  • An honest question - if you aren't counting the calories in, how are you accomplishing your goals in CICO?
  • There are people who think diet strategies like keto and intermittent fasting magically melt away weight, when in reality, people just tend to eat less calories with restrictive diets and during smaller feeding windows.

  • On the bright side, this pandemic has been excellent for self-discovery, in understanding 1) how self-sufficient you are, 2) how high maintenance you are, and 3) how bored you are with yourself. I don't have hair, I have been my own barber for over 20 years :) I can workout at home. I have modest tastes in food and drink…
  • I have to admit I have no idea why religious leaders want to take these risks, other than it is easier to pass a collection plate onsite. I work at home and communicate with people from all across the country constantly and have productive meetings. A number of churches do this as well. A forward-thinking pastor streaming…
  • My neighbors had a sort of block party the other weekend, maybe 15-20 people in their driveway drinking all day and then sitting around a firepit until midnight. Yards full of kids playing. Everyone of these families have at least one grandparent in their lives, ranging from the mid-60s to 80s. The compulsion to be social…

  • My observation is that there are two completely different worlds in this currently. 1) People who are able to continue to work and have not experienced economic hardship 2) People who are no longer able to work and are struggling. I am lucky to be in group 1, changing from 50% working at home to 100%. So while I face daily…
  • I think the people who are faring the best mentally in isolation during this pandemic are military vets. We were built for this. We can follow orders, even if we internally question them. We are used to operating according to a chain of command - the governor orders these safety protocols, and as long as they aren't…
  • Even the great kids are challenging to take care of during a quarantine. No one had built their lives to accommodate suddenly yanking their kids out of school with no notice in March and figuring out how to engage them while trying to work full time.
  • That would have been a great option. My birthday was a few weeks ago and I would have been mortified if the neighbors all gathered and risked everyone's health on my behalf. Stay home, let's celebrate in a few months.
  • As in introvert, isolating alone would be a piece of cake. If this happened pre-wife and kids, I would be fine, I would probably have read 15 books, played 100 games of chess on the internet, and burned a lot more calories exercising over the past month. Being quarantined with two young kids is very stressful at times.…
  • People mistake defiance for freedom and strength. In the case of pushing back against the rules established to keep vulnerable people safe, defiance is just reckless.
  • I went from working half the time at home to full time, so it wasn't a drastic change. I have done everything I possibly can to make this period "business as usual." I eat the same amount on roughly the same schedule as I did (actually healthier, I haven't eaten bar food or any other type of outside food in over two weeks…
  • We ordered grocery delivery from Instacart yesterday. The service had 7-8 local grocery stores to choose from and we ordered from 3. They just drop it off on your porch, no interaction. We wiped down the stuff that needed to be refrigerated/frozen and put it in the garage refrigerator where it will sit for a few days - we…

  • I think it is more cultural. Elderly population with multiple generations living in one home, less social distancing day to day, a lot of festivals in February at the worst possible time, and more defiant about being quarantined. Plus a lot of tourism.
  • This means we will potentially have far less than 5x's the number of cases and deaths as Italy. We are a country with 320 million with the same *total number of infections* as a country of 60 million, that is great (if that trend holds up.) I live in Ohio as well, and I feel like our Governor really jumped up and lead well…
  • Saw this today - if we agree on the timeline, the US was trending closely with Italy (it has since grown at a larger pace.) The good news is, the US has five times the population (60 million vs 320 million), so the magnitude is much less. (Not sure why California was dropped in with a different timeline)
  • If you catch the virus from attending a public social event after you were officially warned not to attend public social events, you should get in the back of the line for any medical services.
  • I've been a fan of apocalypse fiction since I've been a teen, from The Stand to One Second After. The fragility of our modern system is always evident when we have a power outage or pandemic. You realize your entire world can collapse within a few short weeks. Any shortages we are currently experiencing are because of…
  • 49 and bidding farewell to my 40s very soon - I don't plan on slowing down :)
  • I am working from home full time (instead of the usual half time) for the next month. I get an extra hour of sleep each day, spend zero time commuting, don't pay for parking, don't go through security, don't wait for the elevator multiple times throughout the day, only have to walk 10 feet down the hall to use the restroom…
  • I am indifferent toward steak. It is fine, I will have a steak every once in a while, but I'm not like "OMG I'M HAVING STEAK TONIGHT!" crazy about it like most people I know, lol.
