I run outside every day and use the treadmill on days when ice and snow make outdoors less safe. For me I see no issue in everyday as I mix up the intensity and the distance. My "normal" morning is 3 miles at a pace around 9 to 9.5. I never go faster than 8 as then I feel the stress. For half marathon training I do 10 or…

My usual early morning 3 miles and some yoga before the company shows later that morning.

B6 and B12 washed down with my early morning coffee and probably washed right out with my later morning...

I think you said it well. CICO is really different for each person. What goes in can be different and gets different results and how much you work at it will determine the calories out. Eventually we find our own blend that works so you know the consequences of the extra beers or shots and even if you behave diet wise that…

In my opinion you should not experience pain ( you didn't mention pain - I am adding that statement) and soreness should go away if you are performing the "same" routine at the "same" intensity. I base this on my personal experience where I developed into my routine and the exercise became enjoyable and easier to complete.…

The fitbit is a pedometer that works really well for the price (Zip or One). If you care about steps that is what it actually does. I chose it as it so popular you get into the step challenges with so many others. For my running I use something else with a GPS that is less expensive than the fancier fitbits.

Hello everyone. I am Dan from Connecticut. 54 years old, married 32 years, two kids - son 28 and daughter 23. Like most on here my sedentary life and all work no play brought on some health issues. A nutritionist mentioned MFP so I gave it a look and joined last year. I have since lost the weight I wanted and I am very…

Great use of goonies. A classic.

Since you both have the issue I would agree that it could be the stride plus the exercise mode. Try their tech support. When I went from a ZIP to a ONE I found the ONE was way off. I had to reset it almost daily it was so off on everything. Tech support walked me through a few things and then finally they mailed me a…

My two cents. I started with a ZIP and really liked it as it was cheap, small, and displayed the steps. My wife had a flex and I did not like the non display of steps. She then got a ONE. I liked how it kept a charge and was easy to recharge via her laptop. I on the other hand had to buy new batteries every three months…

Started with a ZIP as it was cheapest but I didn't like having to buy batteries. Have a ONE now and it is great (had it replaced as original didn't work). I only care about the steps to help my awareness of being active so that is why I have the one. Very basic and affordable and also very small so it fits in my pocket or…

I use fitletic hydration belt. Two small bottles with capability to add more, small compartment for storage (keys, phone).

Awesome. To make certain I completed my first half I found a pace of 10 was perfect for me. I could keep a conversation going, complete in just over 2 hours, and not be dead for the rest of the day. So a pace of 11 is fine. Set your goal at finishing ad don't worry about speed right now. I did give myself almost a year to…

Do you mean if you had to pick just one device? I never found just one that would do all I wanted and look good and be practical money-wise. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles. I like my fitbit one as it is small and I toss it in my pocket. does my steps fine. I only use my garmin for running as it is not the best…

Great Idea! my rules: I am EST Time would be anything after 7:30 pm (I have dinner just before that time) Snacks do not include some veggies like slices of fresh pepper or some (3 or 4) baby carrots Beverages OK would be 0 cal seltzer or water with lemon. Anything else will be off limits. Starting June 5 so Me - 0 LNS - 0

True friends would be supportive. If you have to bring your own beverages (water, seltzer, lemons for water). Maybe the conversation won't be as bad as you thing and your friends will invite you to some event like a hike, bike ride, etc. or you can use this event o ask for some support. I have also eaten a bit (healthy)…

I've been the same for a year now. I didn't use any special science or calculation. Its just from day in day out repetition of doing pretty much the same thing and looking at the scale. I now just have a feel for knowing what I ate and I know 3 miles a day at a basic pace keeps me where I am. After all the time spent…

If speed is no issue you can do the 10k by just taking your time and going slow. Its only six miles and most folks I know (average folks!) do it in an hour-ish time.

For motivation keep that picture handy and look at it every day. Also keep reminding yourself about the health issues you want to overcome or reduce or prevent. That is why you are doing this, right? Set small goals so you can reward yourself often. You feel much better more often if you try to lose one pound in one week…

I agree 100% with what sarasmaintaining just wrote. "The weight loss phase is for a fairly short period of time. The maintenance phase is for the rest of our lives-20, 30, 40+ years. " I never give up as I never set an end point. As I reach a goal I set another. So far I have maintained my weight but I realize every day I…

Mine came when I was in the cardiac IC unit in bed taking Nitro pills for the chest pain wondering if I will now join the "zipper club" like many of my co-workers. About that time I found I was also pre-diabetic and the pain in my hands and forearms was not carpal tunnel but in reality neuropathy caused by bad diet and too…

UPDATE: I ran my first Half yesterday May 17. Completed in 2:14 so I was very pleased I came in under 2:20 which was my goal. I also didn't stop along the way, no walking, which was another goal. I thought this would be my one and only and I would stick with 5K's but when I saw I came in last in my division by 10 seconds…

Strange but that makes a lot of sense. I love the way you put it.

Similar answer here but 10k (not miles) as an hour is about right for me.
-
Same here.

I had that when I started. I had someone watch me as I ran and they noticed I was "leaning" to one side with poor posture. That put me way out of alignment. I added some simple core body strength and basic Yoga to my routine and the pain went away and has never returned. One year later I run 3 miles almost every morning,…

A year ago I couldn't jog a complete mile. Last month I had my fastest 5K trail race time (8:26 pace) and I run my first half marathon Sunday May 17. 35 lbs lighter, no issues with my A1C. LOTS of support from MFP members.

if you go to a running store and the person takes the time to do a proper fitting, which does take time, I think the right thing to do is buy a pair from them. From then on you can replace the shoe online for less cost. The folks working the store don't get rich as they are usually not the owner. So if you take their time…

good to hear you realize there is no magic pill and that it will take effort. Once that hits home you can really make progress. For me it was ending up in the hospital and hearing it all had to do with my eating and drinking and lack of exercise. I am at the age where my father had his first heart attack and then bypass.…
