  • Half hour of reading daily - I have done and actually exceeded that, which is making my vacation much more enjoyable. That OTHER project - not started yet; I think I should be able to make some forward progress on it this coming week.
  • Tell that to the families of people who have committed suicide after being bullied. http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/content/bullying-and-suicide.html
  • @retirehappy Love the before and after pix, very inspiring!!
  • I agree that not all carbs are the same - I take into account how much fiber I am getting along with any carbs I consume. I use the Glycemic Load List & Glycemic Index, which will which foods are best for having minimal impact on blood sugar. Right now I am aiming for staying under 60 grams of carbs per day, most of my…
  • On the theme of "Greater Happiness" - I would like to recommend a book I got from the library and just starting reading: Hardwiring Happiness: The New Brain Science of Contentment, Calm, and Confidence by Rick Hanson. The author explains that our brains are wired to learn quickly from bad experiences, but not so much from…
  • I had it bad and two things cleared it up for good - wearing orthotics in my shoes (I no longer need them) and - rolling my feet over a rolling pin, back and forth. Did that every night as recommended by one of my physical therapists and it really helped.
  • Welcome, @0ysterboy - I have to say, I don't run but I do cross-country ski. Off season I use a ski machine. I also like the elliptical machine for offering a challenge which doesn't hurt my knees.

  • I have 3 suggestions for low-carb breakfasts you can carry... once you can't take any more hard-boiled eggs. Hopefully you are not allergic to nuts... These are designed to be filling. (1) Soak chia seeds overnight in No Sugar added Vanilla almond milk and add some cinnamon. I usually put 12 g of chia in 4 oz. almond milk…
  • Your future self is going to be thanking you for this incredible year of 2018. Kudos!!
  • Perfect timing - I just got a book from the library today, Hardwiring Happiness by neuropsychologist Rick Hanson. It's about how our brains are hard-wired to focus on and learn quickly from negative experiences and not so much from the good ones: "It's an ancient survival mechanism that turned the brain into Velcro for the…
  • What I am grateful for tonight is the rescue of the 12 boys and their coach from that cave in Indonesia. I was amazed to read that, "Each arduous round-trip extraction took between nine and 11 hours." What dedication, what an accomplishment. And to think one of the pumps failed and the cave was flooded just as they were…
  • Fabulous commitment and endurance, simply mahhhvelous!
  • Way to go! There are lots of successful keto folks in the Low Carbers group...
  • Fortunately wearing a brace on my ankle is enabling me to start walking again. The down side is, my dog is so old that she has become the slug when it comes to movement! So I have to get out there on my own and put some time in without a leash in hand. I definitely also need some strength training as my recent blood work…
  • Well done, Janet! Sorry to hear what a trial you have been through but, great work using IF to overcome your circumstances! Have you heard of cold laser therapy? It's low-level laser ... you might look into it for your knees. We are having our dog treated with it now, as our vet recommended it to us for her arthritic hips…
  • The weather has been challenging, to say the least... we got about 17 inches of snow yesterday... but the March sun will be working on it in short order, no doubt. My ankle, unfortunately, is actually worse. I continue to tape it, gently follow the exercises given to me by PT, and walking is very limited. On the dietary…
  • Hi @shellzbellz - you are off to a great March! ~ Kathy
  • Oh, yeah! This is what my mother told me about 55 years ago, and I forgot! Thanks for the reminder. I also want to try steaming them in a steamer basket. Great suggestions, people!
  • You've made a great step by showing up here on MFP. There's a lot of information and support available here. Every day is a new day, and every decision you make can be a decision that takes you where you want to go.
  • I don't know, I could go for a little more snow than we had this winter. And then there's that warm air - last week it got up to about 64 degrees and I said, that's it: this is the perfect temperature, it shouldn't get any higher. Alas, but it will. So Spring is good but it's inevitably followed by Summer :# >:) Ok, so ONE…
  • Cut into pieces, blanch and freeze. In case you are unfamiliar with blanching, see http://www.pickyourown.org/freezing_cauliflower.htm
  • How many do-overs? As many as it takes to reach your current goals! And then you can set new goals. :)
  • Love the breathing theme!! And I am going out right now to make sure the dog gets her exercise. ;)
  • Persistence over time is what works - congrats on your return!
  • Belated Happy Valentines to all! Actually, my husband and I have decided that this year, we are celebrating the 12 days of Valentines --- and recognizing something wonderful about our relationship each day. We are also sharing things we would like to release or change. If there can be 12 days of Xmas, why not Valentines? <3
  • OK, two goals for February: (1) Walk every day (2) Meet my carb goal every day. It's a short month - so I have a better chance of reaching my goals, don't I? ;) I have some other plans, such as: (a) Do a complete fast one day this month; and (b) Have an IF day at least one day a week. My window is 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.…
  • Re: the link on Amazon shown by @prgirl39mfp for the folding scale, it says, "Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." Here's one on Amazon which I think may be the one shown by @PinkyPan1…
