  • My profile pic is of one of my breakfasts during a Vegas trip (while I was still struggling with a binge/purge ED). And that was after I'd already eaten 3 slices of that chocolate covered bacon. After "breakfast," I grabbed a full sized bag of Cheetos, a shareable bag of Skittles, and a few snack cakes for the hour long…
  • I get what you're saying. Personally, I hate the taste of coffee on it's own. I do really love a sugary, syrup-flavored cup of milk with a little coffee/espresso thrown in. ;) There are some skinny coffee recipes that I've found online that were pretty good. For the most part, it's just something I've cut out because it's…
  • I am someone that has always liked a large plate of veggies or a salad. I don't really like filling up my plate with the potatoes/pastas that tend to come with family functions. I used to scoop some on my plate and eat it, even though I didn't want to, just because of the social aspect of the situation. Once I decided to…
  • I was a lurker who was helped by an I'm-addicted-to-carbs thread when the "moderation police" showed up to let OP know she didn't have to eliminate anything. I had an ED that included a lot of binge eating, which was hard not to fall back into when I first started thinking I had to eat a certain way. Since learning that…
  • If the class is boring, then you're more likely to follow through with your second option. I personally would want to go on my own time and do my own routine with heavy weights.
  • Kickboxing, weightlifting, Barre classes (more for the social aspect, but the exercises aren't bad either), and treadmill/Netflix. :)
  • I agree with the others that you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. I will also say it might be beneficial to look at Tim Horton's nutritional info and determine ahead of time what some good, lower calorie options might be for you should you ever find yourself in a rush again. I have my go-to items at all of the…
  • Absolutely agree with this post. Type 2 diabetics that go very low carb will still have glucose in their blood from their liver and from protein they eat. Which means their insulin resistance is still an issue, even with a low carb diet. It becomes more manageable, sure, but still a problem. Type 2 can be reversed when a…
  • I recognize that I'm about to hand out unsolicited advice, so I apologize if this comes across as anything other than trying to be helpful. I don't follow a strict one-meal-a-day plan, but I do it often because I also enjoy being able to eat a large meal with family without having to pass up on things. However, just be…
  • There are a lot of ideas about nutrition out there. Most approaches to weight loss will work, but ONLY because those approaches create a calorie deficit. Meaning you eat fewer calories than what you burn (daily living burn, not just exercise). Protein does help to fill you up, but some people prefer carbs in the morning.…
  • So is being intimidated at the gym because of being overweight, yet you think that is a perfectly legitimate concern for people to have.
  • You're praising PF for providing an atmosphere free of judgement for overweight people or newbies to fitness. At the same time, you're dismissing concerns of those that feel completely judged and intimidated by PF's practices. I was new to weight lifting and thought a judgement free zone would be a great place to start.…
  • Just my personal experience here, but DeguelloTex's approach on these forums ABSOLUTELY helped me, for exactly the reason he stated. Just as moderation didn't work for you and others, elimination does not work for many people. When I first started using MFP forums, I thought I HAD to eliminate certain foods, because that's…
  • I used to drink four Monster Ultras by noon every day at work, and then go pick up a few more. Weekends were tough, because I would have caffeine headaches before I even had the chance to wake up. I stopped drinking all caffeine mid-May of this year. It was painful and miserable at first and I did feel like I was dragging.…
  • I'm not sure how disabled people got brought into this at all. Of course people with disabilities can be trainers. There are many excellent athletes that have physical or mental disabilities. I would not have a concern in the world about hiring a disabled trainer. But being fat is not a disability. And if you have gained…
  • IIFYM works for a lot of people because it means being able to eat the things you already want to eat anyway. If the high fat diet is making you gag, I'm glad you're choosing to go a different route. I would assume that the 4 lb is water weight, since it's only been four days. But the weight will come off with IIFYM also!
  • This is so strange...
  • Amazing progress! I agree with the others that it looks like way more than 25 lbs lost. :)
  • As others have mentioned, a PT can be fairly expensive. You are basically their employer. It does make sense to research and find out the qualifications, for sure. However, if I was a business owner, I wouldn't hire an accountant who made it known in their interview that they'd just filed bankruptcy for the second time, no…
  • Yeah, this place I'm at is way more casual than my last work environment. My last job was one of those "end up dealing with HR" places. It was miserable. And that is lucky! :)
  • It is! Especially when movie popcorn/snacks aren't even my favorite. I love a bag of Target popcorn and it's way easier to fit that into my daily calories than a small, unbuttered Regal popcorn. My last movie binge (of which I walked in with great intentions!) included a large, buttered popcorn, a cookie ice cream…
  • The rule in our office is if you make microwaved popcorn, make enough for everyone. ;) But I also worked in a place that would have someone thrown out the window for making it. I accidentally burned a bag once there...never again haha.
  • To be honest, my original comment about "they can deal" because I have to smell their yummy food, was completely tongue-in-cheek and making light with another user's comment. Which is why I was confused as to why you picked my post to respond with essentially "I guess that means I can puke and people have to deal", since…
  • You responded to me, specifically, about a specific scenario I proposed. The reaction of the offended relates to this topic, so I don't see why it can't be brought up? OP DID ask what we would do personally. I explained what I would do and why - which is that I wouldn't care because my office environment doesn't require me…
  • Uh, no. That was not my reasoning at all, actually. As I said in a previous post, I don't work "next" to anyone. I don't peel hard boiled eggs "next" to anyone. I have a private office that is sectioned off from my coworkers down the hall. They smell my popcorn because I have to microwave it in the kitchen/break room. They…
  • This is my thinking also. People bring in yummy things all the time without any warning (meaning I've already planned my day and I don't want to change everything up to fit in a small portion of a calorie-dense treat). I have to sit here and smell that for a few hours while trying to avoid it. They can deal with the…
  • We have offices with enough space between them that eating at your desk won't really bother anyone. I have people that drift in for the popcorn when they smell it though... We also have a kitchen/break room, and I smell all kinds of things coming out of there (good or bad). I'm sort of with the mindset that it's my diet…
  • This happened to me shortly into my C25K program. I was really motivated and then hurt my knee somehow. The best thing for me was to just take a rest from running for a week until it felt 100% better. Once I started up again, I was very surprised that I was able to take off from where I had left without regressing any.
  • I agree with that! Seeing real pictures and real progress is very inspiring and motivational. I'm just glad not everyone here feels the need to remain anonymous as I do. :)
