  • I make sure that I have a dessert almost every day. I just plan for the calories, and still hit my daily limit goal. Maybe if you don't feel so restricted, the feeling of deprivation you feel will lessen and you won't be prone to panic eating.
  • Good heavens, your goals seem so reasonable to me. I’m sorry to hear about people publicly shaming you (that’s not an intervention, that was bullying). MFP calorie counting works. Keep up your logging, don’t mention what you’re doing to family and friends, just keep doing what you want to do.
  • I lived in Alaska for 18 years and my doctor recommended I get a SAD light. It’s for Seasonal Affective Disorder and It’s a bright lamp that (I think) is full spectrum light. I’d sit by it in the morning while I read the paper and drank coffee. It’s not an uncommon thing to use in those dark winter times. I found it…
  • Get a second opinion from another doctor
  • Same here. Last week I slipped and fell because the cleaning lady at my mom’s apartment complex over sprayed carpet cleaning fluid onto the laminate stair landing. It was just like ice. Anyway, standing hurts, sitting hurts, laying down hurts. I literally feel your pain!! Hope you get lots of rest and heal up soon.
  • Back injury this week for me, so no exercise at all. Ugh! Luckily I have developed those logging habits and am hitting my daily calories. Hope you and I both recover quickly!
  • You could substitute in a yogurt/fruit/milk smoothie for some of the water. Eat a handful of nuts or half an avocado as another snack. Peanut butter or an ounce of cheese might help, too. You didn’t say how many calories you’re eating a day so I can’t understand completely what’s going on with you. If you need to eat more,…
  • Yes, eat more. I lost weight at 1200 to 1600 calories a day. Unfortunately, I was losing too quickly. I started losing hair. I lost muscle mass, which made my arms look bad to me. So there really are risks. Your heart is a muscle, too.
  • I lost 5 pounds more than my goal weight. In two months I gained up to where I want to be. Now wearing size 6 jeans (skinny style) instead of size 12/14 (straight leg). Feeling great!
  • You may not get that huge endorphin thing, but be sure to let yourself feel proud of your exercise accomplishment. That gives me a happy feeling, which is more subtle than an endorphin high, but it’s still a positive outcome.
  • LOL @JeromeBarry1 ! I had to look up what a chordate is. Apparently they develop the exit in their rear ends before their mouths. Don’t know how that relates to how energy is burned, butt it’s very interesting.
  • I have a friend who asked if my weight loss was deliberate, hinting that she was concerned I had cancer! I wasn’t even at my goal weight. I suppose grandma’s, though, feel like a major part of their way to the express love is to feed the people they love. Don’t get defensive, just give her a big hug and say something kind…
  • Cashews and almonds for me. I don’t know how to rank them as far as which are healthiest so I just go for the pleasure of eating them.
  • I think MFP changes to the next day at midnight so just log it. It’s basically a very early breakfast.
  • Does it really take you an hour to walk one mile? An average walking pace is about a mile every 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Ha! Log the calories. I had a cupcake or two today & logged them both. No big deal. Do better tomorrow.
  • Well, your friends respect you don’t they? So eat a little of everything offered, when finished say something like “that was so good!”, put your napkin down next to the plate and get yourself a cup of something to drink. Maybe tea? Decaf? If you’re pressured to eat just one more thing, smile and decline politely. That’s it.
  • Tell yourself you’re satisfied. Fake it ‘til you make it! Then go take an after dinner stroll.
  • Okay, lose at whatever rate your impatient self wants. I lost at 1200 calories a day at a rate of about 2 pounds a week, then it slowed . Thirty pounds down to goal weight in five months. Started losing hair and a lot of muscle mass in my arms. I look great in clothes and droopy and floppy naked. If I had it to do again I…
  • I weigh every day. I measure whenever I feel like it.
  • Visit doctor. Ask for MRI to see if any tears. Rest. Physical therapy as advised by doctor. Don’t listen to us internet advisors, we’re not doctors. Don’t exercise at all without doctor’s clearance.
  • We just ordered 10 boxes. They freeze great, and the calories leach out in the cold. Right?
  • Don’t wait to exercise. It’ll help you retain muscle mass.
  • When I lived in Anchorage, Alaska the local running store would add screws to the soles of your shoes for $10. Worked much better than YakTrax. When ice season was over, they’d remove them for free.
  • Definitely use lighter weights for now. And ask the instructor after class to see if you’ve got proper form. And do the class every other day so you get some muscle recovery.
  • Walk about 5 minutes to warm up. Then do your stretches. Cold muscles don't appreciate the insult. Certainly go to a running store to evaluate your gait. If your foot has to flop to avoid pain, you're not helping yourself at all. I went to a running store, they checked out how I walked and jogged in five different pairs of…
  • When I tore my Achilles, my physical therapist didn't clear me for regular exercise for about 8 weeks. It took a long time to heal. He had me doing some targeted moves to strengthen those muscles. I'd say don't worry about returning to workouts, and concentrate on your calorie deficit. It's boring, I know, but it does take…
  • Wow, I had a torn meniscus (I twisted it to avoid getting hit by a car when I was in a crosswalk and an idiot driver ignored the stop sign). Ouch! Honestly, I'd recommend not doing much after your work day. You're already putting a lot of stress on your joints and muscles during your job. My doctor referred me to a…
  • I did it this past summer and found that I was jogging too fast at the beginning. Slow down. I was running by myself, so I actually started talking out loud to myself so that I better regulate that slower speed. They say you're going the right speed for you if you can carry on a conversation while you run. I'm sure that I…
  • I personally need cardio keep boredom at bay. I absolutely hate treadmills and Stairmasters and ellipticals because there's nothing to see. So I run outside and the scenery is great, and I have to pay attention to proper gait and not tripping over rocks. On rainy days I take a one hour Zumba class. Again, that adds a…
