Fair point, all I meant was that I think you'll get better results (whatever your goals might be) with higher frequency than once per week for a given lift.

Personally, I don't like performing each main lift only once per week (squat, bench, DL,OHP). Often people will do their accessories for one lift on a different day, I.e. doing DL accessory work on squat day, OHP accessory work on bench day etc. My .02

"Effective" depends on your goals. If you want to lose some weight, then cardio can work just fine. However, resistance training (bodyweight or otherwise) causes microtrauma to the muscles which must be repaired, which burns more calories after you've finished working out.
