If someone is on a 1200-1500 calorie a day plan, the 3 Oreos is over 10% of their caloric intake. Not much wiggle room to get optimum nutrition with the 3 Oreos on a daily basis.

But in most cases behavior modification should be able (in theory anyway) to get one off the drug. And we don't know the long term effects of these drugs. If I was in a situation where I needed them, it would be a huge wake up call and I'd modify my behavior so I could stay off them.

You are very correct and my "issue" with it, who knows what that will do long term. With that said, my SIL was diagnosed with T2D as well as severe fatty liver. The doctor is going through the insurance hoops to get her on Ozempic or some similar drug. We know it won't change behavior, but at this point, morbidly obese,…

Yep, junk calories.

Why not use the phone she already has for music, podcasts, whatever?

Sorry but motivation from a bunch of well intentioned randoms on-line won't do you any good. You have to have a long term vivid goal you can work toward (probably with some subgoals built in). I'm stealing from a well known trainer, Dan John. My goal is to be healthy enough to dance with my granddaugher at her wedding…

IMO, you need to get to your doctor and possibly a Registered Dietitian to help you sort this out. In the meantime, throw out any Girl Scout cookies you have in your house. Good luck.

To be honest on 1200 calories a day and a couple days where most of the food is high calorie, low nutrition, I'd really be watching to ensure adequate nutrition for health.

There have been efforts in some areas to outlaw stupid large sizes of soda, In virtually all these cases there was a public outcry demanding keeping the stupid large sizes. People need to be their own advocates. Saying "they" are setting up people for failure is a copout IMO.

Where is never as an option?

Good for you regarding cutting down on the cookies. I would suggest changing your self talk to "I will stick to my plan", as opposed to "I will try". Good luck

I've had 6 shoulder operations. If you have gym access, should have no problem using the lower body machines, pulling a sled, etc. Of course there is walking, if you can walk up hills all the better. These can also be done after surgery, but get your doctor's or PT's okay first. Also after surgery do the PT and ask your…

The fact that "influencers" who have minimal, if any knowledge on the topic being discussed can change behaviors is a whole other issue.

When talking free you normally get what you pay for. Be it fitness apps or forums. I belong to 2 paid fitness forums and never any mention of inappropriate activity.

When you get away from races sanctioned by USATF and running local races, they can make the age groups whatever they want. Generally based on number of participants.

What "weight opinions will be based in reality" Don't you think weight ranges/classifications are reasonable?
-
You need to see an appropriate medical professional(s). What you are describing is not typical, Good luck.

Bret Contreras has a PhD in Sports Science, written several books, trained high level athletes, etc. I would be pretty sure his qualifications well surpass most people you see in a short Instagram video. I prefer to listen to people with education, training and experience in a field. If you look at Bret's information, he's…

Pre-workouts are just plain crap. Loaded with excessive caffeine.

NOT some crap laden with caffeine. If you lack energy in the morning check your sleep hygiene.

Bulking and cutting may be appropriate for for males in the 6%-20% bodyfat range (around 10-25% for females) and often on gear. Not something for most of the population. Someone with 100 pounds to lose is definitely not in that conversation. Again extra calories are needed to build muscle. Someone with 100 pounds to lose…

There is 100 pounds worth of calorie surplus available. Why is that difficult to understand? Now the person should adjust intake to lose weight as well as increase calories burned. The most efficient time-benefit wise to burn calories is aerobic exercise. However, the person should also do resistance work and if they have…

Some good ideas above. I'm going to paraphrase from a trainer I follow regarding buying home exercise equipment to improve health and fitness. Before you buy, for 2 weeks, take a 30 minute walk (assuming this is okay with your medical team) at least 5 out of 7 days each week and eat at least 5 servings of veggies/fruit a…

What you describe is the modus operandi in most commercial gyms, regardless of body type.
-
Of course training program matters but if going from nothing to even a bit will help.
-
How about these things?
-
To be honest, unless there is some medical issue it's better to keep away from mainly seated exercises or transition away from them as soon as able. No core or balance work involved sitting in a chair. Both of these elements are critical as we age. Good luck.

If the OP has 100 pounds to lose, I can pretty much bet they have not done any lifting. They will gain muscle from the lifting they start doing.
-
Disagree. Why wait to lift weights and build muscle for a year + while losing fat?
