2500 yards in just under an hour. Took a few laps to get warmed up after someone wanted to chat on the pool deck before I got started. Standing around on wet concrete in only swim trunks when it's just over 40 degrees (F) had my teeth chattering. Only two others in the pool for evening swim with a clear night sky.…

I'm a husband and father in my early 50s who has had some success with MFP over the last ten months. Perhaps I can give back while still working on my own goals.

After a fun Halloween, got in the pool today for 3050 yards in 71 minutes (2:20/100y pace). Nice and cool and heavy rain at times. Somewhat crowded as well, will be interesting to see if that continues as the weather gets colder.

After three dry days, a very nice 2500 in under an hour tonight. Light rain and three others to keep me company.

Played a little hooky to get in the pool at noon with the goal of doing 3000 yards in 90 minutes. Made it in 71. I think I'm going to need to start doing intervals to get my speed increased so I can get under an hour.

I tried the catch-up exercise and did not do well. Need some more practice. The data from my swim watch shows me that fewer strokes equals faster times, but I'm not aware when that is happening. I did manage to verify that more kicking slows me down considerably.

jumped in for what I thought would be a mild session and did a solid 50+ minutes. I thought I'd add a bit more kick to my freestyle and separated out that section and my tracking watch told me it slowed me down considerably. Quite interesting. @NoelFigart1 -- intrigued about adding some weights to my routine based on your…

2250 yards, 56 minutes. Tried to do backstroke for first time in 30 years. Amusing and ineffective are two words that come to mind. My shoulders don't know how to do that any more.

2400 yards in 54 minutes at 2:16/100 pace, my fastest yet. I have a mental block that is keeping me from getting to the 2500 distance within the hour window I have for evening lap swim.

2200 yards in just over 50 minutes. Felt faster, but the watch doesn't lie. Three other swimmers in the pool and it's getting full dark toward the 7pm start time now!

Was looking forward to breaking the 3000 yard barrier for the first time yesterday but forgot my swim watch. I'm quite bad at counting so just gave up and went by time. At my slower pace from a few weeks back, I should have achieved that goal and more, but I will have to verify next time I can get a long block of time in…

@emmab0902 - That made me chuckle. I think I'll have to go for 50s in November because I'm definitely not ready to more than double my current max distance. Last night felt really terrible in the pool. I don't know if it was what I had for lunch (a full size sub) or what, but felt really logy and slow and inconsistent. Did…

@fishgutzy - There are lots of videos out there -- if you could link to the one you found useful, I'd love to see it. On a related note... I was taught as a child to only breathe on one side. Coming off being unfit, this has meant breathing every two strokes. Now I'm at about half four strokes, half two, which is…

This is fantastic! I'm working up to being able to do two miles. I don't have enough time during the hour of evening lap swim. My NSV: Today I took almost ten minutes off my time for 2500 yards in the pool.

That is awesome progress, Stephen. I understand being sensitive about body image. I have a ways to go before I'm out of obese status myself. But I'm over 50 and don't give a rat's patootie what anyone thinks. That said, once you're in the pool, people can't really see much and they are focused on their own work anyhow.…

Have been going regularly, churning out 2000 or so yards at my usual slow pace. Today I had my first visit to a massage therapist to help with a back injury from a car accident (sorry to hear about yours @mpeters1965 ) and thought I'd be even slower this evening. But my pace improved by five seconds/100y and although sore,…

Fantastic work, everyone. Congrats Emma on your wins, those are great times. I just did quick (for me) mile swims over the weekend. A momentary breakthrough yesterday where I was faster with fewer strokes then it went back to my usual wriggle technique. I could use some coaching but don't want to use any of the ones that…

51 minutes, 2100 yards, 2:26/100 pace. PRs for 100, 200, 400 and 800. Light rain and one other swimmer in the pool for the first half hour. I hope they don't cancel this lap swim time. 7-8 pm works perfectly for me but if we don't get at least a couple more people showing up regularly, I'm afraid they'll shut it down.…

49 minutes, 2000 yards, 2:26/100 pace. Cool weather and two other swimmers. @fishgutzy : those are awesome distances you're getting. I don't think I have the patience (or the time) to try that in a 25y pool. @emmab0902 : good luck and have fun at your meet!

45 minutes, 1800 yards, 2:29/100 pace. Light rain and only one other swimmer in the pool.

Looks very interesting. It does more than the Garmin Swim, which only counts laps/strokes. Seems like a good deal. And it's nearly half the price of the Garmin. And now I will fight off my buyer's remorse.
-
Forgot my swim watch and lost track of laps after ten minutes. 45 minutes, a bit faster than yesterday. Nice and sunny.

Hello, new to the group. Started swimming last March after something like a 35 years hiatus. Or as someone said "a heckuva taper". Coming off a back injury from last weekend so took it easy tonight 1700 (yards) free 2:45/100 pace Had the pool to myself with three lifeguards. First time in months swimming with the lights on.

I'm now officially off BP meds and last blood work has me in a good range as far as A1C. My doc said "you made my day" when I was in last week.

Back in the '80s I had a lot of bandanas.

I don't have a sense of the space my body uses. I can fit where I could not before, but my brain doesn't believe that's the case, so I edge carefully around people on stairways and through doors and probably look pretty weird doing so.

My sense of balance is off, particularly when walking down stairs.

I have two young men living in my house that have no concept of what hard physical work means. I had to hire someone else's teenage sons to help dig a trench for a new household water line. My confession is that I'm not doing very well in the parenting department when it comes to telling my sons they're a couple of wimps.…

Nice work. Getting fit for swimming is (in my opinion) a level or two above walking or running!

To be clear, the cramping I'm getting is during the swim, not after. It's definitely related to pushing off the wall. I was optimistic that increasing my fitness level would make this go away but that's not the case. I was hoping for a magic bullet to fix this. I will do even more stretching as well and try some potassium.…
