  • Unless you have a health-based reason to avoid soy, as others mentioned (and I do), it has more protein, so it's a great option especially for vegans and vegetarians. However, almond milk is lower in calories and I personally prefer the taste. It may also depend on what you want it for. For example, I always put almond and…
  • I eat around 2000 calories per day. I am also more focused on health than weight, although I have happily lost a few pounds eating this much. Feel free to add me and check out my diary! Good luck with your recovery.
  • Personally, I used to want to be much thinner, but I realize now that my goal was unattainable. My new goal is 25 lb. heavier than the goal I once had (it rose gradually). Weight loss is a journey. Some people have the opposite experience and find that they want to keep losing even when they reach their original goal. Just…
  • I can't eat any of the above because of health reasons, so I find this quite rude. For the record, I don't even like steak or bacon. And while I've found that Trader Joe's makes a delicious chocolate coconut-based ice cream and there are great gluten-free baked goods to be had in my city (or kitchen!), I also have to limit…
  • I agree that the information out there can be a bit overwhelming, but I think it's all about moderation. I've debated veganism, but ultimately decided that I'd rather continue to get some of my protein from organic eggs and chicken and wild fish. Although I'm considering limiting my soy intake because of hormone issues, I…
  • Well, each day doesn't exist in a vacuum. Since it happened today, it would come out of today's calories. But then some people look at the whole week's calories rather than daily because of days of high variance like this. Of course, it's not healthy to provide yourself with no fuel before or during an extended workout.
  • I think a big part of this is attitude as well! Some people feel like it's not worth it to cook for themselves, but I love cooking for myself. I get to make things exactly how I like them without worrying about anyone else's wants/needs and I get yummy and healthy food. Depending on what I'm making, sometimes I'll make one…
  • Alcohol, soda, red meat, fried food, dark meat
  • I always come up with a meal + snack schedule for myself which helps me eat properly and stay on track. I'd recommend using non-work days to cook bulk quantities for your work days of foods that you like. For meals on non-work days, experiment with new recipes and hopefully you'll find some veggies you enjoy (I rarely ate…
  • Why have you given up tea and bread? I understand that you gave up butter to avoid saturated fats - the health risk of which is being debated, as new studies show it may not be as harmful - but I'd say it's a healthy choice if you're switching to unsaturated alternatives, as long as they're not processed junk. Not sure why…
  • Women are not supposed to eat less than 1200 calories a day. It isn't healthy. If you're under 8400 calories/week, you are not balancing out with your "binge" days (which seem normal calorie-wise). Make sure you're getting enough protein and healthy fats. I always make sure that my meals and snacks are balanced. For…
  • Took a sip from my water bottle
  • 2 shots of espresso with 1.5 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • I see that you posted this in weight loss help. I feel it's necessary to point out that sugar and salt don't have a *direct* impact on weight, so if weight loss is your primary goal, your main focus should be calories. That said, recent studies have been showing that excessive sugar consumption contributes to many health…
  • I only recently started drinking tea. It's best if you can go somewhere that allows you to sample, imo, to find what flavors you like. I exclusively drink Teavana tea (which is great because I can sample and the loose-leaf gives you more control over strength, etc., although it can be a bit of a hassle on the go). Any can…
  • I eat mostly clean because it makes me feel healthier and better. To me, this means eating foods that are not processed or processed as little as possible. I will eat some packaged foods, but I exercise judgement based on the ingredients. For example, I prefer canned/boxed tomatoes with tomatoes as the only ingredient and…
  • Sometimes exercise can suppress hunger despite burning calories. Of course, it's important to eat a healthy post-workout meal/snack regardless and not to go too far below calorie goals.
  • Plenty of people go by weekly, not daily, calories, so I don't see anything wrong with this! Although if you are limited to 1200 calories/day, that's truly a minimum and you should consume this.
  • I typically just bring my own food, although I found that portions on planes are small and many airport foods have calories listed.
  • When I'm slightly achy, I power through my workouts anyway. But if you're experiencing serious aches, sometimes you need a rest day and that's ok too. You may want to take it easy that day or do something like yoga.
  • Exercise can help reduce cramps if that is the problem, which it is for me, so I try to work out if possible. Sometimes I'll take a pain pill to just get through my workout though. The key thing is not to be lazy, but recognize when you may need an extra rest day, because that's ok.
  • Sugar is not even a macro. It is a micronutrient. That said, I am trying to lower sugar at the moment, but due to a health issue. As a side effect, I find that I am eating less calories - but it isn't necessary. While it's okay not to follow the ideal macros MFP sets, the general recommendation is to stay under 35% fat and…
  • I love my fitbit flex! I did have an issue with my first flex after about 7 months, but I got the $20 geek square insurance from best buy and replaced it, and they only charged my $5 to keep insurance on the new one. I know fitbit also has really good customer service since I contacted them first about my problem, and they…
  • Macros + Calcium (need to watch because I don't eat dairy) + Iron (need to watch because I don't eat red meat)
  • I would suggest getting lots of fiber from real foods. It's not even that difficult. I surpass my fiber goal daily. Also, protein is a great idea.
  • I wear my glasses so I can see the number on the scale.
  • Weight gained from binging isn't like water weight. The food is already out. The fat is still there because you gained weight. You, therefore, need to lose weight. The time it takes to lose the weight will depend on a) how much weight you gained and b) how great your calorie deficit is.
  • Might have been the best $20 I ever spent. Besides the obvious benefit of accuracy, I'm no longer constantly washing measuring cups and spoons!
