Bulk of my runs are 115-132 HR. A 10k race would be 160. Time on your feet is king - never feel like you're "not working hard enough". The whole point of 80/20 is the easy is really easy so you can get out the next day, and the next, and the next, etc. It takes years of consistent running to make long term changes (and not…

More Garmin wackiness - didn't wear the HRM but same bike/route/powertap: Distance: 17.04 km Time: 36:26 Avg Speed: 28.1 km/h Elevation Gain: 103 m Calories: 569 C Avg Temperature: 12.1 °C Avg Power: 158 W Max Avg Power (20 min): 172 W Normalized Power (NP): 175 W Intensity Factor (IF): 0.876 Training Stress Score…

Ok so assuming a 26 min 5k your paces seem ok for your hard runs. Maybe try your easy a touch quicker like in 9:30 to 10:30 range but should still feel easy... I'd be hunting for more mileage (extending existing or adding) in small pieces. 5 mins here, 5 there. Nothing wrong with going 1:45-2:00 on the long run either…

If you are 155bpm at 11:30 extend existing easy runs (even a bit slower) and add 1 or 2 more if you can find the time. Have you ever run 5k or 10k fast (ideally a race)?

I have been wearing my HR strap (for myfitnesspal more than anything) but as you know with lack of hard sweating it's sporadic. I just assumed the work/cals would have been PM only. This morning's commute: Avg HR: 123 bpm (probably) Max HR: 182 bpm (no) The saturday 3 hr easy ride one: My max hr is somewhere around 175…

Just what garmin connect is pulling from the upload. Not using cheetah or anything: Avg Power: 167 W Max Power: 478 W Max Avg Power (20 min): 170 W Normalized Power (NP): 178 W Intensity Factor (IF): 0.892 Training Stress Score (TSS): 54.5 Work: 416 kJ Here's another one from Saturday - seems a touch low in my mind as well…

Avg Power: 167 W Normalized Power (NP): 178 W Distance: 22.68 km Time: 46:01 Avg Speed: 29.6 km/h Elevation Gain: 126 m Calories: 369 C Avg Temperature: 11.2 °C From this morning. That's 20 mph, in the foothills and wind. You burn a lot less on the bike than you think. It's not fair but it is what it is. I wish there were…

No shame in doing it from the knees or on an incline as long as it's challenging. Once the knees are too easy then move up. Also there's nothing to say you can't try something like 2 good form full pushups then the rest from knees per set.

I have a ton of Garmin stuff including about 4 chest straps. I bought the Mio link as an alternative for running and I usually end up fighting with it several times a session to the point where I only use it when NOT running (recovery or biking on trainer). I've played with it being really really tight so no light gets in,…

"the trick is to keep losing weight until your friends and family ask you if you've been sick. then you know you're within 10 pounds. if they start whispering to each other, wondering if you've got cancer or aids, you're within 5. when they actually do an intervention, you're at race weight." - Slowman (Dan Empfield) I'm…

They are useful if you compare to yourself on the same scale. Ie, the absolute number might be off, but 10% is leaner than 15% is leaner than 20% on any of those scales. Even the dunk tanks aren't all that accurate and calipers depend on the person using them. If 4 weeks from now you are only down 1 pound but the bodyfat…

Find out which class of shoes you need (there are 3 choices). Once you know the kind of shoe you need, it's a matter of what feels best for the price. Don't cross types - if you are neutral don't buy shoes meant for pronators - it's not worth the injury/pain risk. Most running stores around here are color coded to the 3…

With Walking/Running, it's less variable in that you, me, a 400lb guy, whoever - are carrying their body mass from point A to B fighting gravity the whole way, and will expend energy. Sure faster guy burns more but it's a percentage not double/triple. The "body weight in pounds * miles run * .65" or "1 cal per kg per km"…

Biking and swimming burn way less calories than you think. People often over-eat during training cycles because they over-state their caloric burn.
