  • Wanted to give you all the update: I picked up a vaporizer and it's really been helpful. I do still have an occasional cigarette, but it's less than 2 a week, and I can string together multiple weeks without one. I started vaping at 18mg, and I've made my way down to 6mg juice. I'm hoping I can cut it all the way down to 0…
  • It can absolutely help. It took me years of therapy and finding the right combination of medications (one specifically geared toward OCD) to get to a point where I could manage my obsessions. The other thing is that, like most psychiatric disorders, OCD has a tendency to increase in intensity during any time of stress or…
  • Are you still in therapy? Have you ever gone the medication route? It made an enormous difference in my case.
  • Speaking from experience, cutting out alcohol completely means a lifestyle change. If you really don't want to drink at all anymore, get it out of the house, and stay away from social drinking situations for a while. Don't go to bars. If you routinely do anything like dinner with friends and have a glass or two, you'll…
  • In the past, I used it as a habit replacement where I would make green tea instead of boredom eating. It worked in that sense, but I would have had the same results with any kind of tea, or even something like taking a nap. There's nothing magical about it,but it gave me something to do instead of eating when I wasn't…
  • There are many, many forms of meditation. Many people think it's just sitting and "clearing your mind," but that's really not feasible as a starting point. If you're worried about the thoughts coming up, look into moving meditations. If you want to sit, focus more on mindfulness. Acknowledge all the thoughts that come up,…
  • I do lots and lots of yoga from online videos. My favorite site for it is DoYogaWithMe.com
  • I was going to eat a whole steak like I used to today. I even cooked the whole thing. Then when it was done, I cut it in half and threw half in the fridge.
  • I assume you had to stop exercising for a while after surgery. Are you just getting back into yoga now? I got away from it for a few months postpartum and found when I picked it up again I could not even approach a lot of poses I formerly had no problem with. Keeping up with it consistently has really helped me improve,…
  • Yeah, but once you hit one number, you just get hung up on the next!
  • Are you taking in enough calories? That's something to look at if you feel like you're sleeping too much and still getting drowsy.
  • I haven't been told specifically that it would be unhealthy to conceive at this point, but I ended up with Gestational Diabetes that required insulin during my last pregnancy and I'm heavier now than I was then. Part of the reason I'm motivated to lose weight is because I want to have more kids, and I want any future…
  • That article says that you can work up a tolerance to the diuretic effects. I know it doesn't cause dehydration. I only said that it's not AS hydrating, which that article confirms about halfway down.
  • I just dropped below 200 a couple weeks ago. A light shone down upon me as I stood on my scale and angels began to sing.
  • Just because it hasn't been mentioned yet, yoga is great to do at home with a video. Power yoga will burn more calories than most of the other styles. There are lots of great videos on YouTube, but my favorite is a site called DoYogaWithMe.com that has tons of free videos of varying lengths and intensities.
  • I have OCD as well, so I know how bad those obsessions can get. First of all, what are you doing to manage the condition? That's really where you need to start if your obsessions are currently centering around foods.
  • Ohhh I miss Rally's! We don't have them where I live now. There's nothing wrong with indulging every so often. I had a day last week where I knew I was going to be especially active, so I went to Five Guys. The burger alone was close to 1,000 calories and the fries were another few hundred. I managed to end the day with…
  • Be careful if you're counting caffeinated drinks as hydration. Caffeine has a diuretic effect, so you don't get nearly as much hydration as you would from a decaffeinated source.
  • There's lots through the day I don't track. A lot of my cooking and cleaning, bouncing on my Pilates ball with my baby daughter, or anything that I only do for a few minutes.
  • Always keep it near you and just take a few sips at a time to start with. You can also flavor it with a little fruit juice. That's how I started back when I hated drinking water, and now I'm getting several liters a day.
  • DoYogaWithMe.com has tons of free videos for all levels.
  • I still eat them if they're sprouting, but I compost them once they lose their firmness.
  • I use that calculator for my various forms of yoga, because MFP is severely lacking there. (I.e. Yin yoga does not burn nearly as many calories as Vinyasa or power yoga). Most of what they have on that list I wouldn't bother logging, though. I mean really, brushing your teeth? Who would log that? The other thing is I like…
  • Depends on the workout. Yoga gets soft instrumentals, but something more rigorous gets like MC Chris or Twenty-One Pilots.
  • I'm trying to stop. That's why I posted this thread. I know the impact that it has, but the nature of addiction causes this basic logic to be overruled. I've heard remarks like this since I had my first cigarette about 15 years ago, and the only thing they do is provoke a stubbornness that actually prevents me from…
  • A lot of the autistic kids I know have really benefitted behaviorally from active play (i.e. Fun exercise). Take it slow, but see if you can find something he enjoys with a high activity level that you can do together. Some examples I've seen work can be as simple as dancing, some have liked easy yoga, others have enjoyed…
  • Too much sodium will cause you to retain water, which will increase your weight, but there are other factors to consider too. Think about where you are in your cycle. You'll likely gain weight when ovulating, and you may find that you gain a couple pounds overnight when it's your TOTM. Did you eat later in the day…
  • I have OCD as well. Are you on medication for it, or have you ever looked into the possibility? I was in therapy for years before meds were introduced into the equation, and then it took several more years before we found the right combination of prescriptions. I'm now on the perfect meds and doses for me and it's made an…
  • Deadlines have always been great for me in the past, but my husband doesn't do so well with them. First it was going to be when we got married, then when we bought the house, then when I got pregnant (that's the last time I quit, and I was able to stay quit for the duration), then he was going to quit that New Year's, then…
  • I'm also a stay/work at home mom and one thing I've found helpful is to incorporate my daughter into workouts. She loves doing yoga with me (she's still tiny, so I can hold her while doing a lot of poses). I'll also put on some music and hold her while dancing around the kitchen. I get a good burn that way. Maybe take the…
