  • My doctor was very concerned over my BP and my strong family history of heart disease. She went back through my notes from previous doctors and said my BP had been high. She wanted to try a nutritional/exercise approach before going to medication (I dislike medication also). In 30 days my BP was normal as well as my bpm.…
  • I've done the same thing, went down to even 10lbs below my goal weight! I was ecstatic! Then I got cocky and would splurge on occasion, then once a week and then even more often. Although I never went back to my original weight, I gained 12lbs back and have been struggling ever since. I know what to do about it but it's…

  • What does NSV stand for? I just read some of these posts and love the message!
  • Your thyroid levels are fine because of the medication. I take the lowest dose of Levothyroxine and my numbers haven't changed after losing weight. The doctor says the numbers are great.
  • I add a protein powder to my oatmeal, non-flavored, and I get 17grams of protein at breakfast.
  • I echo the thrift buy! When I went from a size 12 jean that looked atrocious they were so big, to a size 9 baggy I was shocked! But what a motivator. A few items will get you by and I now wear my thrift clothes for yard/barn work.
  • I haven't gained back a bunch, bouncing between 6-8 lbs, but now is the time to get it under control. I know what happened, I got cocky and started eating things I shouldn't be eating because it was only a few times a week, after all , I had lost 10 under my goal weight without even trying. Boy did that bite me in the…
  • oh and I don't eat dairy anymore, doctor thing.
  • I am 5'3" and just personal experience, I would gain on 2500 calories/day. I like to eat simple, no in depth planning or fixing so I eat a lot of raw veggies and fruit, salad out of a bag with a balsamic vinegar, very little to no bread and don't use boxed meal preps. For protein I eat poached eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken,…
  • You weigh less than me and I'm only 5'3" and I'm not fat. I would be "perfect" if I weighed 125, maybe even skinny? You need to re-evaluate your self-image and stop thinking you are fat because you are not. You're only 18 and your brain is in it's final stages of development, don't damage that by starvation, feed your…
  • Also use combinations of many.
  • Black pepper, anything Mrs. Dash, garlic powder or fresh garlic, onion powder and fresh onion, turmeric, paprika, chili powder, parsley fresh or dried, basil fresh or dried. I've started using fresh jalapeno for a number of homemade dishes. It's endless, just start experimenting and find what you like the best and keep…
  • I have to manage sodium as per doctor and HBP. I ignore sodium content that is naturally occurring, I don't add salt to anything, use Mrs. Dash (many flavors), lots of spices/herbs and stopped using anything that is pre-made. I buy a few canned veg that are labeled 'no salt added'. I read labels and you probably should…
  • Good bread and sweet gooey desserts :(
  • Hello! I've been eating this way (doctors orders) since a year ago February. I feel so much better and no meds!

  • This sounds good! How much olive oil do you use for the marinade and could you do this with Cod?
  • It looks like this Idahoan is a techno-challenged also :# But yes, one in a million!
  • In Lewiston, Idaho at Bojack's Broiler, a bar upstairs, restaurant downstairs they make bite-size steak. They won't give out the recipe, many have tried to duplicate it and therefore many different styles and recipes have evolved. Also in this very local area you can get a Clamdigger. It's a vodka drink like a Bloody Mary…
  • This is where I am at right now and I don't like it. I was under my goal weight just from lifestyle eating changes by doctor advise. I felt good and I felt good about myself. So stopping the eating habits that got me here today (5-8lb gain) is tough because including the few foods that I shouldn't have is too easy. So…
  • I've always kept a stocked pantry since the 70's when I lived in the mountains and a casual run to the store wasn't an option. I never got out of the habit. I'm going to the grocery store about every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks for perishables.
  • I think my mouth made me fat :D
  • I became more healthy, why I don't know. My hair and nails grew like crazy, my skin cleared up and I looked wonderful and I gained 19 lbs. The morning after I gave birth I was 124lbs, I was 139lbs when I got pregnant. No, I wasn't dieting, I was very healthy and my labour was short, 6 hours the first time, 1 hour the…
  • I love rafting and am lucky enough to live there with the Snake, Salmon, Locksaw, Selway and Clearwater rivers within minutes to a few hours of where I live. Now I'm bragging shamelessly too. I'm about to turn 64, still go on the river, often in my open face kayak, many times alone (in the lower Snake) and still ride…
  • I bought some groceries yesterday. I shop once a week and keep the pantry ready. I pick up what ever I'm out of. Bananas Garlic sourdough 100% wheat bread Apples Red pears Romaine Greek yogurt, non-fat vanilla Mushrooms 2 dozen eggs 93% lean burger 93% lean ground turkey Green bell peppers Italian roast beef from the deli…
  • I have a friend that has been doing crossfit for a year now, she is 71. She loves it and goes 5 days a week and wants to go 6. Good for her. She enjoys the social aspect the most. But I finally had to tell her that the stories she tells me about her workouts makes it sound miserable and unpleasant! She is always in pain,…

  • Non-drinkers around regular drinkers makes them uncomfortable and insecure about themselves and their choices, especially if you were one of the 'regulars'. I've been there and pretty much have new friends along with a few that easily accepted that I wasn't drinking anymore, I guess they like me for who I am. A huge…
  • You should be truthfull and forthcoming with your counselor. A counselor only knows and works with what you tell them. They are the confidential receptacle for all of your concerns no matter how 'trivial' you think they are and it's their job to hear any and all complaints and worries. They are there to help you, bottom…
  • Anything John Grisham, I choose by author lately.
  • One thing I learned a long time ago about posting is you must have a thick skin and be prepared to answer questions without being on the defense and so reactive. People want more info before giving a response. It's up to you to take it or leave it but to just say outright that you won't listen and don't want a response if…
