  • I get better control if I watch my portions by measuring them out and tracking. Also, I use the diabetic plan which limits the zero pt foods but gives me more points . Note: I’m not a diabetic although I have insulin resistance & take metformin. If you go to mtgs, talk with your leader.

  • what are rose harissa and patent barley flour?
  • New to Premium and hoping it will give me some much needed detail on my eating habits. I am up to 182 lbs at 5.2ish (was 5.4 but seem to be shrinking due to age). I've changed my weight goal to 150 pounds (likely still too heavy for my frame, but somehow seems more realistic than my previous 135 goal). Also changed my…
  • Newly retired as of 6/30/2020 from a sedentary position and have now moved to sedentary slothing from my couch to my easy chair. Only activity so far is reading and cooking and occasional masked visits to the grocery store. I'm 71, husband is 81 and we've both become slugs due to the pandemic. I just resigned from WW and…
  • Just reactivated acct and signed up for premium version for the 1st time. I'm newly retired, not exercising, but cooking a lot, so now my husband and I are both gaining weight.
  • It was "bashert" (translation: Kismet or fate) that I read these posts today- especially @Knitormiss. I've been at such a low point for the past few months and the weight is starting to creep back up. Thanks for the honest and comforting comments that reinforce that this is not a one-time thing. It is the LCHF combined…
  • Since I try not to eat anything after 8pm, I try to have breakfast every morning. I sometimes open a small can of red salmon ( only eat half of it)and mix it with cottage cheese . Or maybe some tuna fish salad for breakfast...I also find that if I mix a serving of oatmeal with about 1/4 cup of cottage cheese, I'm full…
  • No matter how many times I log on to the LCHF posts I learn something new and am encouraged by what you all have to say about your individual efforts and challenges.
  • What a terrific, affirming list! Major benefit for me is weight loss and my A1C went down to 5.5. Still working at being more LCHF diligent...I can definitely feel the difference when I goof off!
  • Didn't know about the relationship between vita d deficiency & hashimoto. Had the hashimotos 1st (symptom was the feeling that I was walking thru jello) am on thyroid meds...many, many years later developed the vita-d deficit, now under control.
  • Much better idea - thanks! What was I thinking??? Avocado is a much better choice.
  • Looked back over my carb stats and have been averaging under 100, but I'm maintaining and possibly goofing off more than I should. I can do without the crummy white bread, rice, potatoes, pasta...but not without slow cooking oatmeal, beans, ezekial bread and wasa crisps! I'm going to see how I do within a range of 75-90.…
  • Started to reread this wonderful thread and found my message from 2/23/15 - here it is 1/7/16 and I'm down 35 pounds (ok- I gained 2 pounds over my Oct-Dec break when I sorta' goofed off) and now I'm readying to give it another go to take off 30 more. Again, I've learned not to obsess about how many total calories I eat…
  • Just made my diary public - I try to eat no/low processed foods and also low carb due to my insulin resistance (per doctors) - Lost 36 pounds last year - took a break over the holidays and maintained - now trying to get my mojo going again to take off another 30 - slowly. Want this new way of life to make me be healthier…
  • a crisp, juicy, tart apple!
  • This is great - am so impressed by everyone's goals. I usually don't get my goals formalized until the end of January/early February (started mfp seriously last year in February) - In addition to focusing on the top 3-5 goals I want to accomplish, I also try to do an action plan for each goal so I have steps to do each…
  • Erase the word "diet" from your vocabulary and substitute "way of life" - I lost 36 pounds last year in about 9 months with moderate exercise and a low carb diet (per my doctor's instructions) NOT no-carb!! - I try to keep my calories within 1200-1500 calories per day, but don't obsess if I am over that amount or have too…
  • I've had mine for years and years - doctor recommended and definitely helpful. I now work in an office with lots of natural light and also go for a brief walk during lunch, so that helps with the sunlight issue (also vitamin d) - As the winter wears on, may bring my lamp to work for an extra jolt of rays.
  • I grabbed breakfast from the Whole Foods counter this morning --2 Huevos Rancheros (little to no sauce) 2 slices of turkey bacon and one turkey sausage patty - after I ate it felt nauseous from all the fat - and was shocked by the number of carbs - don't think I'll do that again.
  • My secret is reading the posts written by others who have similar challenges which gives me the energy and insight to carry on and not give up. I may not always comment on the notes make stupid excuses for myself. Thank you all!
  • Interesting thread. It confirms my decision to take a break until after the 1st of the year before lowering carbs again. Lost 35 lbs relatively easy with lchf, then a stall...decided that the stall was a sign to relax. I'm still watching and logging, but not obsessed, since I view this woe as my new way of life.
  • The depression you feel may have to do with something else that is not in sync with your needs (physical as well as mental), resulting from a lack of exercise, or as in a vitamin deficiency of some kind...Vita D, B12, iron - or maybe it is the withdrawal from all that processed stuff you may have been eating before???…
  • Interesting question...wonder if turkey bacon is a possible substitute or is just too processed to be used? I don't eat pork either as a personal preference and try not to mix milk/meat - I may not lose weight as quickly as others on LCHF, but the weight is still going down. Have you looked at some of the week one menus in…
  • Years ago a doctor told me that for every 15 pounds I had gained, it was another cup size - now that I'm post-menopausal (and 36 pounds lighter) I'm still a DDD but hoping that exercise and more weight loss will reduce my bra size further.
  • Knew by posting this I 'd get other points of view which is important to me.
  • What is vegeta and mince? A spice or a typo? The recipe sounds great.
  • Sign me up for sweetener free sept. I eat very little sugar (except for the cookie I ate last night!), but need to see how I adapt to no artificially sweetened ice tea ( arizona ginseng & other brands) and the occasional diet soda, which I know is terrible.
  • I've been off mfp this week while on vacation, and am thrilled to read your goal reaching post. Outstanding news. I have been away from the scale all week, so regardless of what I weigh in the morning, I know that I will get back on track by rereading Dan's terrific posts - great for increasing my knowledge and for…
