  • i'm a 5'4" 66 year old woman. i've lost 100 pounds post menopause, and in the last year, i've put on muscle and strength. i think most weight loss during and after peri and menopause is about less activity. both women and men i know tend to do less things after 40 or 45 like going dancing, going for hikes, playing sports…
  • it's always been high for me, but it's no higher than usual.
  • When I had leg injuries, I used a good quality pedaler to pedal with my arms. It worked pretty well.
  • don't forget egg whites and whey protein isolate powder.
  • that, too. i've been slowly adding 2 1/2 pounds at a time to my curls, and it's working. i'm about to add a little to my deadlifts, too.
  • for motivation, watch fitness and weight loss videos on youtube, hang out on the forums here, make some fitness pals to chat with throughout the day, and maybe join one of the groups. but without logging, you won't know how many calories you're eating, but you also won't be able to see patterns you can change. hopefully…
  • Many years ago, I tried working out through shin splints. You know what happened? They got much much worse.
  • Going hard after injury but cleared to work out caused me much worse injury that kept me from working out at all for quite a while. Going very hard for people who are new to exercise or in not so great shape can lead to other problems. Going steady at a pace that allows your heart rate to stay reasonable and being able to…
  • I think it's very simple. It's not easy, but it's simple.
  • I've done it both ways, and both ways work as long as you stick to one and just keep doing it that way. It's easy to add to yesterday's calendar if you want to extend the day to three or four in the morning.
  • Is the area still painful or sensitive?
  • I used to use a TENS machine for pain in my shoulder after I tore my rotator cuff. It helped quite a bit. I got turned onto it by my physical therapist, who used to use it during our sessions.
  • you could get a lightweight, collapsible bar that weighs almost nothing and use it with resistance bands on each side for things like squats or barbell curls.
  • It really depends. How much do you weigh, how tall are you? And are you active each day, with a lot of walking or lifting, or do you sit at a desk like I do?
  • get a good quality pedaler and cycle with your hands instead of your feet like a magnetrainer or a deskcycle, or my current one, a bit cheaper, is a yosuda from amazon. i had very good results that way, but don't get one of the $39 ones unless you have patience with uneven scraping and rubbing as you pedal. some people…
  • i agree with your BF. instead of thinking of it as cheating, you could just eat a few less calories per day and use them for those bigger weekend meals - like if you eat 100 less calories per day, you'll have 600 calories budget for a weekend treat. and once in a while, if you go over, it's no big deal. but if you are…
  • certain mineral waters help my tummy - topo chico plain, with pellegrino plain coming in a distant second. i'm guessing one of the minerals or the overall PH is what helps. i assume you've tried pepcid? i also used to drink milk with added calcium, and that seemed to help a lot. i find a lot of herb teas recommended for…
  • i'm a vegetarian, and i was vegan for a couple years. btw, being vegan or vegetarian isn't a guarantee of eating healthy - just meat-free. it's also not a way to lose weight - i was 100 pounds overweight and didn't eat meat. the recipes forum https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/recipes and food and nutrition…
  • for me, doing cardio lowered my cholesterol to normal. nothing fierce or exhausting - i use an exercise bike on a low resistance and pedal along while playing video games.
  • over what period are you not losing weight - a day, a week, a month? do you weigh and measure everything you eat, then log it? are you logging all condiments, cream, alcohol, etc? are you making sure the database entries you choose for your foods are accurate, because many are wrong.
  • it's very hard to make perfect choices for months or years. whether doing IF or simply counting calories, having some potato chips or a couple slices of pizza or a couple oreos can make one feel less deprived, and even when i was eating 1200 calories per day - i'm only 5'4" - i'd slip in a half or full serving of my…
  • i also struggle with this. i deal with it - for now - by drinking herb teas i really like, sweetened with stevia extract, which has no calories. i eat a lot of calorie-free popsicles made from my favorite 0 calorie sodas and water enhancers. i may eat a fat-free light yogurt - there are some flavors i really enjoy. sugar…

  • that's sort of funny but not surprising. the database entries on MFP are created by users, and in my experience over half of them are wrong. the first time i log a food that's likely to be repeated, i make sure that the database entry i choose matches the manufacturer nutrition info or info on the FDA website.
  • you might get more replies if you post your question here https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/food-and-nutrition along with your gender, height, weight and any restrictions to your diet - are you eating low sodium, vegetarian, any food allergies or health issues like IBS or diabetes? even on a tight budget,…
  • you can just move one day back in your diary and completely any day you want if you'd like. like the others say, it won't change anything.
  • i pay some attention to macros, but for weight loss, only calories matter. btw, i go into my MFP setting and change my macros if my goals change. i increased protein and decreased carbs recently as my current goal is building muscle. and even so, if i'm over or under on carbs or fats, i don't really worry about it.
  • some people here do intermittent fasting, which means they don't eat for a set amount of hours each day. to the best of my very little knowledge, the body adapts to an eating schedule, so people who do IF intermittent fasting) aren't hungry all the time. i also had a close friend years ago who ate breakfast, dinner, and a…
  • after the first year of the pandemic, my legs were too weak for me to get off a chair without using my arms to push up. i had been riding my exercise bike at low resistance to work around injuries, and when i stopped going anywhere, i discovered walking had been my main weight-bearing (baring?) exercise. i lost 20 pounds…
  • Without knowing the posters height, you can't know if this is true. I lose a half a pound a week at 1,230 calories so for me, 1,300 is close to maintenance. BTW, if starvation mode were a real thing, when I was anorexic and eating about 800 calories a day, I wouldn't have kept losing weight - but I did.
