  • This is what I do too. I don't travel super frequently, at least not to exotic locations - usually it's to see family and eating homemade food, just not prepared by me. Still, though, even if imprecise I've been able to be close enough to stay on track. As summer approaches there will be a lot of barbecues and other…
  • No good deed goes unpunished, apparently, because now it's even more of a mess than I originally thought! In the winter challenge I had posted a link to the new thread before @jedaschultz created the new one. In other challenge threads I have participated in there's no one dedicated host, just whoever gets…
  • Do you have a kind of exercise you like to do? Or another activity? I like to run, so improving my pace, or going a longer distance than I have previously, is a fun goal to set. I also have a list of hikes I'd like to do, which is more of a "bucket list" type thing but it's much easier to go hiking when I'm not overweight.…
  • Besides my weight goal (right now 135 lbs, which is the midpoint of the healthy BMI range so seems as good a place to be as not, might revise it later), I'd like to be fit enough that I could pass the US Army fitness test for females 32-36 (my sex and age bracket). I'd like to work back up to an average 15k steps per day,…
  • I've always done what is called in some circles "baby led weaning," though IMO it's really "I don't feel like doing extra or paying extra for specialized baby food." Basically, baby sits at the table/on my lap and is offered safe food from the same things everyone else is having, maybe cut up or mashed a little more than…
  • Two weeks is not very long, and as kshama mentions you don't have a lot to lose so it will take time. If you have regular menstrual cycles (i.e. don't use hormonal contraception or aren't experiencing amenhorrea for another reason) your weight will naturally fluctuate based on where you are in your cycle, too. You can…
  • Hey @jedaschultz sorry I jumped the gun; I posted a new challenge a couple of days ago. I can ask mods to combine the threads, maybe?
  • In general I have found MFPers to be very level headed in how they approach health and weight loss (which is why I've stuck around!) "Improving the odds" is a very good way to put it. I do see evidence in general of the "magic thinking" which treats various foods or behaviors as a talisman against whatever issue. It's an…
  • Wait, how do you do that?! Yes, OP, I'm not sure what posts you are referring to but my guess is that if they were reported and not removed, they didn't actually violate the guidelines. That doesn't make the situation not stink, though, and I hope you can work it out.
  • Honestly, I would start by just accurately measuring what you already eat. For weight loss, you can still eat what you normally do, just less of it. Once I started weighing my food, I realized I just didn't like certain foods enough for how much of my "calorie budget" they took up, so I quit eating them. Others I really…
  • I'm not sure what you are speaking of. You only have one post on the forums. Maybe by this point something has been removed? While someone who knows me already could probably stumble onto the forums and figure out who I am, I generally don't post a lot of identifying information on the Internet. I don't post my real name…
  • I'd be happy to support you! I will likely have another baby, heh, but I would like to reach my goal weight first this time which would mean longer spacing than I have previously had if I want to lose at a good rate. My big issue (which is typical for me in pregnancy) is that I get very fatigued and my activity slows way…
  • Wow, I actually did not know that at all. For anyone else who is curious about this: this link has some interesting information about skin conditions related to diabetes. Some of the pictures are probably not for the very squeamish. I don't personally have this but I have observed it in others. It sounds like it can be…
  • I think three little kids was absolutely the hardest. When my third was born, my oldest was 4.5. My youngest three are now 5, 2.5, and almost 9 months, but I also have three older kids and it's totally different because the big three can do a lot of things on their own and help out with the littles. I can go to the store…
  • One issue I see sometimes (and have experienced to some degree myself) is that people who are obese give up, when it isn't necessary. There's an element of learned helplessness that I think can be overcome. "I'm fat so why exercise?" when you can absolutely learn how. I said this once on the forums a long time ago but one…
  • Six pounds is better than none! February was comparatively bad for me this challenge but I was able to pick it up in March. You can do it! I've taken the liberty of starting a new spring challenge here. Same format. :) Hope to see you all there!

  • @jedaschultz I am so, so sorry for your loss. I will be keeping you and your DH in my prayers. <3
  • When I eat popcorn, it's dinner. :joy: It's a lot of volume compared to other foods, but yeah, I eat it with butter and salt. Sometimes nutritional yeast too, which also ups the calories. Worth it, IMO, as a once in a while treat. I don't like the prepopped kind nearly as much as fresh.
  • My tracker doesn't always get the steps because my hands are pushing the stroller, but really, walking with the kids is great. I use a sit and stand stroller where the infant seat can click into the front, and the next two small children can take turns in the back portion. Am I really fast? No. But that's ok. @StaciInGa…
  • I rarely take anything for colds anymore, just fluids and rest (while most are probably ok, a lot of cold medicines are considered potentially risky while pregnant or breastfeeding, so I'm just not in the habit of thinking to take something.) When my head feels "full" I get a lot of relief from standing in a hot shower,…
  • This is just an intuitive guess, so maybe way off, but it would seem to me that the benefits of juicing might be best for people who are trying to gain weight, because you get the calories and some of the micronutrients but not the bulk of the food that would make you feel (as) full. I've never really found juice or liquid…
  • My calories are based on TDEE based on my own data, so not how MFP is supposed to work (where you eat exercise calories back), but I am less hungry when I am more active and get to eat more. I don't think, on its own, that deliberate exercise makes me feel more hungry. I think my "natural" hunger signals correspond with a…

  • Pickles are indeed amazing. I don't think they need anything, but they definitely amp up my enjoyment of a lot of other foods. I like to pickle more than just cucumbers, too - I enjoy quick refrigerator pickles made with radishes, carrots, and zucchini. I tend to pair low calorie veggies with small amounts of high calorie…
  • What about meal prepping seems difficult? Maybe some posters here can offer some suggestions. Do you cook already at all?
  • How are you defining "plateau?" Usually, the answer is you've slipped into maintaining instead of weight loss. If that's the answer, you can begin losing again by: A) more precise logging B) Eating less C) Moving more Often doing A will lead to B. If your "plateau" has only been a couple of weeks, then you should wait…
  • Yep, give it a couple more weeks and see what happens. Due to entirely normal and fine water weight fluctuations, the scale might not always reveal fat loss right away. If your exercise regimen is new and you're feeling sore, you might have some extra water retention from that but it will sort itself out. It's hard but…
  • If you already know what day you plan on eating them, you could go ahead and log them for that day and then just adjust the amount as needed. I usually prelog the night before, but sometimes have logged items several days in advance. As you continue to log those items will show up in your "recent" food list. I find logging…
