All I drink is Diet Coke - I wouldn't want to waste my calories on soda! However, diet is purported to have its own slew of problems and while I'm not qualified to comment on the truthfulness of that, I'm inclined to believe that its true.

i used to do this (eat wayyy to much of a food - any food really. i had no idea what an appropriate portion size was and i didn't really care.) which is how i got this high and i still do it sometimes. whenever i feel the need to eat 10 of this or a whole bowl of that i remind myself that just having 1 or 2 is enough to…

even elite athletes give themselves rest days - so don't let the fact that you took a rest day get you down! when planning my runs i plan easy days and hard days. also, every four weeks or so i plan easy weeks. when building up your stamina and increasing your time/distance every week you need to remember to give your body…

Also, when choosing your activity level (i.e. sedentary, lightly active, moderately active) make sure NOT to take into consideration your exercise. Your activity level is exclusive of exercise. Exercise is taken into consideration when you enter it into your exercise log.

Hello! I was in the exact same boat a month ago! All throughout college I did not pay much attention to what I ate or how much I exercised. This last year when I was super busy completing my masters program I really let myself go and gained 10 pounds in just one year! In April I decided I wanted to change because I did not…

I drank Slim Fast during the last semester of my masters program because I was super stressed and I wanted something quick for breakfast that would fill me up without the calories. Here is what I found: The drinks taste all right the first few times but after that the taste gets really old and I really stopped liking them.…

This story brings two lessons to mind (both of which I need to work on, as well - sometimes I lack that mouth-filter): Be thoughtful before you speak. Sometimes you can hurt someone's feelings without even realizing it. Learn how to take a compliment. Don't respond to a compliment with self-deprecation when a "thank you"…

I jut read this great post (from a couple of years ago) about eating your exercise calories. From the amount of exercising you're doing it sounds like you are not eating your exercise calories if you are only eating 1200-1400 calories. Please read the post because it delves into exactly why this is important. (It's a bit…

i'm in! :) i'm just about to run 1.35 miles anyway...

Thank you for doing this! I need some accountability... Yesterday I went on a 3.2 mile trail run (38 minutes) and today I ran some hills (3 repeats). I feel like I should have pushed myself and ran one more though. Tonight, I'm going on a hike with a friend. I usually do some calisthenics (various forms of sit ups, push…

While you may not be able to dictate what you eat, you can control how much you eat. Try to load up on the healthy stuff and eat the other stuff sparingly. Do you know what the planned meals are? Typically with big groups meals are planned well in advance so if you can figure out what the food is going to be look up the…

To calculate calories go to the Training Log to enter a Workout. Click Add on the day you want to add a workout. Complete the form including your route and time for the run, ride, etc. Then click Auto Calculate next to the Estimate Calories Burned box. Also, if you go to Step 2 rather than just immediately saving the…

I have also found gaining the momentum of friends is key. When you have people with whom you enjoy spending time a lot of things become much more doable and acheivable. Do you parents have friends in their area who would like doing an exercise DVD with them? Or going on a walk with them?

I want to join! I just graduated college and want to get in wicked shape before real life starts!

Apparently, ****'s Sporting Goods is an expletive - haha. Also, I forgot - I've been told you should replace your running shoes every 300 miles or 3 months whichever comes first.

When I started running long distances regularly in high school I found that the optimal combination for me to prevent blisters was: 1) good shoes - try going to a running store where they have you run on a treadmill with a video camera on your feet to check your form in the shoes. Having good shoes is imperative both for…
