  • Treadmill could be right . If 4 or 5 are % then you could cross check with https://exrx.net/Calculators/WalkRunMETs
  • Treadmills used to have a rep for reading high. Is your treadmill level? Try walking on an incline for a much higher cal burn .
  • https://livehealthy.chron.com/calories-burned-walking-different-surfaces-4734.html Some activities are hard to categorize - like there's hiking and there's hiking I walk a neighbours unruly Husky , it's sniff sniff , pull and more pull and beware when he sees a squirrels !! Needless to say I have to change out my t-shirt…
  • I use a 10kg/22lb vest for treadmill walking. This calculator reckons 10kg for me ,78kg, gives about 10% extra burn - https://exrx.net/Calculators/WalkRunMETs I've read that 15% bodyweihgt was well tolerated by unfit clients . And then there's rucking https://www.americangrit.com/2017/04/12/rucking-replace-aerobic-workout/…
  • Hardest part is starting out. Exercise is not a magic method for weight loss , oh no. Your diet is by far the most important factor. A hard look at what you have been eating may help . It takes time , there's no "30 day fix" ! At least YOU are thinking about what you eat which is a great start. dave.j
  • As mentioned above "base fitness" is needed first. And just do what you are happy to do - this means you are more likely to continue . Don't train to failure ,avoid 6 flights at once , avoid hills - moderation is really good , it allows you to exercise for longer without "killing yourself" Bike gears are great for speed…
  • What device are you using the HRM's with ? Tablet , mobile , built-in equipment ? Are you moving out of range when resting ?
  • I really like KB's but I've dropped off this year , did some yesterday for first time Starting mid Nov. and every day December I did 700+ one arm swings a day with 15kg/33lb I was using it as cardio 22 swings on the minute and then finishing 100+ none stop Going heavier was hard - 200+ 15kg swings none stop vs 70 with a…
  • I don't mind this guy's workouts. https://kettlebellsworkouts.com/kettlebell-exercises/ Mark Wildman on youtube gave a good reply to the question - is 10 minutes of kettlebells a day enough ? It depends ! But he then said to start a 20 minute w/out and get it down to 10 minutes . You will progress , especially with lighter…
  • Add water to the pop - eventually you add just a splash of pop to a glass of water , you can get used to this , really . Now I drink only very dilute squash and black coffee , yes without sugar , got used to that !
  • I doubt you could avoid it altogether eg. even sprouts contain some sugar ! A documentary and a webpage about added sugar, The first 5 minutes gives the idea http://www.documentarymania.com/player.php?title=That%20Sugar%20Film https://www.virtahealth.com/blog/names-for-sugar And a current thread -…
  • The Polar OH1 may work for you. Bluetooth and Ant+ Arm or forehead . I think Sole are being very cagey - I think they are BT , pic says so, they may be ant+ as well but ?? Polar may confirm this for you as they have included ant+ ( garmin tech) ie enabling other equipmen manf.'s gear You need to find confirmation of OH1…
  • Not sure what grade you used, but for OP at 2mph, 15 grade, gives 287cals/hr 15% makes v. much harder. I do think they both read a bit high. The 2nd has nett/gross option. They seem to be fairly well regarded tho' . My treadmill is rigged to 18% grade and no other calcs will give any readings. I've read that such steady…
  • https://42.195km.net/e/treadsim/ https://exrx.net/Calculators/WalkRunMETs Both in close agreement - 504 cals for 60 mins , not for "about" 60 mins. These 2 calculators read a fair bit higher than my HRM and app. does for my incline TM workout. That is good going - an hour, 6 days, 3.5mph 15% ! What % max HR at the end?…
  • I just found this thread - Bump.
  • "In the beginning it's all the same . . ." Mark Wildman , 1st minute of this video I think you will see changes in your face first of all . . . belly later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X528fwkUulo
  • 1 - Eat lots more veg. I'll say it again - " Eat lots more veg. " 2 - Dodge the stodge , I keep a magnifying glass in the kitchen to easily read nutrition labels, sugar is the devil ! 3 - Be honest , esp. to yourself.
  • I like this " . . calorie "bombs" . ."
  • Accept it. I think that it should be highlighted much more than it is. " It is reality ." " . . some high calorie foods/treats aren't worth (it) " etc. as already mentioned above. A UK news report at beginning of this year stated that people ate less of foods when told the "exercise equivalent " eg = 90 minutes walking, as…
  • I reckon losing weight is 90% diet. It's difficult to reconcile calorie burn and strength training . . but OP you are walking a lot. Seems the more fit you get , the less impact walking has. Your body can tolerate the walking you do - maybe you could "step it up" a bit. Try carrying some weight - it seems 15% bodyweight is…
  • I have an old leg injury which led to arthritis in the knee 20 yrs later - confirmed on x-ray . It used to give occasional pain and I saw physios who prescribed certain excercises. The exercises seemed to build a "corset" of muscle around the knee which has helped me continue normal activities . I only did the bare minimum…
  • Haven't seen that diy kettlebell article before but it's the way to go for diy. I started to use KB's early this year and made a couple- 15 and 20kgs KB swings are really surprising how hard they work the large posterior muscles . Squats holding a KB also seem to be quite do-able . . . but what a workout ! Not seeing…
  • You have done really very well. It is "the fitness industry " that has failed. It lied. Chloe Ting : 2 Weeks Shred Challenge, Abs Workout | 3 Weeks Challenge, 35 day booty program 10 Mins Toned, Get Abs in 2 WEEKS, Exercise To Lose Weight FAST She is an entertainer. They used to call it show business. Others mention the…
  • I think once you are familiar with calorie content you could just eyeball it , maybe . . . but it's all too easy to delude yourself. Especially when it's your favourite flavour !
  • You are very fit walking 20min @ 30 grade. Have you tried kettlebells ?
  • That linked Body Fat Calculator site - Ouch !
  • So . . . seems calorie estimate accuracy isn't such a big issue . especially where you adjust intake based on results. A lot of posts on here do seem concerned with let's say the "clinical accuracy" of their wearable tech. Of course , I always check the "inaccurate" calorie estimate after a workout !
  • I'm glad calories aren't my priority - it's a minefield ! Putting in 3mph ,60min level walk , 200lbs - exrx gives 315 42.195 gives 513cals ? ? keisan 276 , must put in details so 45yr/5'9 shapesense 360 caloriesburnedhq. 333 healthline 260+ For a much harder incline walk my old treadmill reads low but no inputs at all…
  • Only been exercising 14mths resting hr 47-49 , goes down to 42 sleeping . 62yrs , bmi 27 Youngest daughter's is mostly 90+
  • You have to be very , very fit to burn 1000 calories in an hour. I've tried but 500+ in 35 mins leaves me totally wrecked.
