  • I apologize for specifically replying to part of your post, I dislike large quotes. I would avoid words like "really" in the future. If you'd just said "low" I probably wouldn't have thought twice. I wasn't trying to correct you, I just wanted to point out that height was a factor and even a relatively active short person…
  • It really depends on the OP's height. I'm 5'0", I work from home but use a standing desk and move often, and I work out 4x a week - I am on 1450 calories to lose weight. When I was only working out 3x a week and not standing for work, I only ate 1350 calories. 1300 is not really low for smaller framed people.
  • I eat sandwiches most days, either turkey lunchmeat or tuna salad. It's around 45 grams of carbs, but you can get lower carb bread and switch the chips for something else (like carrot sticks or something with fiber), or just the cheese no crackers. It's around 450-550 calories too.
  • Thank you! I haven't seen any protein powders for sale that are soy (maybe not as common) but I think I've seen high protein soy milk in the milk alternatives, I might give it a try. I do buy protein pasta, but it's pretty high carb even with the protein. I don't eat a lot of pasta because it's calorie dense.
  • I mean I am, but I also don't eat dairy. I've been lactose intolerant my entire adult life, but I still ate non-lactose dairy. What I mean is, cutting out lactose cut out the majority of the bloating and gas - but I still struggled with my skin - and it turned out other issues too. When I quit eating dairy, I went from…
  • Thank you for the suggestion. I eat tuna several times a week! I don't care for other fish, but tuna is a really inexpensive source of lean protein.
  • I found plain egg and rice protein (with nothing else) available online - I think I'm going to try those.
  • I wish I knew what it was like to have smooth skin! Mine is the best it's been since I was a young teen or before, but it isn't 100% clear - and my back/chest still have spots. It's so frustrating. Right now I've lost most of my sense of taste due to covid, maybe I could have the pea protein for now...
  • Thanks I will look that up, the only been protein ones I've seen before were "mass gainers". I appreciate the suggestion! Aw man, the third or fourth ingredient is 'Whole Milk Powder" - may not have whey, but it isn't dairy free!
  • Thanks - I've looked at it, it's sweetened with stevia. I can't stand stevia. I can taste even small amounts.
  • Thanks! I'm going to try this! No sweeteners!
  • Thanks - I'll keep it in mind.
  • I haven't been able to find one, I'd really like to try it. Do you have a brand recommendation?
  • Thanks for the tip! I have added more eggs to my diet. I eat meat regularly, It may not be relevant to you, but the prices of food, especially proteins, are skyrocketing. Protein powder is usually an affordable way to increase your protein. I never said I didn't like protein powder! I can't find one! That is what I'm…
  • Aren't those whey protein based? Whey is dairy. I'm specifically looking for recommendations that are non-dairy.
  • Thanks! I've known that I'm lactose intolerant all of my adult life - using lactose free milk and cheese has not stopped the breakouts. I am 34 and I have literally never stopped having acne. Literally never in my life. I kept thinking it would "eventually" go away with age. Then there was pregnancy and breastfeeding and I…
  • That is on the thinner end of healthy for your height. That may be why it's hard to maintain. Unless you eat at a slight surplus it will be very hard to add muscle - recomp is a long slow process that is hard - which is why people bulk and cut. I'm 5'0" and I weigh 125lb, I'm trying to get down to 115lb but I'm not sure…
  • Same. The simplest way to stop drinking sugar Mt. Dew is to get no sugar Mt. Dew. That is the quickest way to solve your problem. According to my husband, who drinks Mt. Dew Zero - Diet mountain dew is not as good, you taste the twinge of the sweetener. Zero sugar tastes like mountain dew, but not as sweet. If you are…
  • OWYN protein shakes are free of the to 8 allergens. I drink them because I'm dairy free. They sweeten with monk fruit (and maybe a small amount of sugar). Edit: They have pea. Nevermind. I used some integrated supplements pure protein which was sweetened with monk fruit and has very few ingredients, it's dairy so I don't…
  • This is how lactose affects me. I'm intolerant.
  • No you trap bar deadlift it. The buckets are on either side of your body - not in front of your body. Therefore the trap bar deadlift is a superior training for that activity. In any comparison between the trap bar and conventional, the trap bar is better suited because you literally lift the weight straight up, not…
  • I'm 5'0", 129lbs. I'm looking to lose about 12-15lbs, depending on how my clothes fit. My calorie goal is 1,385. I work from home at a desk but work out 3x a week. You must be very active to have a calorie deficit at 2,000 calories!
  • It is probably as useless to most people as conventional deadlift. You probably can never lift anything other than a pair of matching suitcases on either side of your body. The movement helps you learn but will never be replicated in life. Imagine if you need to lift something heavy - you'd probably straddle it and squat…
  • If you have no clue, I'd suggest an elimination diet. I've recently cut dairy out of my diet, I know that it bothers me. It has greatly reduced my flatulence and gastric distress, and I am more aware when something else has given me flatulence - it's either beef or alcohol gives it to me. Now it actually stands out and is…
  • I got these at one point in my life. They were either cluster headaches or TMJ related headaches. I would wake up around 2:00 with a crippling headache, would wake me up from a dead sleep. I'd take aleve and ice that side if my head (single sided) and it would go away in 30 minutes or so like it never happened. Melatonin…
  • I'm 5' and I'm trying to stick to 1500 calories - I should lose slowly at that level.
  • Baking is science, you usually should not leave stuff out and be careful with substitutions. Cooking is art - you can remove things you find unpleasant and add things you like. My husband is like this with textures. When we made rotel cheesedip we blend the rotel in the blender...only way he will eat it! (I admit, I like…
  • Nuts and nut milks are a good way to eat more fat/less carbs, although they don't have the protein. Eating dairy free recipes has given me a lot of nut/nut butter based things, I have been eating far fewer carbs and more fat.
  • I'm not vegan but I've recently started eating dairy free - so I have tried vegan protein options for that reason. I tried OWYN ready made shakes today, they were good - I got the chocolate pro version (more protein). I would bet the regular version tastes even better. It tastes better than many milk-based protein shakes.…
