  • As someone who's thyroid has destroyed itself I can absolutely confirm that it makes very little difference to metabolism in terms of burning calories. What it does do is make you more sluggish and a lot less likely to fidget (I can be mistaken for a sloth at times) and give you an excuse to give yourself as to why you…
  • Fantastic! great way to get started and you can take it as slowly as you need to, good for you!!! What did your RA doc come back with in the end, something helpful? :)
  • I love a pie. I have wondered about getting a pie, eating the inside then throwing away the pastry. This would save a whole load of calories. Then I realised my life would be worthless, so on days when I have cycled, walked a lot and had a game of netball I eat a pie. A whole pie (usually chicken and mushroom for anyone…
  • My other half lost 23lbs in 2 weeks with an abscess on his liver that burst. Very successful but it nearly killed him. My guess is that you want to do this because others will judge you and what you are wearing in 2 weeks time for some reason. Then what after that? It won’t matter any more? Until the next time. The amount…
  • @OooohToast We have a very similar outlook :D you've done amazingly! I never hit those markers but I suspect I would have done if I hadn't taken action before the checkup. Sugar and pastry used to rule my life - I would crave them both and usually give in. Recording what I eat is the key to success. Even If I have a food I…
  • Hubby is completely better now thanks! Massive well done to you for changing your life. I actually found the blood sugar diet pretty easy with no hunger and very few cravings (my downfall!) although I'm much more relaxed now and try to stick to lower carbs (not carb free, I still like the odd slice of bread or a bit of…
  • I weigh daily on a withings scale but only stand on it long enough to actually record and send the weight if it's gone down! That way I know what the reality is, but I don't get the negative feelings if I look at the stats in fitbit/MFP/Healthmate. Kind of a cheat but it works for me.
  • Yeah, I used to regularly lose half a stone in the first week then be like an over-enthusiastic puppy for a couple of months losing loads until I fell off the wagon each time and sank back into my food pit!
  • I've tried all the slimming clubs going but none stuck. I'd do well for a couple of months then start to resent the rules and overeat again. My husband got really ill, and when I was sat next to his hospital bed and the consultant told us it was a good job he was so fit and healthy before he fell ill otherwise he may not…
  • I think this thread may be of use to you @matt30in30 (amazing what you can find with a 2 minute search ;) ) https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10745399/apple-watch-users-does-this-sound-about-right
  • You lot are brilliant! Another Hypo with Hashimoto's here in the UK taking 150mcg Levo daily. I've lost 30 lbs now and it is a struggle! Had an endometrial ablation a couple of months ago to curb heavy bleeding which has changed my life - no longer needing to take iron tablets. Taking it one day at a time and I am…
  • Does MFP actually sync calories burned from the Apple watch? reading the help forums it seems that at one point it only pulled steps not calories burned or heart rate. This would partly explain the issue? I don't use an Apple watch so not sure if this is still the case.
  • I've done pretty much every slimming club over and again to try and find the "perfect" answer, but they all have the same problem for me... 1. They restrict the type of food I can eat so I am not "choosing" not to eat it myself, I am being denied it by the diet. So I want it all the more. 2. I have to go to a class and sit…
  • Really difficult to tell as we don't have your stats but If you were a 30 year old male, 5'10'', weighing a "healthy" bmi of 12 stone 7 then your BMR should be around 1700 calories for the day. You have your target set at 1200 which is pretty low considering you are very active which would mean an extra 1000 calories or so…
  • Just realised I never followed this up... I'm now 34lb lighter and doing well, but @Fuzzipeg this sentence made me giggle so much, with hypothyroidism it's not just the threads in here that are slightly comatose :D
  • Thank you ladies! I’m pretty well under control and have no excuse for not getting on with this so I will start logging and see what happens!! 😊
