  • @shanaber I'm glad to hear from you as well. I'm so sorry about your cancer diagnosis. It's hard to be derailed by such serious health issues and so hard to build back up strength and endurance. Well done in keeping as active as you have. I certainly hope for you to meet all your goals, especially being healthy in 2024.…
  • Hi @quilteryoyo! Great to see you. Happy new year. I just signed up for the half for the race my friend is doing for her 50th state marathon. The Clarence DeMar in Keene NH on September 29. That should give me a kick in the pants after my surgical recovery to get back to at least being consistent enough with running so I…
  • Hello friends! For those I know, good to check in and see you still here and plugging away, at whatever level you can. Hello to new people who have joined in the last few months and are joining in a new year. It's a great and supportive group that I've missed. So, 2023 wasn't a great year and I fell off the running habit…
  • Mmm, gelato. My goal is to, once medically cleared, log some running miles in July. It will be late July and it will not be a lot, but it will happen! In the meantime, continue daily walks, add in some lower body strength, and some non-impact light(ish) cardio at least 2x a week.
  • Wonderful! Thank you @spl8! I am looking forward to it. @qwerty9134 welcome. I'm recovering from a couple of surgeries and several more months of stress and lack of motivation and am basically back on that couch too. C25k is a great way to get going, and I might try it again (I did several years ago when I first started…
  • @chris_in_cal I feel like I would excel in a sleep challenge :) I've always needed a lot of sleep and I often get into bed pretty early. But I often take my laptop and phone with me so I know that's not good. Nice job making your June goal @martaindale. Sorry it was a rough one to end on. Enjoy your rest day.
  • @Teresa502 I love to run to explore in a new place too. Looks lovely there. Hope you are having a great time. Thanks for the tips on Cologne @Laurz9191 and @Teresa502! I will definitely be going to the cathedral, that's on the schedule of excursions including a performance by the girls' choir. And an optional brewery tour…
  • Nice running @kgirlhart. Hope your mom has a lovely birthday at the B&B. Stella and I went for a walk after work today. I was hoping to beat the rain (and my Accuweather forecast said we had at least 60 minutes) but no luck. Of course it started raining when we were at the farthest point from home on our usual route, so we…
  • @Teresa502 ooh I would love to visit Portugal. The pics look amazing (especially the food :)) Enjoy! @AlphaHowls I'm so sorry to hear about your mom declining. It is so incredibly difficult and stressful to go through. Please try to take care of yourself. @martaindale enjoy your alone time this week. Hope your knee feels…
  • Thanks @Laurz9191! I must have missed a sausage race but sounds intriguing :) I think there should be more food-themed races. The best we have around here is a Chocolate Challenge 5k, which I'm not against at all (although kind of melty in the summer). @quilteryoyo sorry to hear you've been struggling with sinus issues.…
  • Hey all. I've just been reading a few pages trying to catch up. I hope the heat is letting up a little for some of you. But, it's summer so here we go I guess. I have been plugging along with walking here. I am not keeping a log but Stella is a constant reminder to me to go for a walk each day. Monday I was off for the…
  • Hi @kgirlhart and @martaindale. Thanks for your good thoughts! Good to see you again. @martaindale enjoy your vacation! I had my post-surgery follow-up today and I feel a mix of encouraged and disappointed. All is healing well, but I need to be more patient. I think because this surgery was so much easier physically on me…
  • Thank you @quilteryoyo, @scott6255, @TheMrWobbly and @Teresa502! Good to "see" you all, and thanks for good thoughts. I am feeling really well and I walked about 5 miles yesterday with Stella. It was a nice cool day and we strolled around the lakes with lots of breaks for wading in and drinking (her, not me). I did not…
  • Well, I disappeared again and life continues to be interesting to say the least. I had at least gotten back to running about 3 miles at a time on weekends. Not yet back to more consistent running during the week, mainly due to the mental/motivation struggle. I did start back with strength training at the gym, doing private…
  • @quilteryoyo I got my car! I love it so much, and certainly am very appreciative after over a month without. I'm a little protective about it right now (understandably) but I did have to take Stella for a ride to daycare this morning. I firmly demanded she sit only in her dogbed on the seat and not run around the car like…
  • @AlphaHowls holy crap! I was thinking how are you only "proficient" and then I opened that link. There are people who have run every day for 50+ years!?!? I'm sure that very few on that list run the amount of miles you do every day though. You are way beyond proficient. That list blows my mind. I don't have my new car yet,…
  • Hi friends. I disappeared again at the end of April. My return to running announcement was a bit premature :) It was not a physical setback, just a combination of wimping out due to lots of days of cold rain, being out of the regular running habit and tired from being back to work full time, and not having a car (still) to…
  • So my news is that I actually RAN! I had another follow-up with my surgeons Thursday and Friday in Boston and I was given the all clear to start back up with my regular activities! Everything is healing very well and one doctor said that it looked like healing-wise I was several months out from surgery instead of just 5…
  • @polskagirl01 oh gosh I love that and the memory of @PastorVincent. Good to see you - as I've been absent too I didn't know about everything you've been doing to try to improve your health issues due to long COVID. Hugs to you. I'm sorry it's taking such a toll and hope you can get back to more normalcy and better health.…
  • @martaindale and @eleanorhawkins I'm sorry to hear about the struggles with depression and anxiety. It's so hard these days for kids it seems but I'm glad that they have you as parents who help and support. @quilteryoyo I think you asked a page or two back what kind of snakes I was seeing on my walk. Harmless little garter…
  • Who flipped the switch to summer? It has be 80+ degrees here in upstate NY the last two days. I don't mind except that there is not enough shade in the woods as the leaves aren't out yet. Stella and I were hot on our walks. There were a few creeks to cool off in for yesterday's walk but today was too hot for Stella's…
  • @martaindale love the flowers. Not seeing a whole lot yet here but noticed the trillium are starting to emerge from the ground along the trails. I always love spotting the first blooms of those in the spring. I did see a few dandelions out though. @quilteryoyo good goal to set a 5k PR. I agree there are a ton of plans out…
  • Happy Sunday. It's sunny out but still chilly here. It's supposed to keep climbing up this week and end up maybe even 80 degrees by next weekend. Which sounds good compared to the cold and wind we've had the last few days. Anyway, I'm not tracking super carefully but I know that I have walked every day at least once.…
  • @quilteryoyo you are having some busy and challenging times as well! Hope your car issues get resolved without too much expense. I will add a little to my offerings to the car gods for yours as well  Cutie pie grandkids! @eleanorhawkins your trail running is awesome and always full of adventure (whether it's fun…
  • Hi all, welcome to April. My goal is to walk every day. I will revisit whether to start tracking and increasing miles but for now, it's just getting out there every day. Report so far is that yesterday I had a lovely walk with a few of my runner friends. The weather was an insane rollercoaster of thunderstorms in the early…
  • Thanks for the many supportive messages. Each day gets a little easier. I'm trying to walk as much as possible but am not strictly logging it right now. I'm reluctant or nervous to get back to that feeling of having to document and add up miles. So for right now, just trying to walk every day for whatever the distance.…
  • Hi all. I'm home recovering from my surgery on Tuesday. Everything went well and I've been feeling ok, keeping on top of the pain with a whole range of pain meds. I was able to get up and walk very quickly and it got easier the more times I made the stroll to the restrooms (quite a long ways in the recovery unit I…
  • @shanaber at this time, they don't think I will need radiation or chemo, which is such good news. It all depends on the final pathology during surgery though so that could change. I am hopeful. Glad your toenail procedure went well. My sister had bunion surgery and was really happy she did. I think it would be worth it to…
  • Thanks for the warm welcome back and your support. Great to hear from you again, and some new faces. I've missed hearing what everyone is up to. @Teresa502 Great job on your race. I remember you talking about that one before. It sounds like a cool event and I can imagine it being a blast. You kept up a good pace for…
  • Hello my friends! If anyone still remembers me - so sorry I dropped off completely for so long. I was kind of burned out and lacking motivation, and then life gets in the way and here we are. I am happy to see some of the familiar folks are still here and doing their thing. Thank you @shanaber and @quilteryoyo for…
