  • So, news not withstanding, July was a slow month, what with getting hurt, my back, and extreme heat, 9 runs for 40 miles. Now on to increased base building for my first marathon in 2021

  • From the Marathon web site: "After significant consideration of the state guidelines, talks with members of our community and city officials, and review of our course, the Atlantic City Marathon Race Series has made the difficult decision to cancel the in - person versions of our races for the remainder of 2020." On to…

  • Thanks, it is surprising how easy it is to get down on yourself.
  • Week end update: 4 runs ( 5, 3, 3.5 and 7.16) total of 18.70. That back mishap has me behind my program, the long run should have been 10 miles. Perhaps once the extra exercises, core and leg, kick in I'll stop feeling like I'm regressing. October is still on,as in we haven't been told it's cancelled. Caught between doing…
  • IMO joining a gym is your best option. Depending on their monthly dues, you really can't beat the quality and variety of equipment available for the cost. This was my decision when looking for a cardio machine to use when it was either too hot or too icy to run outdoors. $21 a month for RetroFitness or $3,000+ for a good…
  • This one: https://www.acraceseries.com/event-information It's a yearly event in October. I've been told that a decision is pending and that all registrants will be notified via e mail when it is made. I guess no news is good news. The one for which I registered was always scheduled for October. Not sure about the one…
  • [quote="threeyears2024; @sgt1372 @pondee629 @bdelaney33 @steveko89 @Covidcantstopme @slunburg I am going to look into adjustable dumbbells. Since they start from 5 pound, I was thinking I probably am not that strong on shoulder. Truth be told, the PowerBloclks I have have 2.5# inserts to make then very adjustable. you can…
  • I like the PowerBlock adjustable dumbbells. They come in several ranges and can be added to as you progress. (or not)
  • "What do you do when you just don't feel the motivation of exercising daily?" I do my regularly scheduled workout. Never regretted doing a workout, always regretted missing one. The reason for doing so never seems to justify being lazy. Now, if there is a VALID reason, injury, scheduled rest day, life gets in the way in a…
  • Heat not as much as the humidity. I do slow down when it's hot and humid. More so when it's humid.
  • As previously reported I hurt my back Wednesday July 1. Since then, for the week ending July 10, I did two runs of 3 (Thursday the 9th) and 6 miles (Saturday). Hoping to get back on track and stay there. Feeling better, though a little sore. Core exercises have been re-introduced. Thanks to LoveyChar and heybales for their…

  • Updating for the month of June on my way to the Atlantic City marathon in October, 18 runs, 71 total miles, a long run of 7 miles. However, after the last run of the month (4 miles) I strained my back taking a glass out of the dish washer. Kinda sucks getting older. Going to be off the road for several days until the back…
  • And, later, after a 4 mile run, while taking a glass out of the dishwasher, I hurt my back. Seems like I pulled muscles and didn't do anything more serious. But, I'll be taking it easy for several days.
  • The month of June has ended thusly: 18 runs; 71 miles; long run of 7. The beat goes on to October.
  • Week 14/2; 4 runs; 3.5, 3.5, 3.5 and the long run of 7 miles for a total of 17.5. Though it sometimes feels like I'm hardly moving, I am trying to keep my heart rate in the easy/aerobic zones (2&3) with varing degrees of success. I don't know why I feel better in zone 4, about 140-150 bpm, but just can't keep that up. So,…
  • " what’s an impressive weight for my height/weight."? Better than yesterday, not as good as tomorrow.
  • And week 13, or the first week of the 18 week novice Marathon training plan, is in the books: 4 runs; 3.5 miles, 3.6, 3.4 and the long run of 6 for a total of 16.5. Working on that easy pace in an effort to be able to cover the distance. Sure is getting hot and humid.
  • Planning on sticking with Higdon's Novice Marathon Training Program until I hear. And if I don't hear, I'll have stuck to the training plan. Never have I gone over 13.1 miles, so...
  • Got word that the Woolworth double I was thinking about doing on Labor Day, September 7, (moved from Memorial Day), has been cancelled. I'm running out of prep races before the October Marathon. If that stays up.
  • Just received an e mail that my planned Woolworth double for Labor Day, Sept 7, has been cancelled. That was my best hope for a trial race before the Marathon. With that gone, I'm wondering if the Marathon in October will stay.
  • Well week 12, and the base building of my Novice Supreme Marathon Plan is over. For the week (Number 12) 4 runs: 3 miles, 3.2, 3.45 & 6. 15.75 total for the week. Higdon's Novice Marathon Training starts next week, Monday, (today) graduation from base building. Hoping the October race stays on. We now start to seriously…

  • Sometimes people worry that you're sick.
  • Virtual races seem to me to be nothing more than a fast training run. The Atlantic City NJ Marathon is still on for October 18 so I'm still training for something. Kinda looking for an intermediate run to gauge my improvement, but we will have to see. A neighboring town has moved their Memorial Day races to Labor Day, Sept…
  • Week 11: Four runs; 3.5, 3.1,3.5 and 4.4 a total of 14.5 for the week. The last "long" run was in 80*f and 80% humidity. Sumer is here. Walked some of that one. One more week until the training period kicks in.
  • My Garmin wrist Heart rate monitor frequently has my heart rate at over 180 before my runs. After several minutes it drops to 125, or so, then reports what I would expect. But, it does not instill much confidence in the numbers.
  • I'm constrained to answer for just this reason, the jinx.
