  • I can strongly recommend stronglifts 5x5. Just remember to follow the instructions, ie start with an empty bar and progress slowly. For overhead presses, you might want to start even lighter and use dumbbells. They are easier for your shoulders as well.
  • Well, you've taken a great first step by joining here. I'm sure you can find lots of people here willing to cheer on you, myself included. Feel free to add me as a friend if you want to. Just take it easy and start out slow and you'll see the pounds starting to melt away. The most important thing is to just stick with it.…
  • Yes, you can walk every day. That is how we used to get to places not very long ago, you know... :-) Jogging every day is fine too, although it can be tough on your joints if you carry a lot of extra weight.
  • The first post in this thread is a marvelous place to start. Either go with one of the calculators mentioned in that post (I prefer the one on exrx.net) or use the one built into MFP. Aim for a daily deficit of 500 kcal. Make sure you eat at least 100 grams of protein and 60 grams of fat daily, adjust your carbs according…
  • You should not listen to any BMI calculator. If you want to know what is right for you, have your body fat percentage measured. If you don't know where to get measured (or don't feel comfortavle doing it) you can eyeball it using these examples: http://www.builtlean.com/2012/09/24/body-fat-percentage-men-women/ If you're…
  • Creatine occurs naturally in all meats and some other animal products as well, and your body will synthesize it if you aren't getting enough of it with you food. How on earth would they be able to test for something like this?

  • Hence the call out to all "sis's" as well in the title... :-)
  • No. If you want to maximise recovery, then you should try to get some carbs in you as quickly as possible, but unless you plan on working out again within 12 hours or so, even that does not matter.
  • Well... Yes. I don't know what I would have done with those squeaky hinges on our our fridge if it were not for coconut oil. Coz that's what you had in mind, right..? ;-)
  • I'm using coconut grease (during winter, it is not a liquid oil over here) as a lubricant for massage. Works great for that, doesn't smell, doesn't go rancid, doesn't irritate people.
  • Why, if I may ask?
  • Well, that depends on whether you are immortal or not?
  • Well, if raising three kids and pampering one grandchild is not fabulous, then I don't know what is... :-)
  • Sugar = carbohydrates, and for all intents and purposes you can pretty much assume the opposite to be true as well.
  • I was looking to take those same steps as well, but then I took an arrow to the knee... No, seriously, add me to your group... :-)
  • Hi, I'm doing C25K (about to finish week 6) and tracking it in Endomondo. Feel free to add me if you like.
  • I'm a few pounds shy of that goal, but I wanted to offer you my cheers nevertheless. And do remember to set lots and lots of "milestones" for your journey. That is, don't aim for losing 100 lbs, but try shooting for that next even 5 or 10 lbs instead, dropping one dress size or something similar. My point is: don't bite…
  • Exactly. I'd bet that very few people have been polishing their diet and working out hard since their teens, but still just somehow one day woke up being 50 lbs overweight. "Putting off" (or more liiely just completely sweeping aside) was the name of the game for the vast majority of us on this forum, I think. I quit…
  • The amount of broscience in this post is nothing short of astonishing. I think that the only myth you forgot was to not eat more than 30 grams of protein in one meal.
  • Sure. But is that a bad thing? Or good? Or should we even really care either way?
  • Swimming is such a technical exercise, that I'm willing to bet that a trained swimmer can get to the end of the pool using less than half of the energy than an untrained beginning swimmer. An untrained swimmer will exhaust herself by just trying to stay afloat for a few minutes, whereas a seasoned veteran can stay afloat…
  • If you could spell out what your workout consists of, it might be easier to see what could be causing your pains. Most likely it's a combination of bad form and not enough warmups. If your shoulders are inflamed, then you really need to see a doctor and rest until you get better or you risk wrecking them for life. If it is…
  • This applies to basically anything in life. Goals should be SMART. That is: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. There's nothing quite as devastating for morale and motivation than to work hard towards a goal that turns out to be impossible to achieve. Not just in weight loss, but in everything in…
  • A pound of feathers weigh the same as a pound of lead. Would you say that feathers weigh the same as lead? And FYI, just because you are ripped does not mean that you are muscular. It means that you are lean.
  • Umm... Something isn't quite right here.
  • If your trainer is worth anything, he'll agree that SL5x5 is a good program to start with, and he'll coach you in doing the lifts properly with good form. And if he's really good, he'll spot your weaknesses and design the assistance work based on that. If, on the other hand, he is like most trainers that I've seen or heard…
  • You win the thread!
  • That's only true if your goals are more in the bodybuilding type of training and muscle gain. If you want to lift to become stronger, then you can feel free to do as much cardio as you can. Just make sure that you eat enough and take enough time to rest and recover. If you do KB 4 times a week then I'd recommend at most…
  • Great inspiration. We're the same height and I weighed close to your starting weight when I stopped and looked myself in the mirror and said to myself that this s**t has got to go. Thanks for showing us that it can be done!
