Don't do anything new. Make sure you know where you can park and how to get to the start line from there. Be early enough that you can use the port o potty before the race, there will be long lines. Pick up your bib the day before if possible. And don't over do it the first couple of miles. Good luck!

You may find that along your fitness journey as you take strides(haha running pun) to make yourself a healthier, happier more fulfilled person some people may not be supportive. I don't know if it comes from jealousy or personal regret or even if it's part of your mother in law's personality but don't let it keep you from…

Don't take running advice from people who don't run.

"Run short or run long" I had hoped was the first line of an inspirational haiku. Alas, I mix it up I do a couple of short runs, a medium recovery and a long run each week. If I need to drop a workout it's usually one of the short ones. My shorter runs are timed runs and the other two are distance runs. Anything that gets…

Yes it is doable! in your training sign up for some shorter distance races, 5k and 10k, you will be surprised by the diversity of runners from age to build.

Find a doctor you don't mind seeing. RICE until you can get in to see them. If you can hardly use stairs I would not be walking for the purpose of exercise. It would be a great time to fix your machine while resting.

I was surprised by how welcoming and supportive the running community is.

If you keep running 5k on the treadmill will you eventually get faster? You will have to change a variable to change the result. If you are losing weight you probably will be able to run at a faster pace but maybe you should switch up you workouts. If you are already on the treadmill for 40 minutes I would try a 5 minute…

this is an excellent reason to actually run a race. I would consider finding a 10k training program for active runners and complete it even if you don't intend to run a race at the end of it. Most include different types of training runs, which brings me to my next point. My 10 k race pace is about 8 minutes per mile but…

I look for leggings or tights that are "brushed" those are the kind that will keep you warm. I layer usually a wicking tank, a cold gear base layer and a vest. Then of course hats and mittens. If it's snowing I like to throw on a pair of latex gloves on under my mittens, they keep hands extra dry and warm. If it's below 20…

I had a lateral release of my it band and some cartilidge cleaned out in July and didn't start running until October. While I recovered my quad got very weak. My running ability was only able to progress as quickly as my quad did. I would not have been successful without the help of a good PT. take it slow and listen to…

Don't do it. You are increasing your long run by almost a third. But it's not just about the distance races are hard on the body, your pace is usually faster than what you run while training. It's too close to your real race that you don't want to risk getting injured. I really think you should let this one pass by.

Chalean extreme.

I would buy a nice pair of shoes. Knowing how much I paid garuntees I will use them enough to get my money's worth. I'm glad you are seeing your doctor but a general physician will likely not be very informative. You would be better off seeing a pt. Lastly, with more running will come the ability to gauge the different…

If you do a good job fueling after a run you won't get so hungry you eat irresponsibly. I learned the hard way. I run enough I can maintain my weight without being super restrictive in my diet. But when I am injured I put weight on quickly unless I'm careful. As you increase mileage I would consider not running 5 or 6…

Do you walk on the shoulder of the left side of the road? Is there an incline causing your right leg to be elevated higher than your left?
-
I don't typically stretch after resistance training but if I skip it after a run I get very stiff especially in my hamstrings and hips stay tight. It has a huge impact for me.
-
I run a lot. For me it's the first 8 or so minutes. After that I'm feeling good. It's part of the reason that I rarely run those short distances.
-
You can do it! I'm surprised they would only keep the course open for 45 minutes. That seems low especially for a turkey trot but regardless you can do it. I would not even focus on running right now. I would look into c25k and power walk or walk at a faster pace during the "run intervals". Then maybe do another round but…

Pt from a physical therapist? Oh yeah, sometimes it will hurt. I don't know what's wrong with your knee so I don't know if you should push through or not. After my knee surgery my quad had atrophied while I recovered and coming back all exercises hurt and I pushed through and am now feeling great. Or, you could have an…

I say yes to cake. What's the point of working hard most of the time if you can't have cake at a party?

Runningintheusa.com is the best! I always wish there were more15k, that's my favorite race distance.

Eh. "Barely Dressed" I'm guessing I'm guessing you mean sports bra and shorts. . . Both are examples of athletic clothing, garments whose sole purpose is to be worn while doing exercise. It's not inappropriate. I don't understand why that's a valid reason to be objectified and sexualized. I have, at times, run in a sports…

There have been some really great and informative replies to this but I just wanted to add my bit. I run 4 days a week for caring distances and purposes. I have been running for years. But during every run, usually .75 miles in, I feel tired or my sock hurts or my knee feels weird or I'm cold or wish I had chosen a…

This is not true, probably, and if you go on believing that 6 minute mileS is an average for serious runners when you get to a 10 minute pace it won't feel like a huge victory. An average pace of consecutive 6 minute mileS is pretty astounding. I have been running for a long time and consider myself pretty fast, for my…

I would start slow and if you feel up to it continue with an easy pace for a few miles. Conventional wisdom says to skip it but unless I am bed ridden with illness I always feel better after a run and a shower.

I had knee surgery that sidelined me for 3 months. When I started running again I had to completely start over. It was frustrating. Wanting to run but having to heal and rest was frustrating. Every time The weather, or my schedule, or how tired I am tempts me to blow off a run I remember how I felt a couple of months ago.…

Whenever I feel that pain I look down and sure enough I have my hands clenched. Relax your hands and arms. Shoulders should be back and down. it makes a huge difference.

I'm not sure what your weight gain is due to. It could also be hormonal. But, I can't help but question your training plan. You are lifting a lot to be training for a marathon at the same time. You might get better results in general if you focus more on building running endurance and limit lifting to a couple of days a…

Make sure you find a doctor that will support you in your goals. My second pregnancy I found a new doctor, a runner, who was very encouraging and supportive. Then have an honest discussion with them. following the gestational diabetes diet is a great way to learn about macros and portion control. I don't think you should…
