We are all wired differently, so I can't tell you what's best for you, but I can tell you what I would do for myself. I'd try to break the connection between food and exercise first of all, especially since it doesn't seem to work to your benefit anyway. This may sound like a strange advice as both nutrition and exercise…

MFP gives you a 50/20/30 split for carbs, proteins and fats. That's plenty of carbs (I fail to meet mine despite trying) and yes you should be able to lose eating this way. 4 days of stalling means nothing. My weight hasn't moved for 3 weeks recently and then dropped in one day and keeps dropping despite no changes in my…

Cheat days make me feel like I have to eat everything I can possibly get my hands on as long as I'm allowed to, so I don't do those. I do eat ice-cream and chocolate almost every day though, sometimes few times a day even. I just make sure the portions are small enough to fit into my calorie goal and do not rob me of the…

I'm on the market for one of those not as much to motivate me do something but to measure my progress and give me milestones to race against. Unfortunately I haven't found my perfect one with compact form factor, decent battery, GPS, accurate HR, smart alarm, phone notifications, a screen showing progress and time and…

I have 2 kitchen scales - one for the table I cook on and another for the table I eat at. Also a notepad and a pen. Putting the plate on the scales before starting to put things on it and writing a quick number on the paper is too simple to be bothered by it. I also have a light laptop somewhere near the table and log my…

I've seen 5 neurologists in 2015 so far. One gave me a quick fix that lasted a month and affected my weight, 2 didn't bother to do anything at all and sent me to check other aspects of my health, one has subscribed me a light tranquilliser to battle panic attacks caused by the issue and latest one said everyone before her…

The biggest problem here is that those exercises you mentioned are mostly symmetrical, which makes sense. I can see it being safer this way. But for me it means 3-3.5kg per hand tops, which doesn't promise much of a challenge. Maybe after I lose 30-40kgs I pay neurologist another visit and ask if that buys me a couple more…

Thanks for advice, everyone. I have no plans of becoming a bodybuilder or a fitness model. I'm just looking for the ways to lose weight effectively and not look skinny yet obviously out of shape when I'm done. My doctor is not really 'mine' unfortunately. I was undergoing a treatment in a gov clinic past few weeks and now…

I like the bike, I also ride a real one when I can, but when it comes to workouts the stationary bike kills my knees. So I went with an elliptical and have no regrets.

Thanks for the links. This was definitely an interesting read and not just about the weight loss but also some general concepts I was not 100% familiar with. For me weekly weight-ins are already a way to average out the results I'm getting a little compared to daily spikes that I expect to be crazier. I don't see those…

The app doesn't mean to starve you most likely. You just seem to have tastes that lean that way. I for one can never meet my carbs even with sweets added but I constantly go over suggested fats. We have drastically different weight situations, so I don't know if it's of any help but my diary is open. Feel free to have a…

I'm new and not yet sure how this whole friend thing works here but I'm open for it. I've been logging religiously for 10 days on this site and 3 weeks more on another one before it. No plans to stop. It's almost a second nature now.

Thank you for encouraging words. It feels really nice to have a stranger spend few minutes of their precious time on wishing you well and saying it's gonna be alright. I'll just keep going. Thankfully, I'm not fuelled by motivation this time. I've started with almost none of it for a number of reasons and I don't regret…

Logged my week 4 results this morning. -0.3kg (-0.66lb) from my week 3 results, bringing me back to the result of week 2. But I was seeing +0.4kg (+0,88lb) to the very same reference point just the morning before. I can't trust any of the results right now it seems. But I'm pretty certain I haven't lost 2kgs I planned to…

Hi and welcome. This board is full of supportive people and I hope you find all the encouragement you need and some more. But the thing is, I don't think you really need any. Even if no one notices you trying, even if the world wishes for you to fail, you still can do it. Because all the ingredients for success are there…

First of all, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. I can't even begin to imagine how awful that felt. Kudos to you for choosing to come out of it stronger. My reasons are much more simple. I've been overweight all of my life. And there's just this point in one's life when you realise that you can't put off dealing…

Same problem here. MFP gives me 40g/day and I keep getting around 60. The app I used before gave me 50g but I was still at 60. It's my magic number it seems.

I'm not in North America and not being there has a bunch of downsides unfortunately. For example Body Media does not ship to my country and if I purchase through re-sellers, the price will be ridiculous (about 1.5 of my therapist's monthly salary for example) and warranty repairs would be a pain if available at all. There…

I've been eating things I liked till satisfied for most of my life. Just a little was never enough. But once I started counting calories and really paying attention to food I eat and how I feel about it, I've realised it's the very first bite/gulp that has the biggest pleasure impact on me. That's when I meet the smell and…

I'm looking for a lifelong change rather than a temporary fix and a diet with high fat and very low carbs just does not sound right to me. Maybe I'm being stupid but I'd rather stick to a more neutral plan. So I'll have to up the carbs it seems. I have a lot of options as I currently don't eat breads, pasta or rice but…

I'm actually looking for a way to lower my fats a little. I meet my proteins on most of the days, I tend to go a bit over with my fats and I make like 1/3 of my carbs, which makes my fats % even bigger in the whole diet. The Mifflin-St. Jeor formular gives me 60-80 less. So to lose 1kg I should be 1000 short of 2200 which…

I've been doing fine calories wise past few days, staying within +/-50 cals to 1200. I do not find this limit uncomfortable, at least for now. It allows me enough food to feel full + a dessert. I've tried that calculator before but I don't know my fat% unfortunately, so it refuses to give me results. I used the…

It's something that just happened naturally when I changed the quality of the food I eat. Meat, veggies, fruit and cottage cheese don't fill up those numbers fast. Also I'm still sick, so my appetite is naturally low. I planned to get to 1300 average at least even after the gain on Week 3 but MFP gave me 1200, so I'm…

I've been a tea addict for years but I didn't care about the kinds of tea that much. Any tea would do. But recently I've developed love for Chinese teas. I treat myself and my family members to a small ceremony or two pretty much every day. There's something really nice and calming about pouring all that water and drinking…
