective, I have done several "tests" whereas I wear my HRM while doing work out in the garage or yard, etc on the weekends. When I am out there working my HR is typically averaging around 120-125 BPM, which is clearly decent calorie burning mode. I do take 'credit' for this, however I also deduct 30-40%…

I suspect ANY food that your prepare yourself will be better than the packaged stuff ... start simple, weigh everything... and eat a bit more calories ...
-
Genius, I think to summarize. 1) Be patient, a day here or a week there doesn't matter, it's the long term that does 2) Follow the guidelines, if it tells you based on your real activity and your goals you need XX calories, then try to hit that goal as often as you can 3) If possible, try to make your own food so you can…
-
Another thing you might consider Genius.... All those packaged meals likely have a very high sodium content. I don't know about others, but for me high sodium = lots of water retention (not to mention the other bad things it does) ... just something to consider about those easy to eat type meals ....
-
btw Genius , how are you handling your daily exercise? Did you mark yourself as "Sedentary" or "Active" or what ? For me, I am marked as "Sedentary" and then I earn back the calories I burned working out, so even though my daily goal is 1720, I really eat like 2200 per day and still hit my NET calorie goal....
-
Genius, I can just tell you from my personal experience that when I ate that little each day it simply didn't work long term. Everyone is different for sure, however I can say (thankfully) that this time I have followed MFP recommendations (my daily goal is 1720 which equals 2 lbs per week) and it's been working, and…
-
Outstanding! Looking amazing!
-
When I first started I used the MFP estimates for calories burned during work outs, however I found that using a HRM was much more accurate and more representative of my body and what I actually burned. But just find what works for you. The good thing about this 'program' is that it founded in facts ... if you are honest…

I too have a desk job and I use "Sedentary" and then use a heart rate monitor while exercising to capture my calories burned. Net Calories are your recommended intake from food plus the calories you "earn back" from exercise. So by way of example, my daily deficit goal (as calculated by the site) is 1720 calories per day…
-
Yea you really want to get as close to that "Goal" number as possible.
-
I agree Lyndsey, I don't use the TDEE, I use the calculations on MFP to get to my goal ..and yes, I use a HRM monitor to determine calories burned, that seems to be the most accurate ...
-
Ok - but that assumes that when you do your TDEE calculation you don't select "Sedentary" - correct? That's what I do when I use a TDEE calculator even though I work out for a minimum of 30-40 minutes per day, 6 times per week. Then I eat back my 'burn'....
-
When a couple of you have said "if you are using a TDEE method, you don't eat back calories." Not sure I completely understand this ... so for example, if my TDEE is say 2800 and I don't work out at all, if I only consumed 1800 per day I would have a 1000 per day calorie deficit, right ? If however my TDEE was 2800 and…

I use a Polar HRM - I input my stats (height, weight, etc) and I maintain my heartrate @ 150-152 for the duration of my time on the elliptical (in the case of friday I think it was 40 minutes) .. I even compared the results to 2 or three different heart rate based calculators online and I have consistently been within…
-
I get it Waffle ..and your right - my overall TREND is losing, that's for sure ...but the first 5 weeks I was consistently losing 2-2.5 or more.... this is the first week since I started where I haven't seen the progress ...
-
So fivethreeone - A friend of mine told me the same thing as what you said (basically), however this site (and others I have looked at ) seem to indicate that I am pretty much right on target for my calorie intake daily. so for example Friday, I consumed 2,427 calories and then burned 647 calories via exercise. That meant…
-
Thanks SBox - we do measure everything and I use a Polar HRM to give me my calories burned ..I do however struggle with only weighing myself weekly .... I still tend to do it daily ..but I need to stop!
-
Thanks all for the encouragement and tips! I was just SOO happy when I saw that early big progress ...I don't want it to stop!
-
Thanks very much .. I should mention too - my numbers were NET calories. 6 days a week I 'earn' 500-700 calories back via my workouts ..and I eat that ... so when I say my average is ~1600 calories per day, that's NET .. I am actually eating at least 2200 calories per day in food ....
-
Thanks WBB -that's kinda what I was thinking too ..if I lose another 12 lbs this month, then maybe I need to increase my intake a bit .... I wanna do this right of course ... but I love that it's working ..
-
Thanks! But you don't think I am "Way off" - do you ? Some of my friends said I should be taking in ATLEAST 2800 calories a day regardless of working out .. which just seems high to me. I guess I am excited by the progress and don't want it to stop! I am primarily using the elliptical for exercise. Thanks
-
I should mention too - that today I "Re-updated" my profile with my new weight (after losing 12 lbs) and it now shows my daily goal at 1820 (versus the previously stated 1870) - so starting today I will reduce my the 50 calories ...
