My hips are one of my weakest and strongest points. Strong from use, but I really stress them with martial arts. So I've done some work around them and here's what I've learned. - Your hips are complex from a muscle, tendon, etc. perspective. They all have different functions (move leg in, out, up, down, front, back) and…

My diary is open, 1200 pre-exercise goal but I do eat what I add on in exercise. I cook a lot from scratch so many of the things here are based on recipes I've made. Yeah, and I'm bad - omitting nutrition for wine more than I should. :-)

I'm not strict on vegetables in small quantities because they're often such a low calorie item. But I do count them if I eat a lot and I definitely count any toppings (olive oil, butter, cheese, etc.)

I'm not a fitness guru, but I've been interval training regularly for 3-4 years. I almost always participate in a class setting and the workout and concentrated areas vary by the day. My classes are an extension of a tae kwon do studio so they have a martial arts flavor to them. Intervals vary from tabata to 2 minutes. The…

2 1/2 mile dog walk only today. Interval training and tae kwon do class yesterday and at least interval training tomorrow. (Would you believe I want to protect a new tattoo on my wrist and don't want to wear my MMA gloves? :-) )

How does your HRM compare to the MFP database on low impact aerobics?

Curious to see any answers to this because I've been wondering the same about interval training in general. I interval train 3-5 times per week with a martial arts flavor, sometimes tabata. Put in 20 seconds of anything on MFP and you get 0 back, but it's clearly not a 0 burn. I've consolidated the time and used…

Cook for a shorter time period, but definitely let it rest 10+ minutes. Resting makes a huge difference in moisture. (You can cover it with tin foil and a pot holder on top of the stove to keep in the heat.)

I'm relatively new to all of this too and from what I've been reading, calorie burn counting may be more art than science. I agree the MFP numbers seem a bit random and have no way to count for exertion level. (I can do the same described workout two days in a row, but move at different rates.) Plus it doesn't seem to…

Thanks for the responses. I was looking for the easy answer - which is rarely to be found. I found this comparison of fitness trackers on Wired from 2012 and it seems like a good comparison. http://www.wired.com/2012/08/fitness-trackers/ From the article, it looks like running may have some decent estimates to it, but a…
