  • 40 is just the beginning of when it gets good-- You can do it! I'm a mom, over 40 and I have lost weight and kept it off and now have a successful health and wellness coaching business. I ran my first marathon at 39 and my second at 40. Age is nothing- I am in better shape now and thinner than I was in college and I…
  • Short answer, No. But longer answer is - Depends on how you are calculating your calories burned. If you are using the MFP estimates or (god forbid) an estimate off a machine, you are likely way off. If you're using a HR monitor (Polar, Apple Watch or FitBit HR) and a step-based workout (like running) you can get a decent…
  • I always joke that I'm "sober curious". I focus a lot on cutting back and have mixed success. Was doing well at cutting back in the weeks leading up to my first marathon in Jan. Once that brutal training schedule was over and vacation came I was back into bad (and caloric!) habits. My biggest issue is on the days I do…
  • Find somewhere to do an InBody scan or get caliper tested by a trainer or doctor if you want an accurate reading. My gym offers it and I do it every six weeks for an accurate read. InBody tells you fat in each section of your body as well as overall fat muscle, bone and water. You can try and caliper test yourself (buy a…
  • You will know it as you get there and it's different for everyone. For me it's 115 (I'm 5'5.5") but I know women my height who weigh more but wear it well and look better. I look good at 119 but great at 115. 122.5 right now so I'm getting there!
  • Joining late! Day/Weight/Comment 12/31- 122.6. Weight back up after 2 glasses of wine and a cookie last night after dealing with a flooded basement. Heading to the gym and going for moderation tonight at NYE dinner. Resolutions kick off tomorrow! 1/1 1/2 1/3 1/4 1/5 1/6 1/7
  • Add me! I’m 5’6” and 122 at the moment but look best at 117. Would love to check in.
  • I'll join in! 5'6" and 38 yrs old. Anyone want to buddy up? Starting weight 127 Current weight 121.6 Goal weight 115
  • Drink more water! Also more low calorie filling foods like salads with leafy greens and veggies. There are great low calorie veggie dips (try Mt Vikos tzaziki or roasted red pepper dip) and a huge plate of cut up veggies with a good dip can be super filling.
  • You're almost my twin! Height- 5' 5.5" SW: 128 CW: 120.5 UGW: 117 Body fat is my bigger concern- CBF: 17.4% UGBf: 15% I get bi monthly Inbody scans to track the fat and muscle in each part of my body.
  • SAME! I had the exact same issue. You may be over doing it and your body is holding on to fat in response. For me, eating more protein and exercising more made me FAT. Well, maybe not fat, but I couldn't lose and was working so hard! I hired every professional in the books- nutritionist, trainers, coaches, etc. but the…
  • Hi! Sorry for the delay- I didn't see all these replies until today. I added you all and would love to support each other!
  • There definitely may be a medical issue here. That said, you should look at 1) the accuracy of your logging (are you eating out a lot? That is always impossible to log accurately) 2) has anything else changed? I know you said measurements didn't move but does your body feel better and stronger? I GAINED weight and my butt…
  • Ditto. Weekends are my downfall! I'll friend you. Maybe we can check in morning and evening?
  • Thank you all for your replies and for being gracious as I post a pic that I wouldn't normally share! To be clear I am proud of my body, particularly pushing 40 and post baby (and a bed rest pregnancy at that!). And I'm not as concerned with numbers as I am appearance. I could gain weight and be fine if it looks toned and…
  • I guess it's just hard that I pretty much look the exact same as when I was sitting around doing nothing. I'd like to reduce my body fat to around 17-18% and have leaner legs and a narrower waist. Saddlebags need to go.
  • Fair question. The numbers are fine but I don't wear it well. Mostly this layer of fat all over is what I'd love to get rid of. I'd like to look leaner- I'm happy with my muscle tone, just not the pudge over top.
  • You ever ask a question you know the answer to in hopes you'll get a different one? I 100% know you're right. If I keep tweaking things I'll keep getting tweaks in my appearance. If I want radical change I need to make radical change.
  • Hmm, it's not necessarily about the number, per se, but how I look. I am toned and stronger, but there's a layer of fat that just won't budge.
  • calories may be where I"m screwing up. I usually eat around 1500 a day. My BMR (based off my body scans) is 1380. Plus I exercise. I do not do any HIIT or other high intensity, though. I am posting (even though it kills me) my current photo so you can see the issue. I look fine for a 37 year old mom, but not how I'd like…
  • Don't know about the muffins, but two ingredient cookies are good- overripe banana and a 1/2 cup of oatmeal. Mash, mash, mash and bake at 350 until they firm up. Delish.
  • Ditto. It's not just the extra 2-300 calories from having wine, it's the chips or cereal I have afterwards because my willpower dissolves. It's the fact that I can't push myself to run as far the next morning because I never sleep as well. The calories and the spillover consequences are not worth it!
  • seansquared- lovely idea but my husband decidedly is not joining me in giving it up and we have (no joke) a 1,000 bottle wine cellar. But good point on avoiding having it around- I will lock it and have him keep the key. It's hard not to join him and it's hard socially when people invite you out for drinks. I will say that…
