I switched to the One when my Zip started doing that with batteries. Love the One's rechargeable battery so much more!

665 days of food logging. No plans to stop.

Yeah, my brain is part of my body. Maybe his isn't?

+1 Appreciate your body, care for it and it will carry you where you want to go. You are not at war with it!

I second the vote for the oxo. I've had mine almost 5 years and it's still going strong. It also uses normal batteries which is much easier imo.

I broke my fifth metatarsal in Oct 2013 (6 mos to the day after breaking my ankle, same leg). I wore a walking ortho boot cast thing for 12 weeks and it still didn't fully heal. To this day I feel pain in that spot, frequently. Feet bones require rest to heal. We need our feet to walk about. It's an obnoxious conundrum. I…

You can add veggies to the eggs. Frozen spinach is cheap. Frozen pepper and onion mixes. Look and see what you like. I find that eggs bulked with veggies are even more filling than plain ones. Baked potatoes topped with all kinds of stews and chilis also make for a very warm, filling and nutritious dinner. You can load…

I don't think it's so much being insulted by folks noticing the weight loss, it's actually the inability to convey, simply, that you've just eaten less and moved more. If the conversations went like your example then great, most ime don't. Often it is hopeless to convey/ get the other person to hear. They want magic to be…

I suspect she is a skeptic but don't let her get you down. Yes you can do it through "hard" work and I'd say that once you get your groove it won't even feel that hard! I've lost "only" 4 or so pounds a month. But after 660 days that's a not too shabby number in total! All forward progress is good. Don't let the naysayers,…

To add to the "because muscles" answer: Each pound of fat on your body can only yield so much energy to 'make up' the difference between your maintenance and your actual deficit. Because you can trust that it will be made up somehow. So if you are underneath by 500 calories per day but your body can only produce 300 of…

Love this. Congrats on some awesome work!

Middle aged American here. I shop and cook a lot. I wonder if it's new or newish here. I've never heard of it and wouldn't have had a clue what mycoprotein is till you guys talked about. Seems It should have an allergen statement on it.

It took me medicating the depression I wouldn't admit I had to finally be able to tackle my weight. I'm middle aged and lost a lot of time to that pride. Brilliant choice, eh? You have to like yourself to care for yourself. When you are depressed this is near impossible. Take care of yourself!

I'm busier than I've ever been in my life. Have a demanding career. Two grade school kids. Husband. House. Blah blah blah. You get the idea. But yet I've successfully logged my food and lost weight for the last 620+ days. My heart always wanted to lose weight but my head is in the game this time. I used to literally forget…

Do you have a physical therapy consult soon? You have to very intentionally re-build your strength and flexibility to prevent another fall/injury. I broke my ankle April 2013 and 6 months to the day the sucker rolled out from under me and I broke another bone in my foot. 'Twas not fun.

I'm saying that at that age they put the food in their own mouth. I present it but I cannot make them eat it. I also cannot make them NOT eat. They are tall enough to get in cabinets and the fridge. Pour a bowl of cereal, etc. It's very different than nursing a baby or feeding a toddler, man those days were easy to control…

I have a homemade version of this from a local quilt shop. It's awesome. Makes much tastier microwaved potatoes. And easy because no "dork" is needed. You don't pierce the potatoes and nothing explodes. Win win.

Sorry, sarcasm font was turned off. Not her fault, not society's fault. Each bears their own is my whole point. I sure as heck hope Personal responsibility kicks in well before young adulthood. I've got 4.5 decades done and my mother hasn't run my life for 3.5 of them. Blaming parents is the same as blaming society, IMO.…

I actually prefer to blame my mother. It's really all her fault, isn't it?

Teachers, coaches, other parents. It's why some schools have banned birthday treats at school. 27 kids in a class is 27 times a year you get cupcakes! Yes, we've gone crazy with celebrating and rewarding ourselves and our kids with food. I disagree that it was this way years ago. Treats were truly rare in my childhood, in…

Here in America there's candy and rewards all the time. Finished your math, have a lollipop. Great soccer game, here's a doughnut. Etc. you can't outrun the amount of food on offer. If you are the type like Lemur's cat and my second kid, with no internal regulator. You are screwed! Kids don't have the emotional…

like most assumptions this one is bad. Kids are not possessions. They have free will and lives apart from their parents so after about age 5 a parent is SOL on controlling intake. Under 5, I can buy all about the home feeding environment but once school starts mom and dad aren't all there is to say.
-
I have two kids. One self-regulates intake beautifully. The other will eat till . . . well not sure what satisfies the child. The self-regulated is the carbaholic and the eater is a protein-aholic. Just an N=2 but it's so contrary to conventional diet wisdom. I cannot figure it out.

Change is often scary and therefore not sought after. Most folks actively avoid it! Sometimes being what others don't like is a big ole FU to them. Maybe dumb to punish yourself to hurt others. But peeps do it.

You have done an amazing job. Congratulations! I would expect a reputable surgeon to want you to maintain for a bit before doing the surgery. Do your research so you get the results you are looking for!
-
That's what husbands are for;) At least mine:). I can count on him to eat what the kids hate. Ha!
-
I do have luck with this method. I don't steal stuff, even from my kids ;) I also do not take the candy away from my kids. I can't stand this, it's mean IMO since my self-control issues aren't their fault. Mine make a big ziplock of their haul and eat a bit for a few days and then like someone says previously they forget…

Congratulations! You look awesome!

What would your maintenance calories be, with activity set to sedentary? That's what I'd shoot for less maybe 100 cal/ day to cover errors. Sorry about the break, breaking bones is the pits!
