Of course there is no one answer and not every situation will fit into this definition, but I view processed food as products that have man made ingredients/chemicals in them. I consider Food that has ingredients that you can't easily pronounce processed food. This is not a hard fast rule with zero exceptions...just a…

I completely agree that added sugar is not good for you. It's for that reason that I limit how much added sugar I eat (yes I still have treats etc). Unlike artificial sweeteners though, sugar is natural and not some man made chemical. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs about health and food. I tend to believe that…

I agree with some other posters who suggest trying to up your water intake. That really is the best thing you can do to hydrate yourself. I know I will be told I'm wrong and that there is no proof of what I'm saying, but I truly belive (MY OPINION) that zero calorie drinks and artificial sweeteners are not healthy. People…

I was using the donut example as an exaggerated example. I don't eat healthy all the time by any means. I just am confused by these message boards because all I see is people saying CICO is all that matters for weight loss. And in no way do I think I am superior...I was simply stating MY personal opinions and beliefs that…

When I initially tore my right hip I would get some sharp groin pain but nothing that really prevented me from doing anything. This pain subsided and went away. Eventually over time I started getting "catching" in my hip. Again this didn't stop me from doing anything. The week before surgery I went on a 7 mile hike with…

I had hip arthroscopy bilaterally in 2016 (5 months apart). I had FAI and a tear in my right hip. I waited 4 years to have surgery and finally got it done. Waiting so long took its toll on the cartilage. 2 months after my right surgery I tore the left side. Had surgery 3 months later and that cartilage was in much better…

Sorry to hear you are having to deal with all these issues. In 2016 I had hip arthroscopy in each hip (5 months apart) to correct FAI and labral tears. It has definitely been a long journey but finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I went to Physical Therapy until the end of 2016 and am now just…

Make a couple PBJ sandwiches before you leave to bring with you for lunch each day. A couple hard boiled eggs for breakfast and maybe a packet of oatmeal. You could get an MRE for dinner, just add boiling water. Some are higher in salt than others, so try and get a lower sodium one, but you'll be hiking so your body will…

Nuts (almonds are really good for you), veggie sticks & hummus, natural peanut butter (try and get the one with no added sugar), I also like basic salads for a snack.

I make a simple dressing with a little olive oil and apple cider vinegar...if that is too strong you can use red wine vinegar. Or to be really healthy/low calorie, a squirt of lemon tastes good. Adding some freshly ground black pepper also kicks a plain salad up a notch.

I personally only eat wild. Farmed has the same (if not slightly more) omega 3, but it also contains more saturated fat and omega 6. I buy my salmon frozen in the vacuum packs at Trader Joes. I always say to buy wild if you can find/afford it.

I personally belive that it's Important to differentiate between natural sugar and added sugar (especially high fructose corn syrup). I avoid anything with HFCS. I get most of my sugar from fruit (which includes fiber). It all impacts the way the body breaks it down and process it. If anyone is interested, you should watch…

Lemon will give the effect of salt on certain foods (obviously this will not work on some foods).

The "cannot connect to server" happened on my phone. I deleted the app, reinstalled it and it seems to work fine now. I never had a problem with it deleting logged foods though.

I love the Crockpot Chicken Taco Chili. Throw it in the slow cooker and have a nice meal waiting when I get home from work. She has great recipes.

I completely agree. Fiber is key. If you juice, you are getting all the fruit sugar with none of the fiber to properly metabolize it (this can lead to weight gain). Get a good blender (recommend the Vitamix). I throw an apple, orange, banana, ginger, a little water and some ice into the Vitamix and have an all natural…

I thought about getting one, but ultimately decided against it. There is an app on my phone "S Health" that has a pedometer and a distance tracker and it is surprisingly accurate. I don't know how accurate the calories is, but I know the distance tracker is accurate because I've tested it. Just another option in case you…

I agree with everyone else. You really don't need to worry about whole fruit sugar (or blended whole fruit) as long as you stay within your calorie goals (added sugar is another story). I drink a smoothie every morning very similar to yours. I'd recommend checking out "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" by Robert Lustig (YouTube…

I make tuna burgers. Just Google "canned tuna burger" for a ton of different recipes.

Broccoli, Grape, Cucumber Salad I usually just eyeball everything to make however much I need. Just chop everything cup, add a little mayo and fat free plain yogurt, a squeeze of lemon, some black pepper and you have your side dish. It is very good and refreshing on a hot day...no cooking required. The actual recipe calls…

We have a Vitamix 6300 from Costco. It's great having the option of manual control or the preset settings. We have the standard tall container. I have read/heard that the new, shorter container does not pull the food into the blades quite as well as the tall container. You can't go wrong with a Vitamix. Check the Vitamix…

Plain non-fat yogurt with walnuts, 1/2 banana, blueberries and chia seeds.

Last night I made sriracha mustard baked chicken breast, spicy roasted sweet potato wedges, steamed broccoli and zucchini/carrot "noodles" (I tried a veggi spirilizer for the first time...didn't work so well, but it tasted good).

Plain non-fat yogurt (or greek yogurt), 1/2 chopped banana and some chopped walnuts. I used to top it with a little honey for sweetness, but I've been leaving it off since to eliminate the sugar (banana is sweet enough). I plan to do the same thing, but use steelcut oats in place of the yogurt.
