I'm sorry, I'm a little confused as to what you mean. How does focusing on calories in/out have nothing to do with weight loss?
-
Thank you, everyone! I guess I needed a little dose of reality, I appreciate it! I'm not giving up, I feel very different this time around, maybe because I'm not being so psycho with "good foods" and "bad foods," but just eating whatever and making sure I'm under my calorie goal. I'll try to look at the bigger picture and…

Thank you...that makes sense, I guess I'm back here because when I lost quickly I wasn't doing it the right way.
-
I guess I'm just frustrated because I usually lose very quickly.

Since I know everyone is just on the edge of their seat waiting to hear... I went with the 8oz. pub steak, dry, and a side garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette. Cut up the steak and put it on the salad and it was SO good. Of course, now I still have like 500 calories to eat and I haven't exercised yet. LOL

Oy. After all of that, we're going somewhere else. With a less accommodating menu. :( It's all crap. Ugh. http://www.seadogbrewing.com/pdf/SeaDogMenufullweb.pdf

THat's not a bad idea at all. Meat and salad might be easiest to track. Thanks!
-
Oh I like the turkey club idea. That's the thing with salads, they can be tricky. I was hoping to be able to calculate the individual items and be fairly accurate. But it might be easier to just go with something else. Thanks!

LOL, my husband and I hate lobster. Actually we don't eat any seafood. People think we're crazy because we live here.

I have 1420 for the day, until I exercise, usually I'm around 1500. I only anticipate using about 400-500 before dinner, so I have a little bit of a buffer.

In terms of straight weight loss, no, eating brown rice isn't going to make you lose weight more than eating white rice would. If you're eating at a deficit, you will lose (barring any kind of medical issue obviously). However, as others have said, eating 1200 calories of Twinkies isn't going to make you feel great and…

From what I understand the HRM is not accurate for things that are not steady-state cardio.
-
I agree it's a bad term, I definitely don't like to think of it as "cheating" because I'm looking at this as a lifestyle choice. But it's easier to say than "eating-food-I-normally-wouldn't-eat-in-quantities-I-normally-don't-eat" day. LOL Oh I wasn't surprised at the 5 pound difference - maybe you read my post quickly, I…

Thank you SO much everyone!! There are so many great ideas here, I can't wait to try them. I should definitely have a nice variety of options with all of these.
-
I kind of cut the difference and put in 200. And I'm just going to eat a little bit back. I think it might be better to go the TDEE route, but I want to give the MFP way a few weeks to see how it goes. If it's not working for me, I'll switch to the TDEE method. I just find that it's so hard to calculate it. Thanks so much…
-
Thanks! I will do that. Edited to add: Oy! I just tried that and it said 286 calories!!

I couldn't find a generic "cardio" entry in the database...is there some other word I can put in? I'm having a hard time finding something to put in that will somewhat accurately calculate the calories I burned. I didn't want to use my heart rate monitor because I didn't think it would be an accurate calculation.

This post is 2 years old but I'm bumping it because I need to save it. I have been looking everywhere for a precise way to calculate a marinade I love and it's not just oil-based and not a paste, etc. So this is perfect. I calculated that 60% of my marinade made it on to the meat, and then did adjusted each ingredient to…

Hi! :) Have you had your levels checked recently? Sometimes losing weight can throw everything off. You don't want to eat 1290. That's the number of calories your body burns just to stay alive everyday. If you woke up, stayed in bed, stayed there all day and fell asleep without doing anything. Your daily activity (going to…

I definitely was not going to sit down at east 1660 calories at 8pm, partly because I didn't want to make myself sick and binging is not something I feel like doing, but also because I do understand that there is a window of error with any calculation and that no number is absolute.

The thing I most appreciate about your post was your tone....thank you for sharing your experience and for your input and the fact that it was done without being rude. :flowerforyou: Other zumba classes that I've done have calculated about 500-550 for me. This is the only one I've ever done that is consistently…

How do you know how many calories you burn?
-
Oh I can definitely DO it. I'm sure I've eaten 4000 calories in one sitting, no problem. Obviously I don't want to just eat a ton just to eat though. I didn't want to eat back all of them, I think that would be ridiculous and a bad habit to get into!
-
I also weigh a lot more than you, I think, so I'm going to burn more. But agree to disagree.
-
True!!
-
LOL, ok. Like I said, it's not a typical zumba class, it's very different, which is why I don't go to others. Since you have never attended this particular class, I'm going to go ahead and go with my own account of it. I appreciate your input, however. :) Cheers! :drinker:
-
:) I know quite a few people who go all out and burn high during Zumba. This particular class is the only one I go to because it is crazy, much more like a hip hop class. And I'm a dancer so I tend to go a bit crazy. :) But that's also why I wear the heart rate monitor. It's very accurate and I don't want to overestimate.…

You're right, it's a good reminder to look at the whole picture instead of one little piece of it. Thank you!!
-
Thanks! I did eat a nice big bowl of jambalaya and I had 2 pudding snacks for dessert. I'm nice and full and satisfied, so I think I'll call it a night. :)
-
It's not your typical zumba class, it's run by a dance instructor so it's VERY intense, and I do wear a heart rate monitor with a chest strap, so I'm pretty sure it's accurate.
