I gained 36 pounds in 12 months when I was taking an antidepressant and occasional Xanax. I had been losing weight without trying previous to taking the meds, due to a serious anxiiety disorder. My doctor said the drugs didn't cause the weight gain and handed me a xeroxed 1200 calorie generic diet plan from the 1970s and…

Off-label prescribing can be so dangerous, especially something that is prescribed for seizures, migraines and bipolar disorder. I would really hate for people to get the idea of asking their doctors for Topamax just for weight loss, because many doctors might just comply. (See John Oliver's brilliant segment about this…

Not to throw shade on this discussion, but I read the MFP terms and conditions documents last week when I first entered the forums. There was a specific suggestion to avoid any thread with "1200" in the subject line, and then it went into a very logical justification for that.

I'm originally from Chicago, and we drove up into Wisconsin hundreds of times over the years. As near as we could tell, "University of Lawsonomy" wasn't a university at all. It was just a sign with block letters. Is that true? The first time I used an internet search engine, that was the first thing I looked up. No one…

Here, too, but before, not after my shower. I have very thick hair that holds about 8 oz of water, not to mention what's in my skin. Not too obsessive, huh?

Me too. I don't think being spoonfed meals out of a box is a good way to tackle a weight problem. Learning how to shop, prep and cook healthy meals are some of the most important life skills we ever learn. Plus, even if you're a bad cook, your meals are probably more satisfying than Nutrisystem's. I would go out of my mind…

I do remember that pyramid fad! Someone even built a pyramid house off of I-94 in southeast Wisconsin, and every time I drove up there, I wondered how they hung pictures and arranged furniture. I think the Pyramid Era was the one before the Miracle Magnets Era.

I make Emeril 's jambalaya recipe with chicken, shrimp and sausage and was surprised how doable it is on my plan. We love jambalaya!

My Accupedo pedometer app logged 250 steps while I was driving home from the grocery store and I didn't correct it.

Turkey burgers, green salad and oven fries. I ground up a Honeysuckle turkey breast last week, and we've never eaten ground turkey before, so this should be interesting. I told my husband to eat a big lunch. I'm using my Italian grandma's meatball recipe, but without the beef: diced onions, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic,…

I use an OXO digital kitchen scale that accommodates up to 11 pounds and measures in both metric and imperial. I'm now using it so often that I keep it on the counter all the time. It was a bit pricey at $50, but I use it every single day and I think it's a great value. When I enter a recipe, I do it after I've made the…

Why? That's such an interesting question that for years, I've had such a hard time answering. I lost 52 pounds in 1988 and got down to a size 8, looked great, felt great -- and absolutely hated the way people treated me. People who I was close to began to make too big a deal out of my new look. It was as though they were…

Before I began this journey one month ago today, I ate at night. Then I developed heartburn and acid reflux during the night. It was unbearable, so my solution was to take a Nexium every day. Now since ditching nighttime eating, I haven't taken one pill and haven't had any heartburn. Is anyone else bothered by indigestion…

The reason I have enjoyed this forum over the last couple weeks is that posts like this get some very well-earned shade thrown at them. Posts like this are the reason I've hated internet forums for so long. People actually believe this stuff. When I dispute them, I get flamed. So I leave. Let me tell you something about…

It would be copious amounts of my own cracker-crust pizza, easily the best pizza I've ever eaten, and with my own homemade sauce and sausage, to boot. For now, though, I just have two slices with a dinner salad and I'm good.

Well, when the OP said her toxins had "gone do I figured when the OP said her toxins had "gone down", she meant they settled in her feet, so thanks for saving me the trouble of looking up the name of these little miracle footsie things.

Activated charcoal was a godsend here -- for our dog who snarfed down half a chocolate cake. I doubt the protocol for treating our girl would apply to me, and if it did, I wouldn't want to clean the aftermath out of the rugs again. Gah.

Guilty -- I've been lurking. New here, but not to losing weight. I love this thread. I love this crowd. I usually hate internet forums because of the B.S. people buy into. I usually end up saying something that gets the moderator after me. So I'm just snorking at your snarking. Please don't ever let me respond to a post…

What are these "bad foods"? The only bad foods for me personally are overly processed foods and foods that purport to be healthy options when in fact, they aren't. It's true that shopping the outer aisle of a grocery store results in a healthier cart full of food and ingredients to make your own meals. But I shop the…

Referring to what Ana said way up there, that's me, too. I grew up with a mom who obsessed over every bite I ate, and it messed me up emotionally. Many foods were totally off limits to me, so of course, my response was to eat them -- and LOTS of them, a pattern that has continued my entire adult life. I often wonder if…

I've always made my own vinaigrette, and this is my favorite, which makes about 10-12 servings, about 50 calories for 2 Tbls. 2 Tbls. olive oil 6-8 Tbls white or raspberry balsamic vinegar 1 Tbls honey mustard 1 Tbls lemon juice 2 Tbls water 2 smashed cloves of garlic (remove after infusion, usually several hours) 1 tsp.…
