  • Med to dark and I put med to dark coffee in it. I used to do creamer and artificial sweetener but gave that up about three months ago. I haven't put anything in my coffee or tea since.
  • I use: 50g Broccoli sprouts: sulforafane 50g blueberries: anthocyanin, 100g apple: ursolic acid, pectin, glucaric acid 50g kale, 50g baby spinach: fermentable fiber, sulfoquinovose (prebiotic sugar) 2 celery stalks: luteolin, apigenin One scoop hydrolyzed collagen: proline, glycine 1/2 banana: flavor Strawberries: fiber,…
  • I made me fat, my choices.
  • It was originally an inspiring movement that encouraged an increase in healthy behaviors no matter what your size. It was unfortunately co-opted by those that proclaimed that excessive body fat weight is in no way related to long term health effects, a decrease in average lifespan, or an increase in a vast number of…
  • As far as I know, and I've given it a cursory look, I think it's based on the same thing the 8 8oz glasses of water is based on. That doesn't make it bad a idea though for many of the reasons already stated.
  • Fig newtons for my double digit hikes and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at the end. I never eat them otherwise but they are exactly what I want and crave during and after those bigger hikes (I'm looking at you Grand Canyon and Pikes Peak). On topic, I do avoid (but don't completely abstain from) added sugar but that's…
  • If you're going for more calories then nuts are an excellent source of fat, vitamins and minerals. The biggest reason I eat a lot of nuts is for the magnesium. Up to 45% of the U.S. population (and I'm sure this applies many other countries) are deficient. Magnesium is an incredibly important mineral for the production of…
  • You can of course do what you like but I caution against purposely losing muscle. I work with so many older women that would currently be much better off if they had worked to gain and keep a higher amount of muscle prior to middle age when it becomes more difficult to build it. It can be the difference between enjoying…
  • I only eat at set times. My body and brain like routine.
  • Third hand smoke, also called passive smoke (what is on skin and clothes of a smoker long after the cigarette is extinguished) is dangerous to anyone exposed, especially children. Here's a link describing the reasons why. http://stopcancerfund.org/pz-diet-habits-behaviors/third-hand-smoke/ And here is a link to a study…
  • This is a favorite of mine, similar to what my grandmother used to make. I grow Swiss chard almost exclusively for this stuff. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.geniuskitchen.com/amp/recipe/crustless-swiss-chard-quiche-311434
  • You can try a heat/cold treatment. Start with a warm shower for two minutes then two minutes of cool water (doesn't have to be cold), then one of warm and two of cold. Repeat up to seven times. Some people swear by it. I did it once and I fell asleep before I turned off the bedside lamp (don't do that, it woken me up a few…
  • Thought maybe I should provide a source for my claims. Keep in mind this is only a small fraction of research being reviewed and that there is also research that states the opposite, which is why I used the word 'could' in my previous post. The science is far from settled but since I don't see food and nutrition science as…
  • It won't affect your calorie count but it could possibly have an effect (small spike) on your insulin levels. And in animal models (mice), artificial sweeteners change the gut microbiome. Though this hasn't been researched in humans yet as far as I can tell. Just food for thought. Oh, and so you know my bias, I use…
  • Multivit, D3, Mg, fish oil and melatonin. None are for weight loss.
  • I have the same question as the poster above me: Can you eat berries since they don't grow on trees? If not, you don't have to eat fruits in order to have a nutritious diet. You can get all the plant based vitamins and minerals you need from veggies. Nothing wrong with cutting added out sugar if that's what you want to do,…
  • A drastic change in your diet is a drastic change in the diet of your gut flora. You had a healthy population of bacteria that lived well on your previous diet. It was optimal for them. A drastic change in your diet means that what they were good at consuming is no longer available or only available in smaller quantities.…
  • My grandmother smoked till she was 65, half her diet was candy (Bit 'O Honey and cinnamon bears) and the other half was oatmeal and very milky coffee. She lived to be 95. Guess I better start smoking.
  • People need the education about what calories are, how many you need and how they affect the body first. It's amazing how many people still don't have that basic information. Combine that with the people that spread misinformation about how calories don't matter and things only get further complicated. They need to know…
  • Yeah. News is now clickbate. Long form journalism is dying and the age old saying of, "if it bleeds, it leads," has only become more apparent and prevalent.
  • I think the advent of vaccines that prevent half or more of the child population from dying is and will continue to lead to lower birth rates, along with the combined effects of less labor required to sustain a family (this ties in strongly with the overall wealth of a nation). These are what drove high birth rates down…
  • I fry bacon and then make scrambled eggs in the same pan with a little of the drippings remaining in the morning. This alone isn't weird. However, I don't eat them at breakfast time; I put them in a container and eat them at lunchtime. I prefer room temperature eggs and I eat on a 16/6 schedule. In fact, I'm eating my eggs…
  • "When the last lion roars at the last dusty fountain and the last eagle soars over the last crumbling mountain, in the shadow of the forest though she may be old and worn, in the distance hear her laughing, it's the last unicorn!" Sorry, a reference to the last unicorn made me think of this song. It was my favorite movie…
  • At least it's October.
  • I had thyroid cancer 2 years ago and had to have it removed. I take thyroid replacement hormone but will always be hypothyroid for prescribed medical reasons. You can lose weight despite it. Don't get discourage and don't fall into the trap of using as an excuse like I did for a while.
