Apazman's advice is perfect. The whole trick is to enjoy life and love yourself at the same time. That means being good to yourself (including your body), forgiving yourself, allowing yourself to make mistakes, and appreciating all the pleasurable things in life (including delicious food). It's a balancing act for sure,…

Don't worry about cholesterol. Soul food is awesome! Bacon grease, butter, lard, and all that goodness that used to be the bad guy du jour - like sugar is now - is not bad for you. It's tasty, as you and I well know, and it's good for your bones, your hair, teeth, organs, immune system, your brain, eyes, everything. What…

Sugar touched me in a naughty place, then it apologized and said it would never do it again. But it did it again

I just type it in with my other hand

That cannot be understated I used to do crossfit WOD's from the main site after an army buddy turned me on to it. The programming was extremely random, and not healthy. At one point, we saw an entire MONTH of shoulder exercises. I came very close to tearing a rotator cuff, and had to go through a couple months of physical…

That is an excellent point It's impossible to predict when anyone will reach a plateau, but you'll know when it happens. Your progress stalls As far as calories go, once your DL and squat start getting anywhere near your body weight, it is almost guaranteed that you will need to consume more than 1,700 per day. As you lift…

Hell, I say give 'em something to gawk at. If they laugh and say mean things, who cares? They're crap, and they're ugly. You're not ugly. You're cute. Shake it

Sugar is a powerful dietary substance, and it is wise to respect it. It is unwise, however to deprive one's self of it. It is one of the many little joys in life. Don't deny your joy. It ain't good for the soul

In addition, high rep sets create a fluid pump which adds size. Over a period of time, this type of training increases capillary flow, and the muscles receive a more constant high volume of blood. Basically, it swells the muscles. Body builders employ a higher rep set scheme where size is important as well as raw strength.…

I like Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey

Nothing dumb at all about getting a power rack and training at home. If I had the bucks, I'd do it. Waiting for goofballs curling in the squat rack to finish their cheat sets gets old when you're pumped and ready to go

I pick quantity of quality. Is that right?

A perfectly natural yet un-hole-ly (get it? un-"hole"-ly? hah? hah?) love for those deliciously little yeasty rings..and doughnuts..is what got me to this point RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!

Tell those pros to tell that to Jennifer Nicole Lee

The thing you have to keep in mind is you are talking about scale weight, or overall body weight. Persons with large amounts of weight to lose, like yourself and me, will usually see rapid weight loss at first. A lot of that is water, some fat, and maybe a little lean tissue. 20lbs in 6 to 7 weeks, in your case, may be…

That kind of understanding in this age of the internet expert is impressive in itself. I learned that valuable lesson from watching tons of powerlifters, bodybuilders, crossfitters, and trainers, some pro, some not, get into nasty arguments that were pure factionalism and had nothing to do with fitness. It all really does…

I couldn't agree more about counting calories. While it's not necessary to be too nitpicky about it - unless you're a competition bodybuilder or you just really get off on counting calories - it's amusing how much resistance or dismissal there is to counting calories by many who want to recomp. It's pretty much common…

usmcmp, you are a champ! Your advice is spot on and you handle adversity like a pro

I got about 90 to lose. I plan on accomplishing that in about a year or two
-
Alicia, you may not even realize it, but you're already moving forward. Just the simple act of self-reflection and being honest about your tendencies is further than most people ever get their whole lives. You know what you have to do. You recognize that it takes time and patience, and that it's not easy I could sit here…

That's good that you're tired of it. You should be. Don't try to do too much, especially at first. Find something small that you're doing that you know is not helping you to lose weight (drinking soda, junk food, etc), then pick a date to start - doesn't have to be right this moment - and set a tiny goal of making that…

Hey Chris! You are definitely going in the right direction. Giving up soda and alcohol is right on the money. Whole foods are always preferable, but, and I know this might sound weird, not all processed foods are bad. Deli meats are processed, but can be part of a sound diet, same with breads and pastas (the keto and paleo…

Yeah, that's too bad because the attitude is priceless
-
Great job! 90lbs is no joke. Eating clean is the key. Keep it up!
-
Great attitude! Back in the 90's I got close to 300lbs - I'm 5'11" - and it took me a couple years to get down to 195, but I was in very good shape - such good shape that I joined the army as a grunt. Just be sure to stay patient and keep your eyes on the prize. Rock it steady man!

Feel free to add me. I'm just getting back into fitness too
-
Add me to if you want. I'm just getting back into it too
-
Hey, add me too. I also have a lot to lose, probably about 90 lbs or so. I put on a LOT of weight since I got out of the service
-
prattiger65, outstanding advice! Everybody feels those kinds of emotions, the trick is not to focus on them. Letting go can be hard, but it's extremely liberating, healthy, and an essential part of life. Holding on to the past is pointless and leads to misery. The number one rule of being human is that we all make…

Hypothyroid is rough. But that's awesome you are still able to lose weight. Just keep it going. Slow and steady
