Welcome Gwynnh. I may sound aggressive in my cycling at times but only compete with myself. I used to study TKD with my son but the belts past purple were too hard on my hips (jumpkicks and sickle/hammer kicks tore me up). Look forward to hearing from you often.

Kind of off the topic but what effect has the weight loss had on your tattoos? Where they done when you were heavier or before you gained the weight? I've alway been curious about this but never thought to ask.

I haven't ridden a horse in years (outside of trail rides in Hawaii). Bicycles are so much easier to store in the garage!

Sorry to hear about your foot Clare. Coral is nothing to mess around with so be sure to carry your treatment to the fullest. One comment about bike fitting systems. Be a little wary of who is operating the system as nothing replaces experience and knowledge. My wife and I went to one shop where they scanned me for my…

My wife has many issues with her hands. She likes the upright handle bars so added horns to them for additional hand positions. Strangely enough, changing her seat helped her hands from going numb so often. The only thing that I can think of was that a nerve pathway or blood vessel was getting pinched off but I don't know.…

Well, with Andrea's help, I made goal despite of myself! We went for breakfast at the Nutcracker in Pataskala, OH on the bikes. Road construction shut down the safest route but she was undaunted and we road along a state highway to get there. Banana Bread French toast, whipped cream, and just a dash of maple syrup with a…

Reporting early as my grandaughter has a birthday party and I don't know if I will be riding Saturday. Rode 2 group rides on back to back days from the same starting point totalling 70.1 miles with a lot of low hill climbing. Interestingly, I rode with a group yesterday and mostly on my own today and got the same average…

To answer the original question, yes most meats weigh less after cooking. That is because the fat is rendered and drains away. Even baked meats will loose some fat. The only way the weight will be the same is if a sauce or other liquid is absorbed by the meat. Many nutrition sites will tell you whether the statistics are…

Hi Lisa. I'm in Central Ohio. The heat isn't a real problem for me as I used to run in the Orlando, New Orleans, and Arlington, TX areas as well as the middle east. It's the humidity that saps me big time. My wife is considerably younger than me but doesn't have my physical background or determination (maybe ego) so…

Thanks for trhe invite to the group. This is my 3rd year in road cycling and I'm 55 years old. Last year I put 1,100 miles on my bike. This year my goal is 2,000 miles and I was worried about making it but now, with a minimum of 2 group rides a week, I think that I'm on track. Last week I put on 88.92 miles including the 2…

Somewhat off topic but I just flashed on someone checking their Polar watch during sex and informing their partner that they have to go another 15 minutes to make calorie burn goal! "But it HAD to be good! My max heart rate hit 211!!" :smokin:

I'd like to drop a "stone" but I'm afraid I'd hit either my knee or my foot in doing it! :-)

Congratulations! According to my conversion program that's just under 198.4 pounds (U.S.) from 245 pounds - 46+ pounds lost! Well done indeed!!

I don't respond well to the reward system. Generally the things I want turn out to be "big ticket" items that have to be purchaesed when we can afford them. Instead I use a challenge system where I set mini-goals to meet. The goals are fitness related and not weight related and my weight is a by-product of my general…

I'd wait a couple of weeks and see how it goes!

It still depends on the cereal inside...sorry!:blushing:

But if everyone blocks the ads, how will the site survive?

Good question! I'll be eager to read the reply to that one as well!

I'd do the water - I think. The concept of hunger pains has always interested me. I don't think I've ever felt them (or maybe didn't recognize them). Don't get me wrong, I've been hungry but never felt any sort of "pain" from it. I believe they are mostly psychological (except in extreme conditions) and, as I've never been…

Until your ankle heals. Or, at least, until the swelling goes down, you don't do any exercise that puts weight on it. Ice the first 24 hours and then heat. I would also get a neoprene support to wear for awhilte. You could wrap and/or tape your ankle but that's a little tricky as you could give yourself blisters from…

I would see a doctor soon. Two years ago I hurt my left knee on a treadmill and self-diagnosed the injury. I determined that it was just an old guy getting back in shape. I toughed out 3 5K runs and 2 4-mile runs during the summer until my knee clicked loud enough for my daughter to hear it as we walked in the hardware…

You might try varying your workouts a little bit. Sometimes the body gets used to a routine and just "deals with it" and has to be "shocked" into reacting. I definitely agree with the measurements idea. Remember that you could be building muscle (that's a good walk!) and though a pound of muscle shows up on the scale the…

Well cold, one of two things is happening. Either you are super consistant with your calorie balance or you're not posting your nutrition diet at the end of the day (or next day). That's where the program gets the data from.

Natural fruit juice isn't bad. Fruit drink is bad because of all the stuff they add to the fruit concentrate. Just read the labels. Juice is GOOD!

Yesterday was a big "test yourself" day on the bicycle. (You can read all about it on my blog if you want.) After finishing the data entry for exercise and nutrition the program informed me that "if everyday were like this one, you would weight 128.6 pounds in five weeks." Not only is that NOT a goal weight but I wouldn't…

It's counter-intuitive but maybe eat food that is more calorie dense as long as the nutrition stays balanced. Remember that too few calories can cause fat gain and muscle loss as the body protects itself. Kind of like the photo of the starving children with the enormous stomachs.

I never considered whether it was accurate or not. I just thought it was a motivational tool - kind of a warm fuzzy. Thanks for posting this!

Little things make a big difference! Eat sandwiches open-faced or without the bun or bread. Give up rolls and donuts for fruit and high fiber substitutes. Substitute sweet potatoes for potatoes or eat only half of the fries that come with your meal and leave the rest behind. Little steps.

I remember the little guy I used to be and the hard times I took from it and get angry to keep going. Besides that, I find that goal setting really helps me not to quit. When lifting, I tell myself not how many reps I've done but how many I have left to go to meet my goal. When bicycling, I guide on stronger riders and try…
