Upper body speed and power is a pretty important component of surfing. Surfing is 90% paddling and getting up the speed to catch a wave after you're out in the line up is not easy after the endurance paddle it takes to get out there!

I love almond milk in my coffee, with granola, and with protein powder. As someone else alluded to, cow milk messes with my sinuses. Cheese and yogurt don't give me the same response, so I don't know what it is. I get a lot of protein in my diet from cheese, eggs, and meat meat meat, so I don't worry about missing out on…

Thanks guys! I'm going to switch out squat jumps for the box jumps. It's probably more reliable anyway since hotel gym equipment is .... sketchy at best. I wish I knew something other than explosive pushups for the upper body, but I can't seem to find much that doesn't involve throwing around a medicine ball. (And that's…

YES! EXACTLY!

I've never done a walking DVD because that sounds like, frankly, the dullest thing ever. But if that's what you've gotta do, that's what you've gotta do! Can you mute it and listen to an audiobook instead? Or a podcast?

I'm pretty comfortable in the gym - doing a good combination of cardio (bike/treadmill/rowing), lifting with dumbells, HIIT, and some yoga. Plyometrics gave me a lot more control on the mountain last year, and I'd like to get back to it to improve my snowboarding performance now and my surfing performance for those rare…

I agree with auddii. You might also try weighing everyday. If you can handle seeing the scale go up a little and then down a little without loosing your motivation, seeing the everyday fluctuation can help. It's statistically been shown to help people keep weight off - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21732212.…

I'd recommend looking for a bodybuilder/powerlifter gym near you for a trainer. Lifting heavy totally re-sculpted my body years ago, but I was lucky enough to have a good trainer (who also happened to be the guy I was married to)! I really really loved using "Starting Strength" to get started - you can check out the…

So how is this going for everyone? I've gotten a lot more friend requests and some good comments from people who see my diary and my posts. :) And so far, it's helping. If it weren't for MFP diary buddies, I would have ordered shrimp scampi and a glass or two of wine rather than a fantastic chicken salad. FYI: I almost…

Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. ^my favorite quote when I get overwhelmed by people telling me to cut carbs, go vegetarian, eat primal, etc etc. It also helps when I get a little to neurotic about trying to count calories while away from home.

Aw, I was going to figure out what to tell rach84reid, but she's deactivated her account. :( Glad to see so many other people willing to help! Gorda2015 - It's awesome to see your food journal in Portuguese. :) Looks like you get in a lot of good fruit (at least, those are the only words in Portuguese that I recognize…

I love the suggestions to make meals that are separate - not casseroles or one-pot. A crockpot meal with a few sides can go a long way to helping HIM stay at a healthy weight (more protein and carbs) and YOU stay healthy (more veggie sides). I love a meatloaf with veggies mixed in - this is a favorite:…

17 days is awesome! But it's still early days - this is the next big challenge: making those changes HABIT. And then your next challenge is figuring out what you can let slide during maintenance (maybe only track every other day, making 80% good choices and not letting 20% bad ones drag you down, etc.) This becomes part of…

If you're not giving up fruit, dried fruit (read labels to make sure it doesn't have any added) can be a good addition to the nuts and veggies.

I just moved to colder weather and the light and cold are not exactly motivating me to get up and out too often either. I DID just buy some expensive winter running gear rated for the temperatures I'm in ($60 thermal pants and a $120 hoodie - I didn't pay full price, but it wasn't cheap)...and that helps motivate me.…

I think the first step is to stop beating yourself up for things that are over. So you binged last night - feeling cruddy about it this morning isn't going to make you feel better, it's just going to make that bad choice mess up your body AND your mind. Mediation* - just focusing on letting thoughts run through your mind…

I dieted successfully on 1200 a day when I lost about 25lbs 12 years ago. By the time I had a regular workout routine in place though, that number of calories wasn't enough. I actually lost more weight when I stepped up to 1450 a day and had one workout per day (either jog/walking or lifting weights). I was 5'3" and 145lb…
