One of my "no cook" go-to weekday breakfasts is a half-cup of 2% cottage cheese plus a slice of whole grain toast with peanut butter. The fat and protein keep me feeling full until lunch, and you can vary the amount of cottage cheese or nut butter to suit your tastes/calorie goals.

Thanks so much for your post--it's inspiring! Best of luck to us all. :)

Exactly THIS. Small changes rather than major "diets" can be way easier to manage over the long haul. And try to be kind to yourself. I've regained some of the weight I've lost, and I'm noticing that when I feel upset or guilty about it, that just makes me want to eat everything that's not nailed down. If I remind myself…

I've read this thread with great interest, and I've composed and deleted half a dozen responses to posts with which I disagree. But this isn't really about any of us. It's about you. You posted honestly about how upset this incident at work made you feel, and how you struggle not to overeat as a way of dealing with…

JFT Don't let eating a handful of licorice at the office this afternoon become a reason to binge all day long....

Remember: You're still 65 pounds lighter than you were before you took steps to improve your health! That's a better outcome than many of us will ever achieve. Please, be kind to yourself and try to focus on the positives--you have a big challenge in front of you right now, but with patience and persistence you can re-lose…

I like them with devil's food mix as well--the chocolate is enough to cover the pumpkin taste. Good idea to freeze them!

Me, too!

Is your husband on board with changing up some of his menu items to make it a little easier for you as you're starting out? Either a couple new recipes or tweaks to SOME of his signature dishes could help. I'm not suggesting that he needs a complete overhaul of his cooking style. For many of us, there are certain…

I agree! A gradual move from the sweeter milk chocolates to dark chocolates was the way to go for me as well. Turned out it wasn't the chocolate that I craved, but the sugar. I used to wolf down an entire 12 ounce bag of "fun-size" Snickers bars at one sitting if I was feeling stressed, but there's no way that I can eat an…

Yes! Also, switching up the pace of your walk can give you a bit of variety. Either go faster the entire time if you can, or build in short bursts where you walk as fast as you can then drop back to your current pace. And congratulations on your progress so far. Keep it up!

If you like cottage cheese, that works for me. I add fruit or veg to bulk it up a little.

Well done, you! Keep up the good work and the positive attitude! <insert happy dance here>

No, .5--HALF a pound a week. Five pounds a week isn't realistic (or sustainable) for most of us. Please be patient. Sustainable weight control is marathon, not a sprint.

Maybe it's time to have the OMGNEWDOC talk. (Seriously, OMGDEATHFAT is one of the funniest things I've seen all week, and it's been a pretty good week for humor.)

Agreed. I just had my Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) tested this morning, and I burn about 150 calories below the Mifflin RMR estimate for a woman of my height, weight, and age. My bad for doing stupid fad/crash diets on-and-off for like 30 years. If this might apply to you, can you get an RMR test? (It's not the same as…

I nearly choked while eating a cherry tomato because I was laughing at the image of the cake sandwich. Your post is now causing me to reconsider the pre- and post-prandial impact of all deadly nightshade vegetables. You, sir, are a lifesaver! I might've gone on eating those dangerous things for, well, minutes....

I can only speak for myself, but when I stopped eating and drinking foods that contain artificial sweeteners and increased my protein intake, my sugar cravings went down surprisingly quickly. I had gotten to the point that fresh, ripe pineapple tasted bland or even a bit bitter to me, so I was trying to "reboot" my…

I've been where you are now (repeatedly!), and it sucks to feel the way you're feeling. But you're here and you're reaching out for support and encouragement, and that's great! I'll second the comment on the craziness of sizing. Right now, I have 3 different sizes of jeans in my closet and they all fit. A size is just a…

I agree with @slim1. I get on once, and only once. I had gotten into the habit of weighing multiple times in the off-chance of getting a lower number, but it finally dawned on me that the weight on my scale is just one of several ways to gauge my process/progress. The idea of NSV (non-scale victories) was liberating!

Ok, I admit that I don't have a clue who Greg Plitt is, but if your profile photo is accurate, I wouldn't say you have a "dad bod." Don't let a plateau get you down.

The word punishment rings a bell for me. I have done this, and it wasn't because I enjoyed eating everything that wasn't nailed down. For me, it had to do with all-or-nothing thinking. It went like this: "Well, hell. I already screwed up by eating the cookie. Today's diet is shot! So I may as well eat ALL of the cookies,…

Panang curry shrimp. Light coconut milk, lots of veg, served over equal parts shredded fresh spinach and steamed brown jasmine rice. Yikes. When I put it like that, it sounds grim--but it's actually easy and tasty.

I wouldn't describe 1200 calories a day as extreme (the MFP recommended minimum for women is 1000 calories per day), but it's pretty low for someone your age and height. The good news is that you've had success maintaining at a more moderate level (1400-1600 cal) for 3 months. So follow others' advice: Figure out your…

You just mentioned "extreme caloric deficit." How low did you go, and for how long? That alarms me.

Your GP said it's ok to continue to exercise, right? I haven't seen many folks from Edinburgh on MFP, so I don't want anything untoward to happen to you while you're waiting on the test results.... Could be bad for our geographic diversity! (Sorry. I'll stop pretending to be your mum now.)
