  • A major heartburn attack and unable to fit clothes I wore just six months ago. A general sense of unwellness too. And the thought that I live in an area where I have access to probably some of the best food in the world and I'm eating crap ...why?
  • Smaller plates. Check. Do not each packaged/processed foods. Check. I'm not big on leafy greens, so I do prefer frozen veggies that I stir fry. Just watch for too much sodium (more of a problem with canned veggies). Nuts have saved me many times from overeating. Plain, raw nuts, any variety. You don't want…
  • Watching Supersize vs. Superskinny really helped me understand that skinny people are NOT eating the same volumes of food I was over time, even though they may still just live on candy bars and soda and fries. Is that film on Netflix? I try really hard not to notice what/how much others are eating. It feels intrusive. I…
  • Store clerks employ irony.
  • Glad you enjoyed them!
  • Shrimp and vegetable curry from a can.
  • It does creep up on you. I have big clothes and loose pants and I ignored it until I couldn't zip a pair of pants I wore a year ago. Good luck! Just a few pounds and that BMI will drop.
  • I think civility is the key. Making a snarky comment because you think it is cute or funny doesn't seem helpful. Just because the internet is rife with rudeness doesn't mean that should the standard. I get it sometimes. The writer might think the person posting is whining or too self serious and you might want to poke at…
  • You sound quite young. You need to learn that your granny will always love you even if she is trying to guilt you into eating. She may always grumble about your eating habits. Just accept it as love & concern and move on. If she grumbled about your hairstyle would you feel weird? I hope not. Good luck.
  • You already sound very prepared. But...
  • It is hard to make new friends if you are beyond college. Maybe volunteer if you have time? It gives you a shared purpose and a reason to chat. Or find a hiking group?
  • Maybe take a mental break from mirrors. Negative self talk doesn't help any of us. I know it is hard to turn off. But if you try I am sure you did something great/helpful/kind/smart today that had nothing to do with your weight. Good luck.
  • Sherrydarling you are so right about getting into the gym. I get it done when I am there. So thank you. I was grumpy this morning.
  • My own yoyo patterns annoys me. I have never been a fad diet person. My friends do juicing and fasting and cabbage diets. I am on a three year yoyo cycle. One year to lose, about six months stable, six months of ignoring good habits and then four months of denial that I have gained all the weight back. The slippage is so…
  • Severe heartburn woke me up! I lost my mojo last summer. Angry emotional eating. Felt like I couldn't control anything and took being healthy for granted. At my age staying healthy requires work. But man severe heartburn feels awful. I felt it between my shoulder blades. Sharp! And motivation was back. I may get ill one…
  • When I am at my most disciplined I can portion things but before then I try to buy small packages. Not cost effective but neither is being too heavy. After a few weeks of measuring you will get a better sense of real portions. Smaller plates help too! I never use my dinner plates. I do have massive mugs for my tea.
  • I gave up rice and bread for a year but it couldn't last for me. Not a sustainable lifestyle choice. But good for you. Bread is not essential in a modern diet. We are so spoiled with choices!

  • Oh I binge. Just try to get back to your regular routine and not let the binge become the routine. Maybe get moving a bit more too. Just a bit to compensate. My thin friends do that. They have a food heavy weekend and then go for longer runs the following week. I am not quite so disciplined!
  • Also fatty foods like peanut butter and avocados and nuts will fill you up more. Fat stays in your system longer. I love cheese too but the saturated fat is a bit high. But I do get a lot of flavor from just an ounce or two.

  • Then maybe try splitting your calories in half and have a 1150 calorie dinner. I think you need to listen to your own rhythms. You don't want to be miserable. :)

  • I think many of us have done the same thing. I think feeling angry for a bit is normal. But don't dwell too long. You might want to figure out why you stopped caring. I stress eat mindlessly. So keeping a lifelong food diary may need to be a lifestyle choice for me. Good luck. You probably will feel better in a week or…
  • Instead of fighting your normal hunger pattern maybe try to modify it more gently. Allow yourself a 800 calorie dinner but make sure to eat more throughout the day so you aren't starving. Ideally you should never be REALLY hungry. How many calories are you allowing yourself?

  • Oh I feel you. Age & slower metabolisms suck! I am pretty resigned to the fact I will always be chubby. But I hope to be a healthy active chubby. Have you found a good way to exercise?

  • Up thread a guy just posted. I do think women like to chat more. Stereotypical. And I have seen some guys do logical count your darn calories posts. One guy did a math formula! I have been in eating support groups so I know guys have emotions around weight loss but generally their angst seems lower.
  • It was okay. I upped my cardio by 5 min. I worked at having a variety if foods so I don't get bored. Not drinking is sometimes hard but that's a lifestyle choice I have made. I don't want to replace chocolate with wine! ;). Measured my waist and hips. That was an ug moment. But otherwise holding steady.
  • Agreed. Enjoy your bacon. No failure.

  • Just for today I will drink 3 glasses of water and increase my protein.
  • It is really refreshing to hear higher numbers. I think it is too to get fixated on a specific number. I have friends who freak when they go over X number. So thanks for sharing.
  • I am like you but an inch shorter. I haven't been below 150 since my early twenties. I am very happy at 145. Not skinny (I have never been remotely skinny), but comfortable and confident. Trust yourself. I think a healthy BMI is a great goal.
  • I love sweets and salty things too but I refuse to add to the profits of the fast food industry. Plus if you want something delicious slow down and enjoy it. Don't feel guilty but be aware. No mindless eating. It's not always easy. I like watching movies and snacking. Good luck. You can do this.
