  • 1,835 consecutive days for me. Unfortunately, just logging calories doesn't cause weight loss. I've gained back 40 of the 85lbs lost over the last several years. Yep, it's right there in the calorie count - easy to see why. I'd like to think I would have gained it ALL back if I hadn't remained with MyFitnessPal. Time to…
  • Yes, I've adjusted calories down as I've lost weight. My main problem things have slowed down is that I'm eating too many calories. My goal is 1800. I've averaged around 2,000 over the last year. My TDEE is down to 2,200, so I just need to do a better job.
  • 1,974 calories over? That's terrible! You must not have tried hard enough. I didn't weigh this morning, but I was a good 2,500 calories over goal. It had something to do with having firsts (and seconds) of all three pies.
  • I used to drink 3 or 4 cans of regular Coke per day. I forced myself to switch to Coke Zero - first by pouring half of regular with half of diet into a glass. It wasn't too long before I liked the taste of Coke Zero better and haven't had a regular soft drink in a couple of years. I've lost a little over 80lbs in the last…
  • I think it's motivational when I overeat and see that if I keep that up for 5 weeks I'll gain 15lbs.
  • This website has got to be the most "buggy" website I've ever been on. I swear over the last couple of years it only works maybe 60%-70% of the time. And I'm a premium member if that matters. Probably doesn't. Very frustrating.
  • If you have heart disease, you should probably just let someone else shovel the snow. Cold weather, in general, puts more pressure on the heart. Adding strenuous snow shoveling on top is a disaster waiting to happen. My latest edition of the Harvard Heart Letter just had a pretty convicing case for avoiding it. If you're…
  • Thanks, but I'm the lucky one!
  • I'm an old guy, married 40 years, so what I think probably won't be of interest to a 20-something. I used to be young (and thin) once. When DW and I were in our early 20's we were both in great shape and physically attracted to each other. Over the years, we both put on some weight (me more than her). We remained attracted…
  • FWIW, I've averaged 2,200 calories the last 4 months and haven't lost any weight. I'm also a 5'10" guy and weigh 230. Over the first 8 months, I averaged 1,700 calories and lost 65lbs. My TDEE is around 2,200, so I've got to get down in the 1,800 range to lose any weight and it's especially hard after losing quite a bit…
  • No, I've never kept track this long before. I plan to keep on doing it. Still have another 30-40lbs to go, so another year should do it. Just need to get back on track and get those calories back under 2,000 (on average).
  • Is there a reason you want/need to cut out sweets? If not, why bother? I tried doing a lowish carb (100grams) diet early on, but quickly decided it just wasn't worth it to me. I'm old (60) and life is too short to feel deprived all of the time. So, if I want cake, I eat it. I have ice cream almost every night. Bag of M&M's…
  • The only thing lying is your "reliable" scale. No way you gained 6 lbs and your water weight decreased 2%.
  • I recently went on a 10 day vacation and ate everything in sight. I decided I just wasn't going to worry about what I ate while on vacation. I did keep track of everything - and it was ugly. Got home. Gained 10lbs in 10 days! Ugh! But, according to my TDEE calculations, I should have only gained about 2lbs. Sure enough,…
  • In the 245 days that I've logged all food, my highest day has been 3,450. Before that, I'm sure I had some 6K-7K days. I'm taking a diet break for 8 days starting Saturday while we go on vacation, so I'm sure I'll break that 3,450 record since every meal will be eating out. Still, I plan on logging everything and will get…

  • I noticed you already got 5 "woos" on your honest question about "woos". Welcome to MFP, the "woo" capital of the world! Personally, I think if someone "woos" something said, there should be a requirement that they have to explain why they used their "woo" power. Of course, some people will "woo" just about anything. I…
  • If this stupid stomach bug doesn't go away soon, I might meet my Easter goal this week. Ugh!
  • I'm in! Might be tough since I'm going on vacation for a week during this time period - and taking a diet break. Beginning weight 295 Challenge Starting Weight 240 Challenge Goal Weight 230
  • Made it! Challenge Goal was 240 and ended at 239.8 for a loss of 16.2lbs. Now on to the next challenge, whatever that may be.
  • I'm on week 30 of my diet. I've had 4 diet breaks ranging from 3 days to 7 days. I averaged over 2,000 calories for the entire week of those 4 diet breaks. I gained weight each of those weeks. The other 26 weeks, I've been under 1,800 calories. I've lost weight every one of those 26 weeks. I'm starting to see a pattern.…
  • Also, the scales themselves can be unreliable. My last scale would show a 1lb difference depending on if I got on it putting my right foot first vs. left foot. So, in order to get a consistent reading I had to weigh the same time everyday, leave the scale in one place and not move it, AND always step on with my left foot…
  • I set mine at 204lbs which is 1 pound under obese. I'd be thrilled to be only "overweight". Got 40lbs left to get there. Last time I was that low was 40 years ago (age 20). Once I get there, I'll probably shoot for 195 just to be able to say I'd lost 100lbs, but I don't have to be a "normal" BMI to be happy.
  • At my high weight I had about 100lbs to lose. I think family started noticing at about 30lbs. I've lost 50lbs (or half of what I need) and more people are noticing. Yesterday, I went to the dentist for my 6 month cleaning, and the first thing my hygienist asked was how much weight had I lost. But, even after losing 1/2 of…
  • Not me. I only lasted 10 days before I got bored and missed my carby foods. I decided it wasn't worth it and went back to just eating what I want and tracking calories - which worked to the tune of 55lbs lost during the last 7 months. Can't live without my Mexican food and ice cream!

  • The 8 days from Christmas Eve until New Years day I gained 7 lbs. I'm not exactly sure how that happened other than I ate everything in sight. I did keep track of the calories during that period and it wasn't pretty (over 3,000 per day). But, I'm glad to report that I lost those 7 pounds and a few more since then. Back on…
  • I was more or less just kidding around and would never correct a post, but based on my 20 years of reading finance (and more recently weight loss) boards, the lose/loose error has to be the most common of all.
  • I would pay if MFP could somehow autofix the "lose vs loose" problem. ;)
  • I agree. By "deciding", I'm assuming one does the best due diligence they can do with their given level of ability. I've read tons of studies. Many seem to be very plausible and well controlled with few conflicts of interest. Others are often selling a book - which I tend to discount to some degree. But, in the end, we…
