  • @bmeadows380 INGREDIENTS 1 large egg plus 1 egg white 60 g (2 oz) polenta ½ teaspoon salt 150 ml (5 fl oz) sour cream 150 g (5 oz) corn kernels, fresh or tinned 2 spring onions, sliced 12 oysters, out of the shell (drain off juice) butter or oil for frying 1 tablespoon finely sliced chives METHOD Mix egg and white with…
  • I love walking. I've always been a team sports player but my knees have given up so I can't play hockey any more, or softball. I've started squash recently and that's fun...I have a tournament this weekend but my progress already is affected by my knees. Walking is fab. It's my alone time and my outside time. I'm…
  • Link here if anyone is interested https://app.ckbk.com/recipe/worl10873c01s001r014/sweetcorn-and-oyster-fritters-with-sour-cream-and-chives
  • Sweetcorn fritters made with fresh sweetcorn, polenta, eggs and sour cream. It's a Peter Gordon recipe if you can be bothered to look it up (kiwi chef....famous here!) that he does with oysters. I do mine without oysters but come oyster season I'm going to get some. Such a great recipe and for gluten-free people it's…
  • I'm not 100% sure I understand the premise being argued but I'm thinking that if you want both the ice cream and the cookies you could earn them both by exercising and getting extra calories to spend? But I seem to remember WW not liking you to exercise in order to eat...you could only eat a certain number of exercise…
  • Courgettes. Grated, liquid squeezed out and then mixed with an egg and garlic for a a courgette fritter. One decent sized courgette will give three or four fritters. Freshly ground black pepper and you've got a quick lunch.
  • I've tried to re-introduce ice cream into my diet recently but every time I've eaten it, it's made me throw up. Tried a different brand tonight and it happened again. That's three times in the last week. Weird. Only happened with ice cream. And I only throw up the ice cream. Oh well. Guess it's not really a bad thing. Not…
  • Found it hard-going with the swimming today. Probably because I didn't sleep well last night and I'm exhausted. But I still went and did 45 minutes. Pre-booking is a good way to ensure you actually go. Considered a brief walk afterwards but it was still really hot at 7pm and I really couldn't get the motivation. Plus I was…
  • We bought my parents (English by birth) an ancestry DNA kit for their Christmas present. It will be interesting to see the results. My children's would also be interesting given that my husband is African...his father's ancestors were driven north by Shaka Zulu but his mother believes her family originally came from West…
  • @bmeadows380 I'm envious! Nothing better than picking fruit you've grown yourself. Our staff often bring fruit in to swap or gift. I'll sometimes find a huge bag of lemons or limes in my pigeonhole with an empty jar... someone giving fruit in return for a jar of lemon curd or marmalade or whatever I make with it.
  • I love lentil moussaka. Eggplant is one of my favourite vegetables and they're relatively cheap at the moment. My Dad sent me up a box of nectarines and apricots he grew... they've introduced a new overnight service especially for Stone fruit from the town he lives in, in the south island. So I've been making a goats…
  • Does anyone have the opposite? I feel really good, feel so much fitter and my clothes fit well, I'm fitting smaller sizes but then I see my reflection or a picture and I think - am I still that big? I've still got a way to go, but really? Surely I should be waaaay smaller by now!
  • I've joined the gym and I've used the endless pool three times over the last week. So excited to see the progress already. I book it for an hour and do a range of things...freestyle, backstroke, aquajogging. I started last week and managed 5 minutes of freestyle at a time before I had to switch to backstroke for a rest.…
  • Feeling pretty low today. My oldest is heading back overseas on Sunday, possibly permanently, will be back in May for a fleeting visit for Nationals then off again. He came home for the weekend and has just headed back up north... we've only seen him for a week since he came back Xmas Eve. (He's living and training in…
  • Totally agree. My first walks were as much a mental challenge just to start walking as they were physical. Joined the gym this week. Finally! I have been given a decent upper body workout. My knee has been troubling me so I'm trying the recumbent bike and aqua jogging for cardio (just want a change from walking). Did the…
  • Soup! Lots of low-cal heart warming, hand warming soup.
  • My pasta recipe is 1egg for 1cup flour and it's always worked well. I do like polenta and often make it instead of rice, I just make it with a stock instead of water. I have made it into chips and fried it, bit I prefer it loose...a bit like a mashed potato consistency.
  • @bmeadows380 make the dough! It's awesome. Stretching it out so it's really thin. I've done it a few times and really enjoyed it. It's ok if you get a few holes because when you roll up the strudel it covers it up.
  • Ha ha sorry....we don't have grits in NZ but we do have polenta. Except it's very yellow, not at all like the picture in the previous post. I wondered if it was similar to the ground maize meal we had as a staple in Zambia called Nshima. (We don't have cream of wheat either as far as I know.)
  • I have started play squash which I'm enjoying but my knee doesn't! So I don't play as often as I'd like. But I've entered my first tournament in about a month's time so that's going to be interesting. I walk most days and really enjoy it now. Didn't at the beginning. And I'm joining a gym to weight train and do yoga. I do…
  • Congratulations @conniewilkins56 . I've bitten the bullet and joined the gym. Have an assessment next Wednesday. They have an infinity pool where I can swim with no-one watching ( hopefully my eczema behaves) , yoga at times that suit, and free new programs every 6 weeks. So I'm going to start strength training, swimming…
  • @astidog99 funny how they stop your chocolate craving! Yeah, there's something about the flavours that hits the right note. I learned a lot when I was over there and I'm reading lots about it now and experimenting. I'm not good with hot spices but I love flavourful spice. I made an amazing biriyani tonight. Definitely a…
  • My overnight oats recipe uses apple juice instead of milk, otherwise it's the same as @papayahed 's...minus the peanut butter. I also grate some apple into it just before eating, and add some plain yoghurt too. I probably have a higher proportion of oats as well. My son loves raisins in his.
  • The new school year is about to begin so I'm finding I'm sitting working a lot more than I was a few weeks ago. I have a load of planning and writing to do. My NEAT is definitely suffering. My goal for the next two weeks is to use my standing desk as much as possible.
  • Walking late in the evening with the sun at such an angle that it elongates your shadow and makes you look thin!
  • I need to learn more about Mexican cooking. And Spanish. I love their flavours. Do you make your own enchilada sauce?
  • You don't need to exercise straight away. Sort out your calories first and make small changes as you go. Don't worry about adding in extra exercise until you have the food/calorie allotment working. You will lose weight through calorie counting alone, and the exercise can come later. And be patient. Take it slowly, making…
  • I've realized that I need to walk if I want my weightloss to be maximised. I've changed my exercise routine recently and included a range of other activities but my losses are always better when I include more walking. It's possible that my NEAT goes down when I do something else (squash/tennis) as I do get tired and my…
  • Really enjoying being back at home after 3 weeks away. Feel so much more in control, which makes everything so much easier. Have walked every day (only 3 days, but still!) and haven't eaten any meat yet! After 3 weeks of meat at every main meal (other than my one vegetarian curry) it's been great to get back to my own…
