You're right - I think we are mostly in agreement. I can appreciate the frustration at having people blame society, because that is unfortunately very prevalent also.

I see nothing about what I said that prohibits the person having power to undo it? Not to mention the sentence you quoted has a disclaimer stating that I agree with the general sentiment - just not the approach. I'm not sure what your disagreement with my post is. If you've read anything I've posted, I am firmly in the…

I believe I prefaced my statement with "I don't agree with everything tomatoey says." I still disagree that the quoted statement somehow absolves a person of responsibility. It says the person needs to work harder against societal norms, which I would agree with. I have a history with an ED, which I take full…

While I don't agree with everything tomatoey has posted, I do know that no one is saying that obese people have no responsibility for their condition, only that there are larger, social structures at play to consider. Society and psychology have their part in the discussion - it doesn't mean that we absolve someone of…

Unless she is a nurse practitioner, then she should not be acting like a doctor, no. Doctors go through significantly more training to have the occupational right to advise patients medically, no matter how much a nurse thinks she knows. The ICU is about saving patients' lives, so I'm wondering why anyone thinks it's the…

People lose weight on low-carb diets only if they have also reduced their calories to a deficit. If your TDEE is above 1800-2000 calories, then yes, you will lose weight eating 1800-2000 calories (hint: most people on these forums eat around that level without eating low-carb). You would lose the exact same amount of…

If you want to take advantage of the free meal, just eat less of it.

There is nothing wrong with the foods you listed in regards to weight loss or health. You do not know what this coworker's overall diet looks like. I eat brownies, won-tons, egg rolls, chips, etc., and I've had no trouble losing weight. Maybe your coworker is negative because she thought that the rest of you knew more…

He paid for our home gym (about $3,500 up front) so that I could work out whenever I wanted/needed to. He's the cook in our family, so he asks me what I'd like to eat (or what I have calories left for) every day so he can buy/prepare it. He even asked me to teach him about the app I use for logging and show him how to do…

I use Kernel Season's Kettle Corn seasoning. It's not pure sugar, but those seasonings always stick pretty well for me if I pour on hot popcorn.

No one thinks Diet Coke is a magic drink that somehow makes you lose weight supernaturally. No one has ever thought that, and you're making it up to make fat people who drink diet soda seem stupid. If a person replaces regular soda with diet soda and makes no other changes, they WILL lose weight, because they could be…

I'm trying to figure out how my son was diagnosed with autism at 18 months before he had ever had a drink with artificial sweetener in it. The medical criteria for diagnosing autism has expanded, thus the number of individuals diagnosed has grown.
-
It's so strange that you did that twice. But yes, eat more.
-
My son has autism (mild), but his primary diagnosis is intellectual disability. In some ways, he's like any other 12 year old. In many ways, he's still a toddler.

If OP had said, "Other people are your biggest problem in weight loss" and left it at that, I would agree that he needs to take responsibility for his own weight. However, he immediately followed it with his actions to rectify how much say other people have in his eating choices. Other people/social situations were/are my…

Also, if you're only weighing once a week or month or whatever, you're less likely to be seeing accurate data. The trends are more helpful than the individual numbers.
-
I weigh myself every day. It's helpful for a few reasons. Seeing the daily fluctuations will help you see your own body's trends and give less power to the number you're seeing. It's not scary to see that you've "gained" three pounds from yesterday when you know from experience that it's just time of the month and will go…

Weight fluctuates ALL THE TIME. Water, fat, muscle, waste, etc. Maybe you're retaining water from sodium or from your new fitness regimen. Maybe you just need to use the restroom. Regardless, if you are legitimately weighing your foods with a digital scale and logging every bite to add up to 1260 cals per day, then you…

It's actually a nice inspiration for me to think that I can also eventually "break" from the obsessive counting for a while. You seem to be doing really well just trying to be mindful/aware. It's funny that your SO views your new habits as "not having to worry" when you feel like you think about it all the time. Congrats…

Unless she SAID this to you, you are making assumptions about her motives, and then treating her with a bad attitude based off your assumptions. I get it, her tone was rude. How does that equate to the bolded statement above? Maybe she legit just thought she knew more than you (which, according to all other responses here,…

I can see where you're coming from as far as wanting to be left alone at the gym. I wanted my alone-time so much that I spent a fortune to create a complete home gym rather than go to a public one. I get that part. But these women sound like sincere, nice coworkers that you want to continue to be friends with. If that is…

I went a year+ drinking nothing but Sprite Zero and some tea, and I never got dehydrated. It didn't affect my weight, my skin, or even my teeth. (Hint: Sprite Zero is also water) I drink water now because I like it, but I don't track it or carry around a Pinterest-style gallon jug of it.

I like the Panera dressings you can buy in the refrigerated section. Very low cal for 2 tbsp and I think they taste great. My favorites are the poppyseed and the Asian sesame.

I also plan out my meals, but I've also experienced what you are describing, OP. Sometimes planning out my meals just makes it worse, because I feel so unsatisfied with the meal before I even eat it. In my experience, it usually works itself out and I'll get my appetite back. If there is any one food you are craving, it…

I live near Humpback, down in the Shenandoah Valley. I have always loved the hike up there! Definitely a work out, but the views are worth it.
-
Haha! It most accurately depicts my growing frustration with this thread.

I came here to try and post something useful, but luckily the OP convinced me that she has a rare medical condition that completely relieves her of any personal responsibility for her current weight.
