  • If you guys "connect", it doesn't matter what you look like physically. I think you dodged a bullet with the superficial dude who was only interested in your weight. I mean, it's nice to be appreciated and to be able to "show off" for your partner...but it's also nice to be having a chubby day (week...month...year...) and…

  • I was just noticing the same thing. My fiance's been eating like this for a while before me, though, and he has a habit of coating the kitchen with his burger patty grease. Our stove hood is the worst - just a cheap recirculator on the bottom of a microwave. We rent. Talk about a nasty trap for grease - you know that…
  • I'm a recent convert to bulletproof type coffees. I am a bit of a coffee snob and tend to drink single origin coffees from the Americas. They have a natural sweetness when roasted lightly (not OVER-roasted). A good coffee when prepared properly needs no cream or sugar. Since changing my way of eating, though, I've started…
  • I prefer mac nut oil (awesome to add to fat bomb drinks) and the VERY occasional mac nut butter. Not a huge fan of the nuts, and the carbs are actually pretty high for me. I have a daily limit of about 16g carbs. A serving would likely do me in. :/ -T.
  • Cute! Neat ideas. -T.
  • Nifty. I found some flax seed crackers called Flackers by "Dr In the Kitchen" that have...ONE net carb. :o The net carbs on the Livin Spoonful crackers are a little high for my particular macros. -T.
  • I was a seafood "vegetarian" for 26 years and lactose intolerant / dairy free for over 10 years. My poor fiance...he has been staying out of town to help with his folks and only comes to visit me once a month now. He came to visit right when I started keto and found all these packs of bacon in the fridge and blocks of…
  • Never heard of it. I had to look it up. It looks like it's made from the meat pulp ground up. From the looks of it, I imagine you could use it instead of butter or nut butter. From the nutritional info on it, I'd lean more towards using it like nut butter - that is, very sparingly because of the carb content (yeah, but net…
  • I was a pretty hardcore chip-o-holic. I don't really miss them anymore. Pork rinds really help fill that particular void for me. They are good with dips, too, like sour cream. Mmm... Oh man. Now I wish I had sour cream because these pork rinds are sitting in the cabinet beckoning me! And yeah, kale and seaweed chips are…
  • I've had good luck with button-up shirts for work from Chadwicks and from New York & Company. The key is to look for the ones that have just a touch of lycra in them. *looks on the NY&Co site* I think Fall is the best time to buy that type of shirt...but good news - it looks like some looser sleeve styles are in for the…
  • Haha! I was thinking that, too. It could just be genetics, though. Fiance does a well-rounded workout including some pretty heavy leg days and still has small calves and relatively small legs compared to the rest of his body. So @AngInCanada, what high carb items are you missing? Maybe we can help identify the craving and…
  • Thanks, auntie. Working on it. Hopefully I'll hear something back soon before I explode. :/ -T.
  • Unfortunately for me, "The Wings" run in my family. My mom has them, and I have them in spades. I've been losing weight and also lifting, but the definition isn't there yet. I do target the triceps and arms with a few exercises. I am hoping that as I build muscle, it will help, uh, pull that skin up and away from the…
  • Too much screen time (computer, TV, phone). Too little sleep. Not enough water. Too much stress. I have too much of all of the above going on to blame my blurry vision on keto. Maybe if I wasn't a walking ball of stress, I'd get more sleep and not sound / look like I'm drunk. :/ -T.
  • When I first started keto last October, I felt great for like the first month or two. I had amazing energy and mobility. I'm happy that my weight has started to drop off, too. I was at 153 lbs at the start, and now I'm around 139 lbs on a good day. Unfortunately for me, I still have mood swings. In fact, I get very angry…
  • DarthLuiggi has been doing keto for about 14 years as of this interview from last September: https://youtu.be/d0O9duM9hOw My fiance sent me this a while back and asked me to take a look at it for info. He doesn't sit through long videos very well. It's an hour long video, but I really do recommend it - even if you're not…
  • The Quest for Brisket, coming soon to a keto dieter near you. >_> -T.
  • Excellent advice, folks! Thanks a ton. My fiance is a brisket lover and was really bummed last time we went to KCMO because everywhere we went had sugar on it. I grew up with the sauce and LOVE how KC style sauce tastes, but it's off limits for the two of us now. Bad news, though. I just called Danny Edwards and they said…
  • Oh yeah, I know most of the steak places are going to be fine. We like Outback and Logan's and places like that, for sure. Just hoping to find some BBQ that isn't coated in sugar. -T.
  • Thanks. Yeah, I've been SAD in Missouri (Haha...sad in misery...) as well as seafood vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free...and now keto. KC is getting a LOT better about dietary restrictions and understanding, but low carb's still a bit hard to match up. Hrm. I hadn't thought about checking for diabetic friendly. Good…
  • No suggestions here...got one in the cross-posted keto forum. Aw man. I don't want to have to finally sign up and post on reddit or something. :( I tried to edit my subject line here, but it wouldn't let me. Bleh. -T.
  • What kind of group was it, and what were they beating you up over? When I was sick, I bought some sugar-free jello from the grocery store. It had aspartame in it, but at the time, I didn't have any other options. Apparently, aspartame is the current artificial sweetener devil, so that might have been why. Just guessing.…
  • I'm about 11-12 hours away from my mom. She came to visit me RIGHT as I started this diet, so I was lucky enough to be able to "show her" some of the basics. I have a good food scale. Maybe get your mom one, too. My mom didn't really understand portion control until I showed her. "Yes, that's all the protein I can have."…
  • As in on the reddit site itself? I've only ever...read it. Never created an account or posted. >_> -T.
  • Over in Independence, looks like. Well, it does look like it'll fit the bill. At least it's something. Thanks. Hope there are more options out there! -T.
  • Spinach with cream cheese. Mushrooms fried in butter or bacon grease, maybe with a cream sauce. Grilled asparagus. Shredded cabbage sauteed in bacon grease with toasted slivered almonds and a dash of chicken broth to deglaze the pan. Raw kale with olive oil and garlic massaged in, and tossed with parmesan cheese. -T.

  • Personally, I have a hard time MEETING my daily numbers, and often have to cram in a fatty drink shake at the end of the day. For a few days, I experimented with going over because I was recovering from some...well, stress and stuff. I only went up like a lb or two, but I'd already fluctuated upwards by a lb while eating…
  • Only problem I have with the article is the 100g serving. I usually only have a couple strips with my breakfast which the package says is 15g cooked. My fiance might eat a half pack of bacon at a time (still only 3 servings or 45g), but not me. I have yet to master the bacon weave. -T.

  • Oh man. The only time I've ever made mashed cauliflower, it was gone so fast, it barely had time to cool down. >_> It will probably keep for a couple days, though, if you can keep your spoon out of it for that long. -T.
  • I'm 5'4 and currently weigh 141 lbs (hovering between 140 and 142 lbs). I was 152 lbs last October. According to the numbers I am using, I should be losing a pound a week, but I'm not. It's incredibly slow, but I am seeing my body shape up and fit into my old jeans so I am trying not to stress it. My numbers are: Your…
