  • Hey, this is slightly OT, but I just got an UP24, and for about two days I had two way sync working (UP steps to MFP, MFP calories to up), but yesterday the my MFP calories stopped syncing to UP. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting multiple times, deleted and reinstalled both apps, and no luck. Any suggestions?…
  • You can do a lot with body weight exercises. There are quite a few apps with good body weight workouts too - Fitstar, Sworkit, Skimble to name a few.
  • Hey! New here. I want to set a goal of 60 for April; secretly I'm hoping to run a lot more than that, but knowing that I am just getting back into the habit of running regularly AND it is getting to be end-of-semester crazy time, I'm setting the bar a little lower. Getting over a cold and did 3.75 sluggish miles today.
  • Missed this when it was posted - but I totally want to join. I will start tomorrow 4/2, but start on day 7 because I can already do 45s planks.
  • Yeah... I buy bread from a great local bakery, the slices are often like 150% of the weight of a "slice" according to the label. I generally assume canned stuff is fairly accurate, but maybe not...
  • I usually just divide the number of ounces in the can by the number of ounces in a serving, then multiply that number by the number of calories in a serving. Are you saying that the can actually has a different number of ounces than the label says?
  • Come up with a good stretching routine for your ITBs and do it religiously. If your pain is at the knee, ice massage can help (less so if the pain s at the hip). Foam roll your ITBs often and aggressively. If it's not too bad yet, you may be able to cut back running instead of taking time off completely. Make sure you are…
  • I love banana with peanut butter after a long workout. Sugar, healthy fat, protein, and tastes like candy :).
  • For me, it's easier to work harder on the treadmill - so I think it's a better workout. If you can run outside though, that's probably even better and definitely more fun.
  • I wouldn't wear them in spin class, because the bike geometry and handlebars are such that it doesn't seem necessary (though if it helps with sweat or whatever I wouldn't judge someone for it), but when I ride my road bike on the trainer I wear gloves. And I definitely wear gloves to lift because otherwise I get calluses,…
  • If cost is a concern - TJ Maxx or Marshalls often have decent activewear selections, and you can frequently pick up a pair of tights for 9.99 - 14.99. And you can try on different styles, try jogging in place in the dressing room to see if they seem to stay put :). Old Navy active stuff has also gotten much better in the…
  • Be careful about gorging on tater tots in the dining hall "because you can". Speaking from experience :)
  • I'm 5'7", and 34/28/38. Trying to lose ~30lbs and expect to lose around 2-3 inches from each of those measurements (plus extra from my thighs!).
  • I live in Vermont. We share a border :). And depending on the outcome of our presidential election...
  • I am also trying to lose ~30 lbs. Just added you!
  • For a quick breakfast, I like a packet of the plain kind cooked with a chopped up banana and a tablespoon of chunky peanutbutter, topped with a little milk. On the weekends, I'll make steel-cut oats with chopped apple, walnuts, and chia seeds, topped with milk and (real) maple syrup and sometimes a little cinnamon.
  • What everyone else said, and: Have you tried running without your HRM, or without paying attention to it, just paying attention to how you feel? And, how did you calculate Max? By testing or by formula? Do you feel confident that it's reasonably accurate for you?
  • Free weights are more effective than machines at building functional strength because they require you to use other muscles to stabilize the lift. However, machines are helpful if you have injuries that limit your range of safe motion.
  • There are many different philosophies and ways to plan a workout, but it's common to include 2-3 sets of 8-12 reps of each exercise, with heavy enough weights that you are close to failure at the last rep (though you can go lighter for the first few weeks to avoid being crazy sore). There are so many resources available…
  • I added you!
  • Feel free to add me. I have some weight to lose, but the big picture is that I tend to swing back and forth between being pretty active and fit for a while, and getting super stressed out about whatever is going on in my life at the moment, and gaining weight/not exercising for months - and I need to figure out how to…
  • Sending you a friend request :)
  • This is fairly unscientific, but if I need to guesstimate calorie burn, I assume 100 cal/mile for running and 40 cal/mile cycling. I don't figure speed/effort in at all, although I typically ride at a brisk pace (16-17 mph).
